Beginning life as a Porsche 930 Turbo, the RUF BTR (Gruppe B Turbo RUF) features an upgraded 3.4-liter engine rated at 374 horsepower, making it one of the fastest road-legal production cars of its time. This 1989 example was delivered new in Germany, finished in the Paint to Sample color of Black Metallic over a Black leather interior. It came factory-equipped with optional heated Sport Seats, a limited-slip differential, and a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle, which was unique to the 930 for that model year. The car was sent directly to RUF Automobile for a full BTR conversion, which also included a RUF front spoiler, a RUF suspension, 17” RUF Speedline wheels, RUF instrument dials, and several other RUF-specific accessories. It was imported to the U.S. from Europe by the seller several years ago, and it underwent major recent reconditioning, including a full engine rebuild, a glass-out repaint, dry ice detailing, new carpeting and headliner, an A/C system overhaul, and more. Accompanied by original documentation and a letter of authenticity from RUF, this BTR Coupe is now available for auction out of New York.
This 930 left the Porsche factory in the Paint to Sample color of Black Metallic and was delivered new to RUF, where it received a unique front spoiler, rear valence, quad-tipped exhaust outlets, and 17” RUF Speedline wheels as part of the BTR conversion. The car also features an electric sunroof, integrated yellow fog lights, European-spec side marker lights, RUF badging, black stone guard decals, drilled door handles, red-painted brake calipers, and a rear window wiper. The exterior was recently stripped and refinished in its original color, along with replacements of rubber body seals as needed. The undercarriage was also thoroughly detailed with dry ice blasting. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The black interior was factory-equipped with optional heated and power-adjustable leather Sport Seats with contrast piping. Items from RUF include a three-spoke sport steering wheel, a drilled aluminum pedal set, RUF-branded instrument dials, and floor mats. The car is also equipped with power windows, air conditioning, a central locking system, an Alpine Bluetooth stereo, and a fire extinguisher mounted below the passenger seat. The carpeting and headliner were recently replaced, along with an overhaul of the A/C system. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.
The BTR uses a Porsche 930 engine rebuilt by RUF to a 3.4-liter displacement. Producing up to 374 HP, it features Mahle pistons, RUF 935-type camshafts, a larger KKK turbocharger, a RUF intercooler, a RUF exhaust system, and a front-mounted oil cooler. This example is equipped with a 5-speed G50/50 manual transaxle and an optional limited-slip differential sending power to the rear wheels. The seller indicates a complete engine rebuild was recently performed, along with the installation of a new lightweight heavy-duty clutch assembly, alternator, and battery.
This sale will include the original RUF Porsche owner’s manual, a letter from RUF Automobile confirming authenticity, a stamped service book, a toolkit, a jack, a spare, a first aid kit, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This 930 Turbo was sold new in Germany and sent directly to RUF Automobile for a full BTR conversion. Options on the car include a sunroof, heated sport seats, and all RUF fittings. Full ownership history is included in the file folder. This BTR has enjoyed seasonal use throughout its lifetime thus far and has enjoyed well maintained European ownership until being acquired by Tom Papadopoulos-Autosport Designs personal ownership and use and prior to be sold to a very good friend of Autosport Designs, Inc. During the most recent ownership, this BTR has received a complete engine rebuild, new lightweight HD clutch assembly. It has also received a complete strip (glass out) repaint during which all seals were replaced as needed. The interior received all-new carpeting and a new headliner. It has also received the following updates as well as further maintenance: Alpine radio head unit with Bluetooth, a new alternator, a new battery, new tires, a complete air conditioning overhaul service, and the underside-tub-shell have received a full dry ice blasting detail. Although extremely fast, this BTR is exceptionally docile and can be used for everyday use if desired. It has been run at .08 bar of boost to ensure the engine's longevity. Sure to put a huge smile on your face, this 930 RUF 3.4-liter BTR is pure enjoyment as only Porsche and RUF can supply. A welcome addition to any Porsche or RUF collection.”

@82turboruf it is running .08-.085 at the moment and to be honest it’s enough, especially with the 5-speed. Great drivability, limited lag. My car is factory CIS and there is absolutely no reason to change this in my opinion.
Your 930. If you are dialing in the boost given the installation of a 1.0 bar boost spring, you must check the boost flat out under load in at least 4th gear if a 5-speed, definitely 4th gear if a 4-speed.
Just because the boost spring is said-labeled to be 1.0 bar does not mean it is 1.0 bar. Adjustments may need to be made. Also, the boost limiter is set at 1.1 for overboosting so as long as that is still connected you’ll be ok if overboosting and until the boost level your seeking is achieved. Please also take into account the weather when setting up the boost level and account t for this, if cold the boost will be higher.
This 930 was sent from the factory to RUF for modification to BTR specifications, it therefore retained the original Porsche VIN WP0ZZZ.
The front and rear bumpers have been updated to CTR.
I agree these RUF BTR’s are special and they certainly do not come to market often in the condition of this example and with excellent provenance from new.
Welcome any questions, keep them coming.

Very nice BTR. How much boost are you running and what is the rear wheel HP? Is it the CIS factory?
My Ruf tech installed a 1 Bar wastegate spring when converted but it is pulling about .8 bar per the andial boost guage. With the CTR getting 6 mil$ last month at Amelia Werks the BTR s should get stronger money. Do you retain the Porsche vin? thanks,lw

@vichang4 I cannot agree more since I had owned this actual BTR for quite some time. That said, I would keep it if I didn’t have one of the first DP 930/935’s with 3.4 liter and RUF 5-speed all done by RUF for DP Motorsport when new. It has become part of the family collection.

This was one of the ultimate cars to own in 1989 for someone who cost was no object. The RUF conversion was very expensive and very desirable. As a past owner of a1987 930 with the RUF 3.4 engine these cars are a lot of fun.
