Equipped with the Turbo S engine from the previous model year, the 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo has become a highly desirable front-engine Porsche. Finished in Black over a matching interior, this example features power-adjustable Sport Seats, Sport shock absorbers, front & rear stabilizer bars, a sunroof, cruise control, a rear window wiper, and a leather-covered Sport steering wheel, shifter, & boot. Acquired by the seller and second owner on March 25, 1994, from Ray Catena Porsche in New Jersey, the car was moved to North Carolina in 1995 and relocated to New Mexico in 2018. Consistently garage-stored and covered, this two-owner 944 Turbo is now being offered for auction with under 51k miles showing on the odometer.
This 944 is finished in Black and can be distinguished as a Turbo model by its more rounded aerodynamic nose and body-colored diffuser below the rear bumper. Other details include integrated front fog lights, pop-up headlamps, body-colored side moldings, an optional electric tilt sunroof, a rear window wiper, and a black polyurethane spoiler at the base of the rear hatch. It rides on factory 16” Club Sport alloy wheels dressed in Yokohama tires mounted less than 5k miles ago. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is trimmed in Black partial leather upholstery and features matching carpet floor mats with silver embroidered Turbo logos along with power-adjustable Sport Seats. Accessories include a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, a leather shift boot and lever, air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, cruise control, a digital clock, a locking glovebox, a 10-speaker sound system, a central locking system, and an alarm system.
Offering the same specifications as the previous model year’s Turbo S, this 1989 Turbo is equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine rated at 250 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven via a 5-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip differential providing for a 0-60 time of approximately 5.5 seconds and a factory-rated top speed of 162 MPH. The seller states the air conditioning system was replaced with a modern R124 system by Triangle Imports in North Carolina. Additionally, the alternator was replaced in 2019. The seller confirms there are no outstanding maintenance items, and the CARFAX report shows a total of 16 service history entries.
This sale will include a clean title, a toolkit, a car cover, a jack, a spare tire, and a 12V tire inflator.

@nsxcar Congratulations, you will be very pleased with the car when you see and drive it for the first time.
Yeah, definitely needs some work, at least $5k for front seal, timing belt, and water pump. But should be a fun project.
Sold for $28,250
Nice car. Just had too many outstanding deferred maintenance items to justify any more $$ for me. It's an $8-$10k project to get the car into the big leagues.

@tff I had no issues with alignment if you look at the dates they refer to 6/29/09 which I recall I purchased tires. As for the 3/11/22 I have never been to Brownsville Texas, the car has not been out of NM since I trailered it here in June 2019 from North Carolina I have never had any issues with alignment, other than having it checked when replacing tires. Thank you again for showing an interest in my 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo.
@seller... Are there any open issues with the alignment? Does the car steer and track straight? Noticed two alignments were performed within 600 miles back at 44k miles (per the carfax) and then an alignment check in March 2022.
@tff I stand corrected there is delamination at the top of the glass. I took a picture of the rear hatch this morning, Picture posted.

Bid in the amount of $12,000
@tff I see no delamination of glass from frame. It is 8pm in NM now, I will take better pictures tomorrow.
Scratch that. Won't need a date stamp. Looking at the photos, the tires are Yokohama AVS ES100's which Yokohama hasn't made in almost 15 years.
Is there any way to get date stamps on the tires? According to the Carfax, 5k miles ago was 2011.
@seller... can you post a picture of the hatch glass - frame seal condition at the top (front edge) of the hatch? Is there any delamination of the class from the frame? (Thanks for your responsiveness to such requests).
@nsxcar Photo loaded. restarted car it sounds normal. Thank you for visiting my auction.

Video posted. Thank you. Sounds like you may have an exhaust leak, usually from a broken exhaust manifold stud or cracked manifold. Can you take pictures of the studs?
@nsxcar I took the video but it may be too big to load by me. I sent a text with my video to PCARMARKET to see if they can load it. will get back to you.
Would it be possible to get a cold start video? And a video of the engine bay with the engine running?
Bid in the amount of $11,000
@seller... thanks for that options code sticker photo. Here are the options that your car has (no sport seats):
030 - sport suspension
220 - locking differential (40%)
454 - cruise control
490 - sound system
494 - additional amplifier
533 - alarm
573 - AC
593 - ABS
650 - sunroof
946 - leather surface front seats

@tff Found it, sent it in to PCARMARKET to be posted on auction site. Let me know how to interpret the photo
Slide 54 is the photo of the rear hatch area looking rearward. In the upper right hand corner of that photo you see a white sticker with the vin and a bunch of other numbers and codes. This is the options sticker for your car. Please take a closeup photo of that and publish.
@maj75 I counted down 54 pictures which is the "engine". There are no "Factory Option Labels" anywhere in or on this car, what I typed was from my own research. I do not know what you are referring to "Any separation between the hatch class and the upper metal trim?"
@Poormans_944 This car has always been exceptionably maintained. The next manufacturer recommended service will come at 60,000 miles which the new owner will handle when the time comes.
Thank you for visiting my auction, I wish you success in finding your perfect dream car.
@tff The option list is a typed copy I made from the 944 Options available when ordering a new vehicle, since I purchased this as the second owner I listed the options I believed I had, The seats were identified as "Sport Seats Left, right, with electric height adjustment". My seats are with electric height adjustments,
Photo 54, upper right of picture is the factory options label. Could you take a clear picture of the label?
Any separation between the hatch class and the upper metal trim?
Seller, in your comments you mention all service and maintenance were always done ahead of schedule. I can’t help but notice that the last timing belt and water pump service was 15 years ago - this service should be done every 5 years regardless of millage.
The tires are 16 years old these won’t pass an inspection where I live - tires older than 8 years will fail an inspection.
- Has this car ever received a new clutch kit or is the clutch original?
- Have the engine mounts been replaced on this car?
- Have the M030 Struts and shocks been replaced or serviced?
This car looks really nice I’m sure mechanically all systems function as they should but from what I’m reading this car will be needing some major catch up on service to make it a safe driver. .
Is the list on slide 61 options that are on this car or available options for a 1989 944 turbo? Again, wondering why these aren’t sport seats.
A photo of the options sticker normally located on the inside of the hatch area, in the back side, would help.
@jpnorthwood *These are the seats that came in the 1989 TURBO.
@tff *Do not have access to paint paint thickness measurement.
*It is a Painted plastic part the paint on this 4 inch piece can be repainted
*In 2008 I had 41,465miles now 50,848 approximately 9,383 miles on tires
*I was led to believe these are the sport seats that came as standard equipment on 1989 TURBO.
*At 44,283mi at Triangle Imports in Raleigh NC the following service was completed on 6/25/09 - Timing belt, Water pump, Spark plugs, all fluids replaced, oil changes every 3,000 miles. Alternator was replace on 5/1/19 at Triangle Imports.
Understandably, a lot of interest and questions on this car. Here are some more questions...
-Any chance you could get some paint thickness measurements?
-Saw the comment on buffer damage but to me slide 25 side trim looks to be ‘bubbling’ some paint. Not uncommon on 944s. Repaint of the side trim is quite ‘easy’ as this paint can be peeled off quite easily after bubbling starts.
-Tire date code on slide 33 appears to be 2007. Please confirm.
-Do you know what happened to the sport seats, that are shown as the options list?
-One can debate what maintenance is actually ‘required’, but at least the following 'should' be done due to age: timing belt, water pump, brake fluid, engine oil, coolant, spark plugs, gear oil...
Thanks.
Shame the sport seats are MIA… This option would be the icing on great looking black/black color combo. Know what happened to them?
@nsxcar * Last week when I had the car detailed I was planning on keeping the car. I have always stayed ahead of any maintenance requirements. This past week I decided to place it with PCARMARKET Auction, there were no maintenance requirements at all.
* I have walked around the whole car again and I see no issues. Whoever purchases this car will be very proud in owning this fine car.
Thanks for the clarification. I am sure the winning bidder will have no problem making some repairs and they are factoring in maintenance that would be needed for their own confidence in driving a vintage car.
With that said can you do another look around the car for any other paint issues or buffer damage? I think we all just want to know exactly what we are getting into as most of us are too far away to do an inspection.
Thanks!
@nsxcar *That is the original paint on the side molding which I believe is a plastic. The paint on that section appears to have been damaged from a buffer. If this defect is affecting a successful bid I will have it replaced.
For picture #25, I was not referring to the stone guard film, but the side molding above it. That piece look significantly different in the phot from the molding on the door in the same photo.
@nsxcar * There is no deterioration of the clear coat. The car was detailed a few days before I took the photos, the photos show are reflections of surrounding area.
*Photo 9 is a reflection.
*Photo 25 passenger side fender is a stone guard (original), photo 26 Driver side guard. There are similar thin guards along the top of the wheel wells.
*There has been no paint work done and no defects other than normal stone chips.
First, thank you for your previous answers and being forthcoming. With that said, I have a few more questions.
Looking at some of the photos more closely, I am not sure if it is reflection or is their clear coat deterioration?
See photo 9 of the passenger side front fender.
See photo 25 of the passenger side rear fender.
Can you comment on any paint work or visible paint defects, aside from normal stone chips?
Thanks!
@nsxcar *The alternator was replaced on 5/1/09 because I requested it due to fact I didn't like the gauge showing the charge at twelve volts, I thought it should always show above 13V.
*The Timing Belt and the Water Pump were replaced on 6/25/09 Odometer reading 44,283mi . There was no need to replace since I was not driving the car
Date codes on tires ? Original window sticker available? Does everything work ?
Just want to confirm, the timing belt and water pump have not been replaced in 15 years?!?
In 2019 prior to the move to NM, the only recommendations was to replace alternator?
When was the oil last changed?
Bid in the amount of $10,000

Welcome to the auction of my 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo. If you have any questions for me I will be checking this site and I will answer all question you may have. Thank you again,
@GrandNatty No cracks on the dash or anywhere else in the car, If ever I had to go in a store and parked the car outside I always pu up a screen to block the sun. The car has always been garaged.
@letsrenn The gas cap attaching points are plastic the original broke and I purchased a replacement on EBAY
@GrandNatty The gas cap attaching points are plastic the original broke and I purchased a replacement on EBAY
Also interested to hear about the gas flap. The paint on it looks like it was applied with a paint brush
Beautiful car. Of all the Porsches I've moved on from, my 1988 944 Turbo S Silver Rose (same specs as 89' turbo) is the one I really wish I kept. I've never found a more balanced or engaging car since. If there is an easier, more forgiving car to drive fast I don't know what it is. If I hadn't just made a few purchases I would be all over this well kept example. Good luck with the auction and hope the sellers remorse isn't as severe as mine was!
@altanri - any cracks or warpage on the dash? Close ups please. Also, oddly, read the sticker on the gas cap cover and tire size? Was the cover from another car?
Beautiful 951- looks perfect! Full S-spec as all the 89 turbos were, fastest 4-cylinder production car at the time, incredible balance from the transaxle, and one of the first with airbags! GLWTA!
