Finished in rare Dark Blue paint over a Cashmere Beige interior, this 1990 Porsche 964 is one of only 158 Targa variants produced for the U.S. during the model year, and even fewer that were configured as Carrera 2 models with a 5-speed manual transaxle. The car was purchased by the seller in 2024 and benefits from an engine reseal within the last 2k miles along with an upgraded Sachs clutch, RS single-mass flywheel, and an engine performance chip. Accompanied by over 20 years’ worth of service and ownership records, this 964 Carrera 2 Targa is now being offered for auction out of Texas with less than 50k miles showing on the odometer.

This Carrera 2 is finished in Dark Blue (347), a rarely seen non-metallic color that was offered on the 964 model for the 1990 model year only. Equipment includes a removable black roof panel, a black Targa bar, integrated fog lights, heated power mirrors, a heated rear window, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and 17” Cup wheels dressed in new Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The original 16” Design 90 wheels are included in the sale. The seller indicates the paint is in excellent original condition, and a two-stage paint correction was completed in June 2025. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Cashmere Beige and Black partial leather interior features optional heated and power-adjustable front seats, a four-spoke leather steering wheel, power windows and door locks, automatic climate control, cruise control, black carpet floor mats, and an Alpine head unit. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

Factory-rated at 247 HP, the air-cooled 3.6-liter M64 flat-six engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller indicates an engine reseal was completed within the last 2k miles, and the car has been modified with an RS single-mass flywheel, a Sachs Race Engineering clutch, and an Eprom engine performance chip. Service records are provided for reference in the gallery.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a tire inflator, a car cover, the original 16” Design 90 wheels, service records, genuine touch-up paint, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know:The 964 Targa Carrera 2 is the rarest (non-RS) variant of the least produced 911 generation. What makes this car particularly unique is that Dunkelblau (Dark Blue) was a paint color carried over from the 1980s G-body 911s, and it was only offered on the 964 for one year. This example still wears its original factory paint after 35 years. The striking appearance of the non-metallic Dark Blue paint over a Black/Cashmere interior makes it one of the most elegant-looking configurations in the Porsche catalogue. Twenty-plus years of service history, along with its low mileage, originality, and rare spec, make this example truly special and the one to own. The car has been fully serviced from top to bottom, including a two-stage paint correction, in preparation for sale. She is ready for her next owner. Happy bidding!"

Beautiful car. Can’t believe I missed it when it was for sale at Lux.
As far as stance, OEM stuff is Nader high.
If you don’t want to break the bank on fully adjustable suspension I recommend the Koni Actives and HR Lowering Springs. To get it low enough you’ll have to bottom out the adjustment and remove the lower locking collar on the Konis (there are 2 collars). Since this car is a 90 it has different rear suspension mounts from later cars. Check with someone like Rose Passion for the adapters you will need for the rears. Or you can get Billsteins and join everyone who can find 3 shocks from them and perpetual backlog on one of the fronts….maddening and they should be ashamed for the frustrations they cause their resellers and customers for not having inventory available most of the time. Also I have two 964 Targas one with Bilstein and one with the Konis. The Konis are better.
Seller, I would recommend some undercarriage photos….especially under front trunk.
Super rare car in a super rare and beautiful color. The 964 Targa is such a nice car I bought two because one is none and two is one.

@tspeedster My cost was $6750 (with auction premium and shipping). You can see photos here: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/seats-48/

@spring2010 I asked my mechanic about that right after we swapped out the OEM 16" Design 90 wheels for the 17" Cup 1's and he said it was the proper stance and ride height. He's been at it for 50 years, so I took his word for it, but if you wanted to modify the springs or suspension you could dial in the stance exactly to your preference.

@rennsport_classics can you share the cost of the additional sport seats? Thanks

Beautiful targa, great spec! Car seems to be riding high at the front. Any feedback on that? Thank you

@WcLp1911 No issues with the syncros. The car drives and shifts smoothly, like in the driving video. It is currently cloudy and raining here today, so I will try to get a few shots in the sun tomorrow or Sunday.

PS how about some full on sun pics that reveal the true glory of this paint?
    Thanks again.

    Any issues with the syncros?

@AntiFragile Yes, please see image 200 in the photo gallery. The gaskets were also addressed. I was not owner of the car at the time so I don't want to speculate, but the nature of air cooled cars is sometimes they leak. Thankfully, this was fully addressed at 47k miles and the car has no leaks now. It can be enjoyed by the next owner without reservations in that regard.

  • AntiFragile (registered bidder) 1 day, 10 hoursago

I believe the earlier 964s had valve problems (guides from my recollection). Were these addressed during the engine rebuild. And why did the engine need to be rebuilt with such low miles?

  • Rennsport_Classics (seller) 1 day, 11 hoursago

@WcLp1911 No leaks whatsoever. The engine was overhauled and resealed approximately 2,000 miles ago (receipt in photo gallery). The Targa top seal was redone under prior ownership (receipt in the photo gallery), so there are no leaks but there will be some wind noise at higher speeds as can be expected in an air cooled Targa. A video of the temperature reading when the AC is blowing cold will be posted later today.

@jlhoyt The previous owner was an Austrian living in the USA working for the Red Bull F1 team. After he was laid off, he bought the car from LuxSport in NY (bill of sale in the Service Documents) in January of 2018 and took it back with him to Austria. However, his next job took him to Dubai so he never really had an opportunity to drive the car much and decided to put it up for sale. I purchased the car from him in Austria and brought it back home to America.

@SWexoticbuyers Paint meter readings will be posted later today.

  • WcLp1911 1 day, 11 hoursago

    Hey,
Any current leaks? Does the AC blow cold and could you provide a pic of a temperature reading? How is the Targa top seal? Any noise or leaks with the top?
    Thanks.

@Rennsport_Classics First off, great example of a 964 Targa and even better color combo. I do have a question regarding past history. I'm seeing a few international shipping and customs documents. Do you know the history of where this Targa has been?
