Introducing Porsche’s 964 generation, the Carrera 4 showcased 85% revamped components and a distinct architectural departure from its predecessor. It boasts coil spring suspension, power steering, ABD, and a 959-derived all-wheel-drive system. This 1990 example is finished in Stone Grey Metallic over burgundy upholstery and features a 5-speed manual transmission, heated seats, a rear window wiper, a sunroof, cruise control, and more. Showing just over 103k miles on the odometer, this 964 Carrera 4 Coupe is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California accompanied by a pre-purchase inspection (PPI).
The 964 introduced notable design elements, including aerodynamic polyurethane bumpers and an automatically extending rear spoiler. This example is finished in Stone Grey Metallic and rides on 16” 5-spoke wheels fitted with new tires. The seller notes that new OEM taillights were installed to replace the faded originals. Upon acquisition, minor dings were observed on the rear quarter, which has since been professionally repaired and refinished. Detailed images are available in the gallery, along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is upholstered in burgundy leather, complemented by a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Amenities include heated front seats, cruise control, a sunroof, a rear window wiper, and a CD player with an additional amplifier. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be in proper working order, though the seller notes that a code is required to unlock the stereo. Some signs of wear and fading are present, as expected with age.
Power comes from an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine, producing 247 HP and 228 lb.-ft of torque, sent to all four wheels via a G50 5-speed manual transmission. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 5.6 seconds, with a top speed of 162 mph. The Carrera 4 introduced trailing arms for the rear suspension, Porsche's innovative "Weissach" rear axle, and switchable axle locking, providing a 50:50 front/rear torque split for improved traction and stability. The engine was reportedly removed for the installation of a new OEM clutch, during which the plugs, belts, and air conditioning system were serviced, and a new battery and alternator were installed. A pre-purchase inspection (PPI) report is included in the gallery.
The seller would like you to know: “We hope this car finds its way to a new owner who will be able to enjoy it to its fullest potential! We acquired this car 8 years ago. Since then, it has been stored in our home garage. It is a very clean example of a 964 Coupe. Its sitting on a brand-new set of performance tires and ready to drive to your local "Cars and Coffee" or take for a drive through the mountains. And don't worry if it rains, you will have all wheel drive to pull you through the turns! Good luck bidding!!”

@bartdn1 No, a couple are because the parking brake is on, they all go out.
In the cold start video, it looked like several lights on the dash - are any of those related to sensors that will need to be cleaned or maintenance that will need to be handled in the near future?

The engine serial number is stamped on the block by the right side of the fan housing around the 4:00 -4:30 position (vertical stamping). For manual trans cars, serial numbers starting 62M06836 (engine type M64.01) received factory installed head gaskets. I believe this was around late Nov 1990 production...
I had a 1990 964 C4. Sold in feb 2021. Wish I kept her, had for 15 years and absolutely 100 % reliable . Only changed out a starter that was okay but not perfect. Good luck to new owner of this model .
Good Morning all! Just added a Cold Start Video to the ad. Let me know if you have any questions about the car, I will try to answer ASAP.
@SM6666 thanks again for the quick reply. That gives me the engine type, but not the engine serial number. So still unable to determine if the engine was produced with head gaskets from the factory.
@SpartyRob84 I do see that the sticker under the hood says Motor: M6401-62L. Does that help?
@SpartyRob84 Hi, I just got to work and won't be able to get home before the end of the auction. Sorry...

@SM6666 - thanks for the quick reply. my understanding is that the 3.6L engine serial numbers after 62M06836 DO have head gaskets. Can you check on the engine serial number for your car?
@SpartyRob84 good morning, sorry I don’t know how to tell. Wish I could be more help.
Early 964 motors did not have a head gasket resulting in oil leaks, but Porsche identified this issue and began building with head gaskets after the first couple years of production. Can you confirm if this 3.6 flat six has head gaskets or not?

Beautiful example of a well-maintained 911
@Zeus993 Hi. Thanks for your interest! Yes, when the motor was out any leaks were addressed. There are no leaks. Stock suspension. We purchase the car ~ 8 years ago in a probate sale and were not given any records. Hope that helps. Sorry for short answers. I am responding via cell phone. Lol
@SM6666 Hi there. I'm interested and have some questions:
1. With the engine out for the clutch, was it re-sealed?
2. Oil leak - small? large?
3. Any suspension work done?
4. Is there a maintenace / service log / file I can review?
Trying to get a clear picture of what's a head post-purchase.
Thanks,
JP

Hello Everyone! Thanks for your interest in our car. I would like to mention that if you visit the lemonsquad link in the comment below, there are many more pictures and videos of the car.
I wanted to mention that we had a new alternator installed recently.
Also, I will provide the code to unlock the stereo. Since we store the car with the battery disconnected, It looses the security code...
Feel free to ask any questions. I will do my best to answer ASAP
