BMW’s original M3, based on the E30 3-Series, was created as a homologation car for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) in 1986 featuring distinctive aerodynamic bodywork and a high-revving S14 DOHC inline-four engine. The ultimate version of the M3 was introduced in 1990 as the Sport Evolution (Evo 3), a lighter and more powerful model with a limited production run of 600 units in total. This example was first registered at the Autodepping dealer in Detmold, Germany, on May 23, 1990, before moving to Madrid, Spain, where it remained with the same owner until 2018. The car changed hands with a dealer before it was purchased by the current owner in 2020. Accompanied by an ASI Gold Plate certificate and documentation confirming matching drivetrain numbers, this rare M3 Sport Evolution is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Italy.
Sharing only its bonnet and roof panel with the standard 3-Series, the E30 M3 is characterized by its boxed fender flares, side skirts, front air dam, and rear spoiler mounted atop a lightweight composite trunk lid. The Sport Evolution model is further distinguished by its front brake ducts, revised grille slats, and adjustable front and rear spoilers. This example is said to be one of only 204 to have been factory-finished in Brilliant Red (Brilliantrot, 308) and comes equipped with an optional electric sunroof. The seller notes it was treated to a respray roughly 5-6 years ago. Other features include body-colored mirrors, front brake ducts, quad headlamps, twin exhaust outlets, a roof-mounted antenna, an M3 grille badge, and factory 16” basketweave wheels.
Inside, this E30 features a pair of black leather Recaro bucket seats with a matching dashboard and door panels. Accessories include a three-spoke M-Tech II steering wheel, red seatbelts, M3-branded door sills, an M Sport shift knob, an M-specific instrument cluster, power windows, air conditioning, a sound system, a BMW Bavaria C Business stereo, and a Sport Evolution badge mounted on the center console. The seller notes the A/C compressor is currently non-functional.
The most powerful E30 M3, the Sport Evolution features a 2.5-liter S14B25 inline-four engine with dual overhead camshafts and an output of up to 238 HP and 177 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a close-ratio Getrag G265 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. This example also features an optional adjustable suspension.
This sale will include a collection of documentation and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: "The car was imported from Spain by the owner after 30/07/2020 and he kept well cared for and detailed to be used for shows and Sunday driving. Genuine reason, collection downsizing due to age. Free shipping to New York is included, for other ports the buyer pays the difference!"

@BrianSpilner out of curiosity I checked and This is not the same car in your comment. The VIN Number is different, I would double check before making a comment like that..

@delanodp That light reflection is typical on these cars due to the wide fender angles. It’s there to the greater degree on silver and red. You cannot judge that from a photo.
Stunning example, great color. Deserves to go to a new collection.
As mentioned , paintwork is thick and textured ....
Man, E30 Evo's are amazing. What a color. Good luck to the seller!
Pic #70 definitely not factory paint. Pretty sloppy work. :-|
Ok, we have never claimed original paint. It's the original color that has been repainted outside, although some parts are still original paint like underside.
I have never seen a E30 chassis car, 318, 325, M3 that did not have that gap filled, unless front end bodywork was done. Owners can claim original paint, but without documentation to support that claim, it’s just a claim and not substantive proof. BMW is a very detail oriented company (I should know I work for them). They wouldn’t construct 10’s of thousands of E30 chassis with that gap unfilled and looking very unfinished, only to skip the process on a handful of cars.
Front end bodywork has been apart on this. See pic#66. Below the headlight where the upper bumper panel meets the fender there is a noticeable gap. When new, the factory filled this gap with a filler material and painted over it (almost looks like a painted over weld). This car is missing that, so it has been apart. Most body shops miss this small detail but it is a telltale sign the front end has been apart.
@Spazaz88 Cars from the rest of the world do not have VIN tags on every panel like North American cars.
@Spazaz88 - Vin plate is photo number 147, which is fully readabile, if you need anything else just let us know so we will provide. Thank you!
Aha had him in the first half. @seller one of the (many) things that sunk the other auction (for the car with very similar last 4 of vin but not exact) was lack of VIN plate pictures. I have gone through pictures twice now and count one VIN plate picture. Is it possible to upload the rest? Thank you
Should've been posted on BaT again. Being in Italy doesn't help either; the market is in the USA.

Hello Seller, I know this car. You’re not being transparent on this car’s history. This car had more than a respray 5 to 6 years ago. It is ok to tell us it has been in a ROC (Roll over Crash). I also know it was repaired nicely. You should have taken the 125k€ on Catawiki 2weeks ago. Not passing judgement on the car, but for sure passing judgement on you for not informing the auction houses or the general bidding public the car’s history. GLWTA
