A special low-roof two-seat cabriolet evoking the original 356 Speedster of the 1950s, the 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster celebrates the final year of the 911 Carrera 3.2 series. This example is one of 823 cars produced for the U.S. market and features wide Turbo-style bodywork in Guards Red, a Cashmere Beige interior, a 5-Speed G50 manual transaxle, 16” Fuchs alloy wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, power Sport Seats, and a distinctive double-hump convertible top cover. The car was sold new in Hawaii and was registered in New Jersey from 1997 until the current owner's purchase in 2023. Accompanied by a Porsche Production Specifications Certificate, this highly collectible 911 Speedster is now being offered for auction out of Michigan with approximately 33k miles showing on the odometer.
The 911 Speedster features wide fenders derived from the 930 Turbo model, a unique short windscreen, and a manual convertible top that stows beneath a fiberglass double-hump rear deck cover. This example is finished in Guards Red with a black soft top. It rides on 16” Fuchs alloy wheels dressed in Fuzion ZRi tires. Equipment includes black rear stone guard decals, headlamp washers, integrated fog lights, a front chin spoiler, and a raised pericope-style third brake light. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The two-seater cabin is appointed with Cashmere Beige partial leather upholstery including power-adjustable Sport Seats and a three-spoke leather steering wheel. Other equipment includes a shortened gear shift lever, manual roll-up windows, automatic climate control, cruise control, Speedster-branded floor mats, aftermarket speakers, and a Sony cassette stereo. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.
The air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 217 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle. The 911 Speedster model incorporates the uprated suspension and cross-drilled disc brakes of the 930 Turbo. Service in 2024 includes replacement of the shifter bushings, new parking brake shoes, CV boots, and an oil change.
This sale will include a Porsche Production Specifications Certificate, an owner’s manual, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for following this stunning Guards Red 1989 Speedster. With only 823 made for the United States, this is a great opportunity to own a piece of Porsche history. Besides the stereo, the car remains 100% stock with original paint, no accidents, and has only 33k miles recorded. A phenomenal example that will only appreciate over time. Happy bidding!”
