The 3.2 Carrera, the final iteration of the original 911 series, is esteemed within the 911 lineage, especially those with the robust Getrag G50 transmission. Originally sold at Barrier Porsche in Bellevue, this lifelong Seattle-area car was acquired by the current owner from Park Place Ltd. in 2011 and has reportedly been regularly serviced by the local specialists at Park Place and Dobson Stuttgart. Finished in Guards Red over Black upholstery, it features an optional raised steering wheel hub, Fuchs alloy wheels, cruise control, and an alarm system. Garage-stored by the current owner of 13 years, it is now being offered for auction with approximately 102k miles showing on the odometer.

This 911 is finished in Guards Red with a removable black roof panel, Targa band, and wraparound glass rear window. Additional equipment includes a front valence with a chin spoiler and integrated fog lights, impact bumpers, and a single exhaust outlet. It rides on 16” Fuchs wheels with Dunlop Dirrezza DZ102 tires from 2015. The seller confirms the originality of the paint based on the provided paint meter readings. Slight signs of road wear are evident on the front of the vehicle, along with a blemish on the Targa top that has been repaired, though still visible. Additional images are available in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the driver is situated with a Black leather interior including amenities such as power-adjustable side mirrors, cruise control, a raised steering hub, an alarm system, power windows, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and VDO instrumentation. Upgrades include an aftermarket head unit with MP3, CD, and USB capabilities, complemented by red and black Coco floor mats. The seller confirms all gauges, electronics, and accessories to be working properly.

Power comes from an air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine generating 217 HP stock. The rear wheels are driven by way of a Getrag G50 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller adds that service invoices, including those from Park Place and Dobson Stuttgart, will accompany the sale. Some oil leakage is noted.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: "This 1988 911 Targa is an absolutely stunning car. Although it shows more than 100,000 miles on the odometer, the overall condition is better than many 40,000-mile G-Body 911s that have come through our shop. The car is a lifelong Pacific Northwest car, sold new in Bellevue, WA, and residing in the greater Seattle area ever since. From what we have been told, it has always lived in a garage and has not been subject to any paintwork and we have no reason to doubt that. A quick detail on the single stage Guards Red paint and the car pops like it just came out of the showroom, and the black interior is the same story. When you combine the fantastic visuals of the car with a stout 3.2-liter flat-6 and the ultra-desirable G50 gearbox, this is the perfect 911 for summer. The consignor has owned it for 13 years and after a quick drive behind the wheel, we understand why - in our eyes, this car is a keeper."

As we’re coming towards the home stretch, I’d like to mention that three prospective bidders/buyers have come to see the car in person, two have driven it around the block. The resounding consensus is that it’s as good if not better than the pictures and description suggest.

A local, rust free, great spec, Guards Red G50 Targa isn’t something you come across often. It’s “Driver Grade++” in my mind and I’ve personally had the privilege of putting several hundred miles on this car. You won’t be disappointed.

Thanks for the mirror photos.! They were as expected. 350 photos kinda makes it a " Where's Waldo " situation.

Was wondering where the comment about an oil leak @TheGerman noted below came from. There's a service from 2014 that notes a possible oil leak from the cam housings (leading to the heat with a smell of oil). Can the seller comment on this?

    Hi PCar community,

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the two of us at Dobson Stuttgart won't be at our computers when the auction is closing.
We should be able to answer questions, but if you need additional photos or information, please make the request with as much lead time as possible so we are sure to see it.

Thanks to everyone and excited to see what happens as things wind down!

  • DobsonStuttgart (seller) 3 weeks, 3 daysago

@Pooh356 Additional photos of the mirrors have been sent to our auction rep for upload.

@zootfinster We have sent photos of the black marks on the lower front by the spoiler to be uploaded. It is not rust but some sealant from the spoiler install. We can say with confidence that the car is rust free.

@Thegerman This is a 100,000+ mile air-cooled 911 and as the old joke goes, if the car isn’t seeping oil, there isn’t any in the engine!

  • TheGerman (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

it is absolutely incomprehensible why you did not repair the oil leak before offering it at auction.
    What is the reason for??

  • DobsonStuttgart (seller) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

@pooh356 I appreciate your very specific questions, but with 350 photos, records since nearly new, videos, and factory paint, I really don’t know how much more we can provide for you. You’re very welcome to come see the car before the end of the auction and I have no doubt the other bidders who have will agree that it’s as good as it looks in the photos. Happy bidding!

  • pooh356 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

Difficult to determine how significant the road rash is as it appears that there were water droplets on the car when the photos were taken. What is deemed not serious by the seller may be viewed differently by the buyer.

  • ZootFinster (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

By chance are there compression readings? Also, as @tff asked previously, could you please address the black (looks like rust) adjacent the spoiler, just below the fog light, in picture 107? From where, and how much, does this sweet thing drip/leak? Thank you!

  • DobsonStuttgart (seller) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

@pooh356 There is a small chip in the lower center section of the windshield that has been professionally filled and is not noticeable from the driver's seat.
Also, there are some imperfections on the mirrors that have been touched up.
I wouldn't consider them "serious" but keep in mind, this is a car with over 100,000 miles, so some wear is to be expected.

  • pooh356 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

and, would you comment on what appears to be some serious chips on the mirrors

  • pooh356 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

Is there a bullseye chip in the lower center of the windshield ?

@halvkd Paint meter readings have been sent to our auction rep for upload so hopefully those will be up by tomorrow morning. A driving video is also on its way.

Also, we appreciate you all digging into the front spoiler - this is good information for the new owner to have.
It looks so good on the car, we never even though to question it!

Image #271 - None of the option codes relate to the factory front/rear spoiler, the front was added.

  • DobsonStuttgart (seller) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

@tff you might know more about this than I do, but I’m fairly certain the car never had a “whale tail.” As to other modifications, I can’t say as they would have been completed prior to this ownership period.

But it sure looks “right,” at least to my eyes.

  • DobsonStuttgart (seller) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

@halvkd yes, thank you. I will upload photos of the meter readings today. Somehow that got lost in the shuffle, but they all read 4-6-8 mil, within factory tolerance.

I will be honest, based on how good the paint is, I assumed it had been resprayed at some point in its life, but the numbers don’t lie. Not a hint of rust in the usual locations, either.

  • halvkd (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

The description states included paint meter readings. Can seller please provide?

  • tff (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

My understanding is that the front chin spoiler and the rear whale tale spoiler go hand in hand. (The aerodynamics make sense re this). Either the chin spoiler was added, or the rear spoiler was removed. Can the seller confirm which?
Can the front spoiler be easily removed? There appears to be some black 'stuff' at the front spoiler in slide 107... what is that?
    Thank you.
(Nice looking car. Even like the red & black matching Coco mats.)

@Caymanorcarrera Message received and fully understand, Sir. Just trying to be helpful to those who have never owned a similar vehicle. Wishing you a pleasant rest of your weekend!

How many times are you going to re-cycle that comment?........pretty sure you've posted it on BaT numerous times...........it was good the first time or two, but it's becoming a bit tedious.

Now for this Targa. Nice looking lower mi example. The PNW climate is quite easy on cars. 101 K isn't much on one of these. I have the same car in an '89 that has almost 200K, and looks as good as this one. One top end years ago, and just rather routine maintenance since.

This Targa top needs a recover at some point. Mine was done by Cars Inc. (Dan Petchel) years ago, and still looks perfect, although I rarely fold it (-:

@MLINKK great insight! All of the items you mention have been addressed (lights, odo, etc) and operate as they should. I appreciate you weighing on your ownership experience on these cars. In my 20 years in the industry, this is among the best I’ve ever seen or driven.

Beautiful spec! Just my 2 cents…. I’m a 27 year owner of an ‘88 Targa that currently has 83k miles. These G-Body models are solid and can be used as a daily driver, on the track, or park in your garage and drool over. You can expect oil leaks, issues with the odometer, speedometer, interior lighting, air conditioning, etc, which is not unusual. I had my Targa refurbished a few years ago that resolved most of these recurring issues. If you keep on top of servicing the car properly and regularly, the health of these beautiful machines will last for 100s of thousands of miles…and smiles. I cannot speak for all ‘88 G-Body Targas nor am I claiming to be an educated expert of this model because I’m not. I’m just a G-Body enthusiast who loves his car providing my personal experience and opinion. GLWTA
