We are pleased to offer this 1990 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Coupe finished in Polar Silver Metallic over a black interior. Having enjoyed a successful career in the PCA Club Racing circuit during the early 2000s, this 964 has more recently been converted for street use and treated a complete engine rebuild, glass-out respray, and full RS-style interior with replica Recaro bucket seats and Maritime Blue accents. It features a lightweight clutch and flywheel, a Porsche Motorsport limited-slip differential, and Maxilite Cup-style wheels. A faithful recreation of one of Porsche's most celebrated RS models, this 964 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.
This Carrera is finished in Polar Silver Metallic and was treated to a full glass-out respray in 2020 along with the installation of all-new body seals. Following the conclusion of its racing career in 2019, this 964 was fitted with windshield wipers and standard glass windows. Additions include a replica Euro RS front bumper with splitters, clear fog light inserts, updated aero mirrors, and new OEM brake lights, turn signals, and rear reflector band. The car rides on a set of 17” Maxilite Cup-style wheels with RS-logo center caps and BF Goodrich g-Force tires dated from 2019. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been completely redone with RS lightweight carpeting, RS-style door panels, and FVD Brombacher RS-style bucket seats. New Maritime Blue seatbelts have been fitted to match the seat centers along with a new leather center console accented by Maritime Blue stitching. Other details include a reupholstered leather steering wheel with RS replica horn cover, an RS center console delete, a custom aluminum shifter, rear seat delete, and a Rennline lower dash cover with radio and airbag delete plates. The sunroof is currently inoperable, and the A/C and radio have been eliminated.
The air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine was completely rebuilt by Daniel Jacobs of Connecticut in 2017. The 5-speed G50 manual transmission was also rebuilt by Daniel Jacobs in 2010. A carbon fiber heater duct has been added to the engine and the transmission has been paired with a Porsche Motorsports limited-slip differential as well as a lightweight RS clutch and flywheel. @JAMN930 Forgot to mention that the speakers are no longer in the vehicle.
@JAMN930 Yes it is the original motor to the car. The wiring plus is there for the radio. To be honest, this car sounds so great, not sure I would want to hear anything else!
Matching numbers? Is the wiring for the stereo and speakers still there? Thanks
@joebatters It is a private sale. So you pay the owner directly.
Since this is a consignment sale will it go through as a private sale? Tax benefit to private sale from where I'm from.
@ncmoto Oil gauge is a little twitchy. Dan Jacobs checked the oil at its last service and the level was fine. It may need a new sensor. The rubbing was mainly cause by poor roads. In the video you see the detour signs as they were paving the roads. Rubbing may happen occasionally and spacers will correct that.
n the driving video the oil fill gauge is pinned on full. Is the gauge broken? Otherwise, that would indicate it is overfill.
Also I noticed rubbing noises when the car made a fill lock turn. What is causing that?
thanks

@joebatters The motor was completely rebuilt. Head gaskets were definitely done!
@joebatters The engine was first rebuilt in the early 2000s after I put it in 1st upshifting from redline in 2nd at start of the Glen sprint race. Ouch. Head gaskets were machined then. Dan did the work when he was really working out of a Hairy Dog Garage.
@MCMMatt February of 1990?
If so, I wonder why they didn't upgrade to head gaskets when the rebuilt the motor.
As I understand it, they would need to be machined into the heads and new pistons and cylinders would be required.
Maybe I missed that on the supplied invoice.
@TeutonicOZ You are absolutely correct about the color. I made a mistake! This 964 was repainted in its original color of Silver Metallic "NOT" Polar Silver. I do have receipts of the paint work to prove it. Thank you for the correction!
Bid in the amount of $57,999
Hi, is it possible to see some pictures of what it looked like before the restoration and putting back onto the street?
Bid in the amount of $57,500
@MCMMatt Thanks… impossible to forget some of the epic battles this car was in during the early days of PCA club racing. And new buyer needs to understand this is a car that was raced hard back in the day with all that implies. No virgin here…
Was it really resprayed Polar Silver? Original color was Silver Metallic (980). Not Polar. That would be a shame.
Many original parts for that car are still in my basement. Crazy.
@fatcam The rest of the suspension is OEM Porsche. There was only one test day with the newly rebuilt motor and the rest of the miles, 200 or so were, were put on by the current owner just driving it around and taking it to cars & coffee events. So there is less than, 1,000 miles on the rebuild.
@Rstrahota Oliver Zitzman, Drew Brown and Roger Funk
Bid in the amount of $56,964
@MCMMatt what about the rest of the suspension? And how many miles on the engine since the 2017 rebuild? Not seeing a mileage stamp on the corresponding invoice.
Who were the drivers of the car according to the PCA logbook? Info will help my feeble mind remember the car…
@fatcam Its a Bilstien b16 adjustable Coilover suspension.
Any info on suspension?
@ncmoto The mileage is correct. The Porsche for the longest time was strictly used as a track car. Between converting the car for street use/Paint/Interior, the current owner was not able to drive it as much as he'd like too.
Hello, I have a question regarding mileage. Do you believe it is correct? One of the invoices back in 2010 says the car had 143,284 miles. In the last 12 years the car only accumulated an additional 5000 miles? Thank you NCMOTO

@FelixG Sorry, we do not have the plexiglass windshield. The engine does have stock power, specific for its race class. The owner just wanted an awesome lightweight fast car for the street to have fun with.
@JAMN930 There are no reports of any accidents. To my knowledge, it was never in a wreck on or off the track. There is no rust on this car. Definitely garage kept its entire life.
Has the car ever been crashed or had any accidents? Any signs of rust? Thanks
Does anyone have any insight on how much to get the AC working?
Do you still have the race plexiglass?
Is the engine stock power?
What was the motivation to convert it back to street specs after such extensive racing?

@knurbflockle Great point - I'd probably do the same, badge it a Carrera 2, fix the inoperable stuff, add in the comfort things and enjoy!! Its cool to see C2/4's with RS equipment and tasteful upgrades. Another things I've been considering is the aux fan bypass, but after reading about heating issues and foggy windows, decided to keep the fan in the engine bay, but that bypass pipe looks fantastic and saves some weight. Fun discussion!
@utopify thanks… and yeah I think I would remove the RS badging. It can be as close as anyone wants to make it to a real RS, but not that. I wonder it it was ever seam-welded.
@knurbflockle having worked on several cars over the years - but am by no means a Porsche expert, you'll need to ask yourself "if I had this car, I would...." And just start filling in the blank. Unless you live in Alaska - or are going to track this car again, you'll want A/C. Even in October in New York, my 964's interior gets uncomfortable w/o A/C. After you make that list, price the parts/labor to make it your own. This is an awesome car, and I am a 964 believer - THE best 911 in my opinion. With a fresh power plant, paint, etc it is ready to be enjoyed as a solid driver and "cars and coffee" ride. I'd add A/C back in, fix some tid bits to make it my own, be honest with folks its an RS clone and enjoy the heck out of it. Beautiful paint from what the pictures show and as always, fantastic to see 964's on the block. Good luck @seller!
@td_05 Not really sure. The motor and wiring are there but just not hooked up.
What needs to be done to get the sunroof working again?
@joebatters I believe the entire AC system was removed. Its a February build date.
Bid in the amount of $48,000
Bid in the amount of $46,911
Also, I see that there is no ac compressor. Were the ac lines, evaporator and condenser removed too?
Bid in the amount of $45,911
What is the build date? Trying to figure out if this car had the head gaskets from the factory or not.
Thanks
Be still, my heart. Looks gorgeous to my uneducated eye. Here to see if the Porsche experts approve— I have not owned one yet.
