We are pleased to present this 1990 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 finished in the stunning combination of Silver Metallic over a Burgundy partial leather interior.  Showcasing a 5-speed manual gearbox and a rare factory sunroof delete, this Japanese-market 1990 example is said to have been under the care of its previous owner, a certified Porsche mechanic, over the past several years who had carried out a complete engine rebuild as well as an overhaul of the suspension including brand new KW V3 coil-overs.  Currently showing approximately 91k miles on the odometer, this exceptional 964 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida accompanied by original tools and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

The Silver Metallic (S7) finish on this Carrera 4 is described to be in good original condition with only minor signs of road-going wear.  A ceramic coating has also been applied and detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with recent paint meter readings.  This example features Japanese-market lighting with clear side markers, early flag-style mirrors, an optional rear window wiper, and a sought-after factory sunroof delete.  Modifications include RS-style front splitters and replica Cup wheels dressed in new Michelin PS2 tires.

Inside, you will find a gorgeous Burgundy partial leather interior that remains in excellent shape.  An aftermarket MOMO Prototipo steering wheel has been installed and the original Burgundy steering wheel will also be included in the sale.  The original radio has been replaced with an updated aftermarket unit, and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional. CARFAX shows a potential mileage discrepancy which has been determined by the seller as the result of the odometer being changed from kilometers to miles in recent years since being imported to the U.S.

This Carrera 4 is equipped with an air-cooled RoW-spec 3.6 L flat-six engine that sends approximately 250 HP to all four wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox.  In recent years while under the care of its previous owner, this 964 was treated to a complete split-case engine rebuild along with the installation of a new clutch, new brakes, and an overhauled suspension consisting of KW V3 coil-overs, an Elephant Racing bump-steer kit, adjustable sway-bar end links, and a spring plate monoball kit.  The engine rebuild was reportedly carried out within the last 20k miles and this 964 is said to be in excellent mechanical order for its next owner.

This sale will include the original toolkit, spare tire, Burgundy steering wheel, KW suspension tools, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.  With its remarkable specifications and tasteful upgrades, this rare sunroof delete Coupe makes an ideal choice for any enthusiast in search of a 964.

Nice looking car. Sunroof delete makes me laugh. A sun/moon roof, as they were called, was an optional extra and a welcome addition in a 964. Delete suggests they came as standard and the OG buyer elected to not have it fitted. The trend now is not to have one because it's more "RSy". On a summer's day you'll wish you had one. I would not have my 964 any other way, more so for AC. The C4 does get some bad press but these are excellent cars. A good purchase.

I know this 964 and owner very well. This is a spectacular spec that looks even better in person. Owner is well versed and well seasoned on 911's. His attention to detail has proven over the years to always have his 911's better after his stewardship. Next owner will be very happy to have pulled the trigger. GLWS!

@VoltageGSR Hi, it’s still a C4 and the 4WD system is working very smooth and is fully maintained. For me there was no reason to change a perfect balanced system which you also find in the Porsche 959. AC works fine and blowing cold which you need daily in Miami weather. The Porsche shop was in touch with carfax and there is a way to correct the statements but my personally feeling is that it is better to explain why it is. It’s now clear visible when the odometer was changed from Kilometer to Miles which will be than out of the books. For me it’s better like it is. But of course it can be changed and they are pros and cons.

@bmdaia hi, got the update from the mechanic. He said that the case was machined/polished.

  • Mknam901 (seller) 3 years, 9 monthsago

@michaeln77 Hi, I do not have a driving video but if you have a chance to pass by in Miami you can see it driving in person. Happy to arrange it for you. Compared to another C4 which I sometimes use in Germany this one is much smoother and with less noise. About the Japanese report. I can not read Japanese but when I remember right they are from 2012 / 2013. Thanks

  • bmdaia (registered bidder) 3 years, 9 monthsago

Does the seller know if the case was machined for gasket prior to reassembly? Thanks

  • Silver930 (registered bidder) 3 years, 9 monthsago

@Mknam901 Thank you for the reply.

  • Mknam901 (seller) 3 years, 9 monthsago

@springer3 Thanks for your text. All the 964 spoilers will get that crack in that corner one day. It can be easily fixed (and on request we can cover that) but it will crack fast again. That’s why I let it like it is. But if someone want to have it fixed we can get that job done after the auction. Not a big deal. About the tray: I have a new Porsche 964 Engine Under Tray but as in the US the speed on the highway is very limited we did not installed it to get the engine better cooled. And yes, most 964 has it not installed.

  • springer3 (registered bidder) 3 years, 9 monthsago

I owned a 964 from 2002 to 2014. I regret selling it - it was the best car I ever owned. This one has a crack in the spoiler in exactly the same place. It was no problem and I ignored it.

Is the rear undertray available? Owners of early 911s removed the tray when they moved up to a 964. They claimed it was unnecessary weight and made the engine overheat. The undertray was and is part of the airflow management system, a science highly developed in the 964 design. I was booed on the online forum for saying this, but I always put the rear tray back as being necessary. Sorry I am not able to bid on this excellent example. GLWA.

  • Mknam901 (seller) 3 years, 9 monthsago

@Silver930 i am not aware of anything that was repainted. But it’s an old car. If something has ever been repainted, it is a long time ago.

  • amissair (registered bidder) 3 years, 9 monthsago

I know this car personally and drove it last week. The owner is meticulous about maintenance and spares no expense EVER. It’s exactly as advertised. A truly rare example in excellent shape. Euro spec, factory sunroof delete, rare color combo. These do not come along very often. Buyer will not be disappointed.

Could we see about a driving video/cold start or at least a walk around video

  • Mknam901 (seller) 3 years, 9 monthsago

@jh986s The engine is now totally dry without any leaks.
I have some paperwork from Japan and of course from the last years in Miami. Plus it still has some stickers which are common at Japanese cars.

  • jh986s (registered bidder) 3 years, 9 monthsago

So you are saying that the heads don't show any oil leaks, and they where never either replaced or groved for a gasket? Do you have all the service records from new?

  • Abuong01 (registered bidder) 3 years, 9 monthsago

@Mknam901 Appreciate the update. I had a C4 964 and was diligent with maintaining the all-wheel drive. Expensive fix if ignored.

  • Mknam901 (seller) 3 years, 9 monthsago

@Abuong01 The 4WD system is working very smooth and without any noise. Fluids have been changed around ca. 1 year ago. Additionally the whole car was just serviced incl. oil change with Redline oil. It’s really need nothing. Thanks

  • Abuong01 (registered bidder) 3 years, 9 monthsago

@mknam901. Can you tell us about the all wheel drive system. Are there records showing it has been maintained and when the last time it was checked and serviced.

  • Mknam901 (seller) 3 years, 9 monthsago

@jh986s When I bought the car I drove by the mechanic who overhauled the engine and who owned the car himself. I asked him why he overhauled the engine and his answer was to get it totally sorted and dry. During the rebuild everything was measured and compared to original specs. There was no direct issue with the engine. Afterwards he shared the pictures from the engine rebuild with me which you can see here in the gallery.

  • radonculous (registered bidder) 3 years, 9 monthsago

Spectacular spec and I've seen this beauty in person. Car is well sorted and the owner is gentleman. You won't be disappointed.

I know the owner of this car and the car itself quite well. Big fan of the color combo and RoW spec, but more important, knowing that comes from a experienced Porsche collector that takes tastefully care of all his cars meaning this is a really strong 964 unit. The amount of work (and $$$) put on maintenance and improvements on these units is impressive.
    GLWA!

  • jh986s (registered bidder) 3 years, 9 monthsago

during the rebuild did they address the heads? How did they solve the issues?

  • Mknam901 (seller) 3 years, 9 monthsago

I am here to answer any questions to the best of my ability.
I have owned this 964 for the past 3 years. The car belonged to a Porsche certified mechanic, who performed a split-case engine rebuild under his ownership. The car is originally an ROW imported from Japan.
It is well sorted and tremendous time and effort has been invested to find that perfect balance between performance, drivability, and reliability.
The car is a C4 that has received many suspension upgrades to achieve the feeling of a C2.
    Please bid with confidence.
