Representing the final year of the R107 generation SL-Class roadster, this 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SL was the most high-powered model available for North America featuring a 5.6-liter V8 engine. It comes finished in Black over a Palomino leather interior and has remained garage-kept while owned in the seller’s family for over 30 years. Having been routinely maintained including replacements of the timing chain, alternator, and A/C compressor, this SL560 is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner out of New York.
This R107 is finished in Black (040) with a matching removable hardtop and a retractable fabric soft top. Custom gold pinstripes are applied to each side and the car rides on factory 15” Gullideckel alloy wheels. Other equipment includes heat-insulating glass, a heated rear windowpane, and an automatic fender-mounted antenna. The seller notes a slight imperfection and some oxidization on the hood and rear trunk lid from a mobile phone antenna that had been mounted in the 1980s. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, this SL features Palomino leather upholstery with matching carpets, wood trim, and a black dashboard. Accessories include automatic climate control, power seats and windows, an outside temperature indicator, sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, and a folding front armrest. The seller notes some signs of wear are present from normal use, a new OEM stereo was fitted about 7 years ago, and a new A/C compressor has been installed. The odometer is also said to have previously failed, and the car’s true mileage is unknown.
A naturally aspirated and fuel-injected 5.6-liter V8 SOHC engine delivers up to 227 HP and 287 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission. Stopping power comes from power-assisted disc brakes at each corner. The suspension includes double wishbones in front, a diagonal swing axle in the rear, and stabilizer bars front & rear. The seller notes the alternator was replaced 5 years ago and the timing chain was replaced within the last 2 years, both using new OEM parts.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, some documentation, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “The car has been in our family and garage-kept for 30 years. All work has been done by top-rated MB mechanics and using only OEM parts. She is a beauty and she runs as smooth as she did back in 1989.”

@AIR_MotorSports if i drove 1,500 miles in that period, i would be surprised. It was driven around locust Valley during the spring and fall. We are away over the summer. The car has been used lightly and garage kept its entire life.
Any estimate of the mileage that accumulated while the odometer was not working?
Uploaded the Svs records for 21-23’. Hans and Matt both know the car.

Time to eat some humble pie. I was looking at this car online with my phone and with that little itty-bitty screen and realize that these two cars are very similar, but in two very different locations and with different numbers.
Both cars presented extremely well. Hopefully I will be the winning better.

Some reason half the pics didn't load for me the first time. See the hardtop now, thanks.
@Firewood it has the hard top. The tires are 5 years old, very little wear.
Very nice! These look so fine in black. Best year, too. No removable hard-top though? Did it somehow get lost over the decades? Also, what are the tire dates? Thanks and best wishes for a good sale!
