Based on the E30 chassis, the original BMW M3 was developed to satisfy homologation requirements for Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) and Group A Touring rules. It features a special aerodynamic design, uprated brakes and suspension, a 5-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, and a high-revving 2.3-liter S14 DOHC inline-four engine. Finished in Diamond Black Metallic over grey leather upholstery, this European-market 1989 example was purchased new by the current owner from BMW Cooper West in London and eventually relocated to their residence in the South of France, where it was driven sparingly with just over 3,000 kilometers added in the last 20 years. This one-owner Euro-spec M3 is now being offered for auction out of Monaco with approximately 39k kilometers or 24k miles covered from new.
Sharing only its hood and roof with a standard E30 3-Series, the M3 wears special aerodynamic bodywork including a front spoiler, rear valence, wheel arch flares, side skirts, and a fixed wing mounted atop a lightweight glass-reinforced plastic trunk lid. This example is finished in Diamond Black Metallic and equipped with an electric sunroof, integrated fog lights, dual exhaust tips, and silver 16” basketweave wheels. The seller indicates the original paint remains in very good condition apart from some light swirl marks. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features manually adjustable front sport seats trimmed in grey leather with matching door panels and carpeting. Accessories include a three-spoke black leather M-Technic I steering wheel, an M Technic shift knob, power windows, an onboard computer, air conditioning, and a BMW Bavaria cassette stereo. The seller indicates the original speedometer failed and was replaced by a BMW dealership at 39,221 kilometers, and the new speedometer shows slightly over 200 kilometers. A corresponding invoice and certificate are available, confirming the original mileage and gauge replacement.
The naturally aspirated 2.3-liter S14 DOHC inline-four engine was factory-rated at 215 HP. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a European-spec dogleg 5-speed Getrag manual transmission featuring close-ratio gearing and a 1:1 ratio fifth gear. Compared to a standard 3-Series, the M3 came equipped with a clutch-type limited-slip differential, larger brakes and vented discs, and a revised suspension with a thicker rear anti-roll bar and shorter, stiffer springs. The seller indicates the car was maintained with routine services throughout its life, including replacements of the clutch, brakes, spark plugs, and engine oil.
This sale will include original registration documents, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a battery trickle charger, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “An amazing opportunity to own an original and true one-owner E30 M3 in full original paint.”
