Now up for auction is this 1990 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Coupe finished in Black over a Cashmere Beige and Black partial leather interior. One of the most significant evolutions for the Porsche 911, the 964 generation debuted a new twin-plug 3.6L engine, revised suspension, improved aerodynamics, and was the first Porsche 911 to offer power steering and anti-lock brakes (ABS). This 1990 example features a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox driving the rear wheels and was factory equipped with an optional limited-slip differential. It was acquired by the current owner about three years ago and subsequently brought to the specialists at SCarGo of San Rafael, California, for a major overhaul including new tires, brakes, suspension, a new clutch, air-conditioning service, and a full custom sound system. Driven approximately 1k miles since, this Carrera 2 is now being offered for auction by its owner out of California.
This 964 was ordered in Black (L700) and has been equipped with updated Aero mirrors and modern vintage-style LED headlight assemblies from John Audette. The seller notes one small chip on the hood which has been previously touched up, and some other cosmetic imperfections are depicted in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. This Carrera 2 rides on updated 993-style 17” Cup 2 wheels fitted with colored Porsche crest center caps. The Michelin Pilot Sport tires were mounted within the last 1k miles.
The Cashmere Beige and Black partial leather interior (LC) has been fitted with a carbon fiber Momo Prototipo steering wheel and a new custom sound system including an Alpine Bluetooth head unit and dual subwoofers mounted behind the front seats. The air-conditioning system was serviced by SCarGo in 2020 and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to remain fully functional. The handbrake lever is slightly bent to the left and some tears are noted in the headliner. There are also signs of wear present on the driver's seat including a tear on the lower cushion. The factory specifications label on the underside of the hood shows the following equipment codes:
As much as 247 HP is sent to the rear wheels from an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox and an optional limited-slip differential. The major service by SCarGo in 2020 is said to have included a new clutch as well as an overhaul of the brakes and suspension.
This sale will include a clean title, the original steering wheel, rear seatbacks, some assorted spare parts, and uninstalled upgrades. The 964 is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after air-cooled Porsches on the market, do not miss your chance to own this 5-speed 1990 Carrera 2.

@andrewn The only body work I've done is replace the flag mirrors with aero mirrors. The aero mirror was added to the car in 1991, and this is a 1990. I think a previous owner also sprayed the rear deck lid. No check strap issue that I know of, and no other body work that I know of.
It depends how obsessive you are of course, if I were keeping this car, I'd do a singer-style shifter (which I already bought, and is included with the car, but not installed), I'd replace the rear reflector which is cracked (replacement is already bought, included, but not installed) and I'd probably have the roof liner replaced. As you know you can really go as deep as you want with this stuff. The sound system is great and the car runs really well.
Is the exhaust factory?
Hello. Can you tell me about previous body work? Accident history? Paint work? Rust? Do the 964 cars have the same check strap problems seen in 993s? If so how are they on this car. If you kept the car what are your next projects..ie what would you do to continue making it “your car”
@PCARMARKET_MODERATOR A batch of my invoices from SCarGo. Still waiting on them to send compression test info
Additional content has been added to the listing gallery.
Waiting on those compression numbers. If possible. Thanks
@kyolml Yes its California smogged and will make sure that's current for buyer. SCarGo told me they had actually seen this car before, and that they did a top-end rebuild of this engine in the last ~60k miles or so, but couldn't remember exactly when. Wish I had more records on that one. I can tell you the car doesn't leak and the motor is strong. Waiting on their email on compression
Any idea any major rebuild has been done to the engine (top end like valve guide, etc?) or never been opened?
Will you pass smog for buyer in California? Smog check history been clean and pass easily so no issue?
@va911 Waiting on SCarGo. Just called them and they're going to email me hopefully in the next few minutes.
Re: comment from seller on compression numbers being available - can you share the results ?

@Castertroy Ok, since you are determined to argue and make yourself look like a fool in the process, here we go. There were two recent black C2 sales on BAT. One car was black/black, the other was black/tan. Which would the majority say is the "near exact spec" to this car?
@Castertroy @fatcam I can email SCarGo records over to you, I don't have a direct way to post them here, it all goes through PCARMARKET
@fatcam no we aren't thinking of different cars, lol. You looked up the wrong car and made a little comment. Yikes. Cheers and GLWS!
@Castertroy we are thinking of different cars. Regardless, entirely irrelevant. If you think this example is a $125k+ car, more power to you.
@fatcam oops, 6k miles more. That one had 136k, and sold for 125k. Thought the seller said it wasn't a known track car. This should be wayyy higher.
Is it possible to upload copies of the invoices from SCarGo?
@Castertroy comparing an ex-track car with 3x the mileage to the BAT example is daft at best.
Near exact spec sold on BAT few weeks back for $125k. Curious where this will end up.
Helpfulfox (seller)- Thank you for the quick response. GLWA
@fatcam Hey there. Yes the service history is available from SCarGo. No service history beyond mine. One set of keys, no books unfortunately. Elephant racing shocks and struts brand new.
This was going to be a forever car for me, so I basically spent whatever it took to get it in beautiful operating condition. Then I had a kid! And its really not a safe enough car to drive her around in. So whoever buys it should know I put a lot of love and $ into the car, and know I wont get it all back. The things we do for our kids, right?
@Archer1 Rear reflector is stock, but cracked. I bought a new OEM one, but haven't installed it yet. Its included with the sale.
@ Helpfulfox (seller) - There are no pictures of the rear reflector in the gallery, is this an aftermarket unit?
And can you please specify exactly what suspension components have been updated / replaced during your ownership? Thank you.
@Helpfulfox do you have any copies of invoices from the work SCarGo completed on the vehicle?
Does the car come with any additional service history / service invoices?
Does the car come with original books? 2 sets of keys?
@Helpfulfox Michelin tires, elephant racing suspension, OEM clutch and flywheel
@Pcajiri confirmed no leaks
@fatcam I don’t know the full history, the owner I bought it from did not track it. I believe it did see track time at one point in its life since I replaced the the lightweight flywheel with a standard one. My original intention was to own this car as a daily driver, so I spent quite a bit bringing it back to original condition. Brand new clutch, flywheel, suspension, tires, etc. the car is in great shape.
No mention of the car's previous life as a track car?
@Helpfulfox so no oil leaks
Bid in the amount of $45,000
@Pcajiri I can confirm it’s clean. Unfortunately no lift where it’s being stored.
Bid in the amount of $38,040
@Helpfulfox any pics of engine bottom
@Pcajiri Lights all working normally except airbag bc of the Momo Carbon Fiber steering wheel. I have the OEM steering wheel w/ airbag and its included for the buyer if you want to go back.
What lights are on in the instrument cluster now obviously airbag what about ABS is that functioning
@Helpfulfox Videos posted. Not a cold start unfortunately, but you can see driving/hear the motor. I can confirm the car starts up beautifully, no issues with cold start.
@Lesperance Yes, I had the photographer do that, let me see if pcar market can help me post
@rjohnstonstl I believe they did. I’ll email Dee over there and see if they have the results for you.
Looks like it's in perfect condition to drive, enjoy and not worry too much about rock chips and such. Did SCarGo by chance do a compression test during the major service?
Seller can we have a cold start video?
Ah, so nice. Though not that hard to replace the shifter cover to clean things up a little.
My favorite interior colors - tan and black, great look. I had a '92 amazon green targa with same interior colors - sold it with over 150k miles on the engine and still going strong, and just a few drips about 4 years ago. Great engines and car overall. The music side is done, now new owner just has to clean up the cabin a little and enjoy. Can't go wrong.
