Marking the end of production for the 911 Carrera series in 1989, the 911 Speedster evokes the classic 356 model with a lightweight open two-seater design featuring a manual folding convertible top and a short, steepened windscreen. This example is one of 823 Porsche 911 Speedsters sold in the United States and is finished in Black over a Cashmere Beige interior with optional power Sport Seats, deviated piping, air conditioning, an upgraded sound system, and an Alcantara-wrapped MOMO steering wheel. Originally designated for delivery at the Porsche factory through the European Delivery Program, this Speedster shows ownership history in California and Arizona before the seller’s acquisition in 2023. This highly collectible air-cooled 911 is now being offered for auction out of Tennessee with approximately 86k miles showing on the odometer.
The 911 Speedster shares its wide fenders with the contemporary 911 Turbo and features a shortened windscreen and a manually operated convertible top that stows beneath a unique double-hump fiberglass tonneau cover. This example is finished in Black with a matching convertible top and factory 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels. Other equipment includes integrated front fog lights, a periscope-style brake light, custom dual exhaust outlets, colored Porsche crest center caps, and black brake calipers with white Porsche lettering. The seller indicates paint protection film is applied to the forward-facing surfaces and the exterior has been treated with ceramic coating. A tear is noted on the rubber windshield gasket and a scratch can be seen on the rear bumper cover. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin features optional power-adjustable Sport Seats with black deviated piping, an Alcantara-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, custom white instrument dials, and two-tone coco floor mats. The Speedster comes without rear seats or power windows, although the example features optional air conditioning for driver comfort. The sound system has been upgraded with a Sony head unit, aftermarket speakers, and a JL Audio amplifier. The seller adds that the window tracks were adjusted and the air conditioning system was serviced under their ownership, and the tachometer and clock were rebuilt in 2023.
The air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 217 HP and 195 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle. Along with its wider bodywork, the Speedster also features the 930 Turbo’s suspension and cross-drilled disc brakes. The seller indicates the brake fluid was changed under their ownership along with replacement of the shifter bushing.
This sale will include owner’s manuals and a clean title.

I’m in Nashville, about a mile from N/S and E/W interstates, middle of the country. My enclosed shipping rates to and from Nashville have always been reasonable in price and duration. I prefer Plycon over any type of brokerage. Reliable is great too, but pricier that Plycon. Or, fly and drive. You could literally fly in and drive this car cross country……it needs nothing but a new caretaker, which is what we are to these mechanical masterpieces. If I had garage space, I would not be selling, because it’s a great specimen, and in my opinion, it’s not gonna lose any value.
Just sent a cold start up to the PCAR guys. Hope they will get it posted…. Starts and idles just as it should, purrs just as it should….

You have any videos on the cold start and driving for this beauty?
I wanted to make a few additions and clarifications about the listing. First, the MOMO wheel is new. It came w a MOMO, but it was a bit worn, so I replaced. I like Alcantara, having had it in several GT Porsches, and frankly, I don’t like this era’s factory wheel. So I installed a new MOMO. The car comes with a very nice, soft, lightweight indoor cover than fits quite well. A switch on the AC was replaced when it was serviced. The AC has been converted. The tires, Bridgestone Potenzas, were installed late last Summer. The alignment was checked at that time. The car runs straight, nothing pulling, etc. the engine idles as it should, and starts as it should, even after sitting on the tender for a bit. When I bought it, there was no mention of the audio system, which disappointed me when I first saw it. I looked at buying a retro, now discontinued Blaupunkt head and removing the custom, leather covered box which contains the subs and amp. All could be easily removed. But…….then I researched the system a bit. It has a Sony RSX-GS9 head unit, which audiophiles consider one of the finest head units ever made for car audio. And, then, I started listening to it….and, I was hooked. When it was displayed at the Chattanooga Auto Festival, I simply threw the black cover over the rear speakers and no one new those ugly things were in it…. But, wow, it sounds amazing. And, my detailer, who is into car audio said it’s probably a $25k system and looked to be SEMA display quality. Who knows, but it sounds fantastic. And, if you don’t like it, yank the box and the head unit and put them in a spare car or SUV. While a bit disappointed at first, because I enjoy stock/OEM Porsches, it turned out to be a great addition. If I kept the car long term, I’d prob eventually remove just to free up space behind seats, but I will let the new owner make that call. I think the additional pictures of every nook and cranny of the underside show how clean the car remains. The cosmoline is present where it should be found on a car this age, and I’ve seen zero corrosion on the car, and that makes sense given its history in Az. and Cali. I grew up with Porsches, been obsessed with them for over 40 years since my dad brought home a ‘66 912 in about 1985. And, I have owned many 911s (c2, gt3, gts, g50, etc) over a 20 year period. I know these cars well, my wife would say, to a fault….

The pics I had the guys upload yesterday were taken late Spring ‘24 on a friend’s garage lift. I tried to capture just how clean this car remains. The car clearly represents a vehicle that has remained in Cali and AZ. its entire life. While I have almost no records, it’s pretty obvious this car was loved and maintained by someone. While I cannot recall where I gathered this info, I recall being told it was first purchased by an Air Force colonel in Germany, which is consistent with its Euro delivery spec. It was first registered in Cali with a few miles, so that makes sense. Can you imagine the thrill of taking delivery of this in Germany, then driving around there for a bit. I can imagine a Colonel looking at retirement buying this car before heading back stateside. It was thrilling enough to accept this car in Nashville. But, I’ve had my time with it, and like all of my P cars, I sell it in better shape than I accepted it. I’ve been around Porsches all of my life, my father being a Porsche guy too. So, I like to think that I buy them right, and a good caretaker of them while I own them. My only problem is a lack of garage space, two car with one side stuffed with motorcycles. So, it’s time for another one…..I’m currently eyeing 930s……
I had the Pcar guys upload some more pictures.

I am the owner/seller of this Speedster. I bought it out of a Southern California collection last Summer '23. I had it shipped to me in Nashville via enclosed carrier and began driving it to sort it out. I took a bit of a gamble with it when I bought it, having not seen it, and not inspecting it. It's not what I typically do with my P cars. But, it paid off as this is a great example of an '89 Speedster that has been cared for and driven. The paint is too perfect with the age and miles to have not been restored. The seats must have been restored too. And, the audio system is fantastic. I think the services and repairs I did since buying are in the listing, but serviced engine, tires, alignment, brakes, AC. I repaired the tach, clock, and told one of the best factory trained Porsche air cooled mechanic to do anything else it needed. He said it was one of the tightest, nicest G50s he had seen. I am happy to answer any questions.
Nicely presented, These Speedsters (1989) are getting hard to find and this one is outstanding.
Best of lucK
