Marking the only year in which the 930 came equipped with the improved G50 5-speed manual transmission, this 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo is one of 600 U.S. market Cabriolets produced for the model year. This example comes finished in Grand Prix White over Black leather upholstery and features optional Sport Seats along with a shortened gearshift lever, a limited-slip differential, and more. It is reported to have been initially delivered to Long Beach California in November 1988 and shipped to Maui, Hawaii, in 1989 where it was kept for several years before arriving in Milan, Italy. The car was then imported to New York in 2005 and is now being offered for auction out of Pennsylvania with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and approximately 57k miles showing on the odometer.

The 930 is characterized by its wide Turbo-specific fenders and tea tray rear spoiler. This example comes finished in Grand Prix White with a replacement black convertible soft top along with a matching tonneau cover. Other equipment includes a front valence with integrated fog lights and a chin spoiler, headlight washers, a periscope-style third brake light, and a dual-tipped exhaust muffler. A set of aftermarket straked side air intakes, boxed rocker panels, and Euro-style brake light covers have been added. Aftermarket Fiske 3-piece wheels come dressed in Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport tires mounted at approximately 48k miles in May 2015. The seller notes very slight paint imperfections on the front bumper, driver’s side rear quarter panel, and lower driver’s side door. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin presents Black leather upholstery and factory options including Sport Seats, a raised steering wheel hub, a shortened gearshift lever, and a black velour-carpeted luggage compartment. Modifications include Billet aluminum ignition key trim, black leather MOMO shift knob, a matching shifter boot, Porsche-crested door handles, Lloyd floor mats with “Turbo” embroidery, upgraded doorstops, a Blaupunkt CD stereo, and Polk speakers. The seller notes the seat bolsters were reupholstered, a minor scratch is present on the driver’s side door leather insert, a 2" section of the piping on the driver's seat shows some wear, and all gauge bulbs have been replaced.

A turbocharged and intercooled 3.3-liter flat-six engine provides up to 282 HP and 289 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50/50 manual transaxle and an optional limited-slip differential. The seller adds that Mylar-backed engine soundproofing has been installed, an AC R134 conversion was completed in 2014, a previous owner installed a Borla exhaust system and a 1.0 bar wastegate spring. Additionally, the ECU and coil are said to have been replaced upon the seller’s acquisition, and an AM02 recall fix was performed at approximately 29k miles in January 2006. The seller also states the valves were adjusted every 10k miles and the hydraulic fluid was purged and replaced during brake servicing. The front/rear struts have been replaced, the suspension bushings were upgraded, and the car was rebalanced and aligned at 42k miles in May 2012. A host of service documentation will accompany the sale.

This sale will include a clean title, owner's manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, a battery charger, the original brake light covers, some original interior parts, a host of documentation, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

The seller would like you to know: “As a dedicated Porschephile, I have cherished this car from day one and have taken care of it as this fabulous icon deserves. It runs perfectly and truly is a visceral beast. Now, for one very lucky person, I have decided that it's time for someone else to enjoy this magnificent car. It is a runner and very clean. This is no garage queen and should not be treated as such. The car is in super shape and is ready to go!”

    joco18:

Picture # 57 also shows the bolster on the right (cloth seal portion of the top). These were reupholstered October 2012.

In picture 57, what is that photo showing? thanks

  • JohnBlackyoldtimer (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

Great, thank you very much for the video. The engine number is on the right side of the fan wheel on the engine block and is a little difficult to photograph. It would be good if they could confirm the engine number for us or take a picture of it themselves and send it to Pcarmarket, or Pcarmarket will check if they already have a picture of it. Thanks for the quick reply.

To JohnBlackyoldtimer: Regarding question 3: I have uploaded another driving video from this Spring. PCAR Market should get it posted out here soon.

  • 930DiscipleOfMarque (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

...and yes, it is a "Nice turbo", thank you. That really is an understatement IMHO.

  • 930DiscipleOfMarque (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

To JohnBlackyoldtimer: From what information the consigner had when I bought the car; 1. the brake strakes/vents were installed and painted after delivery by Porsche racer and dealer Alan Johnson. 2. The bezels are installed properly and there is no gap. The black you see is the seal. They are mounted properly tight against the soft rubber seal. 3. The videos were taken by PCAR Market's photographer. I'll leave it up to them If they want to send out their photographer again. 4. The cold start video is uploaded and online. 5. The original turbocharger is on the vehicle. The intercooler is original as well but has a new upper seal installed. The only other change to the engine itself was the addition of a 1 bar spring. Heat works great. AC after conversion works as good as any other R134 upgrade.

Regarding engine and gearbox number, PCAR Market's photographer handled all of the picture taking. I'll leave it up to them If they want to send out their photographer again. I bought this car with ~ 27k miles on it and to the best of my knowledge the engine and gearbox are original. I have never replaced them. There is no oil cooler in the intake similar to the M505 option.

  • JohnBlackyoldtimer (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

Please also take a photo of the engine number and the gearbox number and is there an oil cooler installed behind the right-hand side air intake?

  • JohnBlackyoldtimer (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

Nice turbo, but there are some questions.
    1. Were the side air intakes installed by the factory or a specialist workshop and who did the subsequent painting? Are there any references to this?
    2. Why aren't the bezels on the headlights properly seated? There is too much space between the glass and the retaining rings.
    3. Can you please upload a video of the turbo kicking in and also shifting the gears up and down while recording the engine noise? While the driving video is nice, it's not useful with the wind noise.
    4. Please also make a cold start video so that we can see whether the automatic cold start is still working.
    5. Is the original turbocharger still installed and what changes have been made to the engine apart from the exhaust?
    6. Are the air conditioning and heating working properly?
Thank you for answering my questions.
