Up for auction is this rare 1988 Porsche 911 M491 Coupe.  Giving 911 models an aggressive “Turbo Look” along with many bespoke upgrades, the M491 is an extremely sought after factory package.  Accordingly, only 29 coupes were built in 1988, making this one of the rarest production 911 models to date.  Originally sold new at Giles Porsche of Lafayette, Louisiana, the car was then transported to California in the late 1990s where it resided with the second owner until the current owners recent acquisition.  It is now being offered out of Los Angeles in excellent condition with just 57k miles on the odometer.

The sleek Black paint is stated to be in excellent condition with only minor wear including a few small chips. The car has been professionally repainted at some point in its life with all proper stickers still in place, including the option code sticker under the hood.  The photo gallery provides a true depiction of this 911’s condition.

The M491 option is not only rare, but includes cosmetic and mechanical upgrades to help make it a truly unique looking and performing Porsche.  The M491 includes the wider Turbo body with whale-tail along with turbo suspension and brakes.

Inside, you will find a completely original black and linen leather interior.  The seats, dashboard, door panels, carpets, and roof liner are all in excellent condition aside from a few areas of wear, mostly on the seats.  Factory options include factory sport seats, Reno radio, a raised hub steering wheel, and limited slip differential.  All gauges and electronics are stated to be in working order.

Power comes from its original 3.2L flat-six engine producing 217HP and is connected to the coveted 5-speed G50 transmission.  Not many M491 Carreras are equipped with the G50 transmission, making this example that much more special.  Records from 1988 to 2015 along with custom notes from the previous owner will verify consistent services.

The sale will include a clean Carfax, 2 keys, tools, jack, service records, original purchase paperwork, copy of Certificate of Origin, original books, maintenance book with option code sticker, and Porsche dealer stamps from new.

M491 + sport seats + LSD. Three great tastes that go great together.

Kudos to the previous owners for keeping thorough records over the years (decades). Among other things, the records show a few incidents and resultant repairs.

Amazingly, the driver's door pocket is not cracked / bowed out, like 90%+ of them are. As a result, notice how the flip up lid is straight / square. The passenger side pocket is cracked at the upper most fastener (hence the pocket bows outward and the lid droops into the opening). Normally, if only one side is cracked, it's the other way around (i.e. driver's side cracked & passenger side intact).

    GLWA to bidder & seller!

Very nice car. I have a 1987 M491 Carrera. There is a registry for this fairly rare optioned car.

Does the AC blow cold and is there any oil leaks? How about pictures of the bottom of the car? Thanks.
