The original BMW M3 was developed as a DTM homologation car based on the E30 3-Series featuring specialized aerodynamic bodywork and a 2.3-liter S14 inline-four engine. This 1989 example is a French-market example finished in Diamond Black Metallic over Natur leather upholstery. It features a slicktop roof, a European-spec 5-speed dogleg manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, Bilstein shocks, yellow headlamps, front sport seats, an M-Tech II steering wheel, a BMW Bavaria CII cassette stereo, an onboard computer, and 16” basketweave wheels. The car remained in France until it was imported to the U.S. in September 2021. Accompanied by an owner’s manual, import documents, service records, and a copy of the French sales invoice, this E30 M3 is now being offered for auction out of North Carolina with approximately 142k kilometers or 88k miles showing on the odometer.
Sharing only its hood and roof panel with the standard E30 3-Series, the M3 features distinctive boxed fender flares, side skirts, an aerodynamic front fascia, and a rear spoiler mounted atop a lightweight glass-reinforced plastic trunk lid. This non-sunroof example is finished in Diamond Black Metallic and includes French-market yellow headlights, headlamp washers, integrated fog lights, a roof-mounted antenna, a dual-tipped exhaust outlet, and silver 16” basketweave wheels dressed in Toyo Proxes T1R tires. The seller indicates an imperfection on the rear spoiler and that the passenger door was refinished under previous ownership. Appointed with Natur leather upholstery, the interior features front sport seats, a rear bench seat, a black leather M-Tech II steering wheel, an M gear knob, an M-branded instrument cluster, power windows, an onboard computer, and a BMW Bavaria CII cassette stereo. The seller indicates the radio requires an initialization code to function.
Rated at 215 HP, the 2.3-liter S14B23 inline-four engine drives the rear wheels through a European-spec 5-speed manual transmission with a dogleg first gear, a 1:1 fifth gear ratio, and a limited-slip differential. The car features four-wheel disc brakes, Bilstein shocks, and an M-specific suspension with a thicker rear sway bar and shorter, stiffer springs than a standard E30. Service in 2023 included replacements of the brake master cylinder, clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, a hydraulic clutch line, water pump, auxiliary fan temperature sensor, fan shroud, and high-pressure fuel lines. The coolant reservoir was also replaced in June 2024.
This sale will include an owner’s manual, service records, import documents, a copy of the French sales invoice, and a clean title.

This car does not have AC?
Folks we're just under 24 hours away from the end of the auction. This is an excellent example of Euro E30 M3. It's been documented and cared for to a high standard from day one. The car runs, drives, and functions exactly as it should. It's a hoot to drive. Seldom do you find these examples without a sunroof and A/C. The S14 delivers ample power when called upon, and the dogleg Getrag box is fantastic.
