Up for auction is this 2-owner 1988 Porsche 928 S4 finished in Guards Red over a Black and Beige leather interior. Signifying the final iteration of the Porsche 928, the S4 was debuted with revised bodywork, a rear spoiler and an improved V8 engine with a 5.0L displacement and 4 valves per cylinder. Purchased by its seller in Texas from its original owner in 1992, this 5-speed 1988 example is said to have been kept in excellent condition over the years with approximately 75k miles now showing on the odometer.
Reported to have always been garage-kept and covered, the Guards Red finish on this 928 is said to be all-original and in very nice condition. A couple of small dings have been indicated on the front hood and rear driver’s side quarter panel (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). This S4 can be distinguished from previous variants by its aerodynamically improved nose and fixed black polyurethane rear spoiler. This example retains its factory equipped “Manhole Cover” wheels which are dressed in older Kumho tires exhibiting ample tread life.
This luxury grand tourer features an accommodating Beige leather interior which is said to be in great shape aside from some minor wear on the driver’s seat. An aftermarket Sony radio has been installed along with upgraded speakers, although the stock speaker grilles have been kept helping maintain an original appearance. The digital clock and interior rear hatch release are nonfunctional; however, the seller confirms all other gauges and accessories to be working properly.
This S4 is powered by a DOHC 4-valve per cylinder 5.0 L V8 engine which is mated to a desirable 5-speed manual transaxle. 320 HP is sent to the rear wheels providing for a 0-60 time of approximately 5.5 seconds and a top speed north of 160 MPH. Proper routine maintenance has been carried out from new as well as a few noteworthy service items such as a throttle body replacement, a new head gasket and new Bilstein shock absorbers all-around. Service records are included and this 928 is said to drive beautifully.
Items included in this sale are the original books, tools, jack, air compressor and spare tire, 1 master key and a car cover. This stunning S4 is just waiting to be enjoyed by a new caretaker, do not miss out.

@ptconner Not normal, will need to get this checked. I monitor gauges closely but have noticed this before.
I note that in the driving video, both upon startup, and throughout the drive, the temperature gauge is pegged. Has this been addressed? Is that normal for your car?
New photo and video content has been added to the listing.
Bid in the amount of $20,000
@Porscheguy I will need to check with my service team tomorrow regarding the timing belt...most likely was serviced.
Great car. Wish I had more room.
@allmack I will need to check with my service team tomorrow...most likely was serviced.
Bid in the amount of $12,250
When were the timing belt and water pump last serviced in your 28 years of ownership?
@Porscheguy Timing belt service has not been needed.
When was the last time timing belt service done?
@jimmyjames I have some videos now and have sent to PCCARMARKET and waiting for them to upload. Thanks for your patience.
@sbell914 My apologies for PCARMARKET staff. Interior and dash color is as shown in the images.
More images and video to come. Waiting for PCCARMARKET staff.
@allmack No repairs on the timing belt and/or water pump have been required.
@allmack No response. Interesting.
Bid in the amount of $12,000
That is the most interesting BLACK LEATHER interior I have ever seen.
Bid in the amount of $5,000
@dbenke OK, so for how long has the odo not been working? And while I appreciate the confidence that no repairs are needed, when were the timing belt and water pump done? Thanks.
@allmack Spedometer is working fine. Odometer is not working. The car is driven < 100 miles per year. Basicially, for the yearly inspection and a few short drives on a nice day.
@Schumi I will get additional pics of the interior, including the bolsters, and will upload tomorrow.
@allmack No timing belt or water pump repairs needed.
@jimmyjames Good idea. I will prepare some tomorrow and upload.
Also requisite to ask about most recent timing belt and water pump work.
Do you have any videos of the car running? Preferably a cold start and some video of the car driving?
Carfax shows total mileage unknown. Can you explain?
Engine work - 1) throttle valve replaced & 2) valve cover gaskets replaced
Dash - perfect condition, not scratches/dents
Dings - can send or add pics, less than US nickel size
What engine work has been done in the last 5 years? Could you mention the dash leather and driver's seat bolster? Also, photos of the "dings" mentioned in the ad would be helpful to see.
Thanks
