We are pleased to present this 1989 930 Turbo G50 5-speed finished in Grand Prix White over a Marine Blue leather interior. Representing a truly well-preserved and tastefully equipped example, this 930 stands as 1 of only 639 coupes exported to the U.S. for the 1989 model year. This 930 was originally delivered to Gullo-Haas Imports of Houston, Texas where it was sold to a gentleman from New Orleans who would keep the car for the next ten years, adding approximately 23k miles along the way. The car was purchased by the current owner in December of 2009 with approximately 37.5k miles shown. Having been sparingly driven and painstakingly maintained during its life, this 930 now shows 38,342 miles on the odometer and is being offered for auction in exemplary condition by its seller in Michigan.
The factory Grand Prix White finish on this Turbo is stated to be in excellent original condition, displaying only minimal road-going wear including some rock chips and a small chip on the outer edge of the passenger side wheel arch. The seller also notes a plugged hole on the roof where an antenna was once fitted, however, the fitment and finish of the area is stated to have been professionally performed. Photos detailing the condition of the exterior will be provided in the gallery.
Exterior features include a factory sunroof as well as a distinctive whale tail rear spoiler. This 930 rides on correct color-matched Fuchs wheels that remain in superb condition and come mounted with 245/45/16 X 205/55/16 BF Goodrich G-force T/A tires with excellent tread.
This 930 Turbo is appointed with a Marine Blue partial leather interior that compliments the exterior finish beautifully. The interior is stated to be in exceptional original condition with smooth and clean seating surfaces, solid bolsters and only light wear showing. The blue carpeting retains excellent color and consistency with contrasting yellow “Turbo” logos emblazoned on the floor mats. Factory options specified for this 930 are listed as follows:
All electronic components, gauges and accessories are reported to be fully functional at this time.
This 930 carries its original 3.3L turbocharged flat-six engine that sends approximately 282 HP to the rear wheels by way of a highly desirable G50 5-speed transmission. Utilizing this drivetrain, the 930 achieves 0-60 in approximately 4.9 seconds while reaching top speeds upwards of 150mph. This G50 transmission provides much smoother shifting and a more manageable rev range suitable for daily driving among other transmission setups. 17 pages worth of records and invoices show how meticulously maintained this car has been during its life. A number of service items were recently performed in order to keep the car in top running shape including: valve adjustments, a head stud inspection, replacements of seals and gaskets, installation of a new battery, rebuilding the clutch hydraulics and an R134a refrigerant conversion. The seller states that the engine starts up right away and the vehicle remains in excellent running order.
Marking the final iteration of the 930, the 1989 Turbo was both the first and last 930 to be equipped with a refined 5-speed G50 transmission. For this reason, the ’89 930 is among the most collectible and sought after air-cooled Turbo’s to date.
The sale of this 930 will include the original books, tools, jack, spare, COA, and a collection service records. This vehicle is offered with a clean bill of health as well as a clear Pennsylvania title. A truly well-presented and strikingly beautiful example, this 1989 Turbo would make an excellent addition to any discerning enthusiast’s collection.
