Representing the most powerful R107 SL-Class roadster sold in the U.S. during its production run, this 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL is powered by a 5.5-liter V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in Signal Red over Palomino leather upholstery, this example comes equipped with a black soft top, a body-color removable hardtop, fog lights, polished 15” Gullideckel alloy wheels, power windows, automatic climate control, cruise control, and more. Showing less than 26k miles on the odometer, this 560SL is now being offered for auction out of New York.
This example is finished in Signal Red and features a black convertible soft top and a body-color removable hardtop. Exterior details include quad headlamps, fog lights, and brightwork along the window trim and bumpers. The 15” Gullideckel alloy wheels are said to have been chrome-plated shortly after the initial delivery and come dressed in Goodyear tires from 2019. Inside, the cabin is appointed with Palomino leather complemented by wood trim. Accessories include a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, a center armrest, power windows, automatic climate control, cruise control, an alarm system, and a Becker AM/FM/cassette stereo. A mileage inconsistency is noted on the CARFAX report, which the seller confirms as a clerical error.
Power comes from a 5.6-liter M117 V8 engine factory-rated at 227 HP and 279 lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller would like you to know: “The Mercedes-Benz window sticker printout lists factory equipment, colors, options, and a total suggested retail price of $64,770.00. A stamped maintenance logbook, all original books, manuals, keys, tools, spare tire, hard top, and hard top stand, along with several years of service history, are all included in the sale.
The CARFAX report shows no accidents or other damage and lists the registration history back to 11/17/98. The Carfax shows a clerical entry error on 7/11/24. The service advisor entered 24,614 instead of 25,614. All historical records and documents prove that the mileage is original and accurate and support the claim that the entry was an error.
The car presents itself incredibly well with a mirror shine and no dents, dings, or scratches. No curb rash or pitting on the wheels. Interior shows as new. Everything functions properly as when it was new. The car drives as it did when new as well. This 560SL was part of a large collection and was recently purchased for my wife, who drove it approximately 120 total miles over the past several months. She is used to driving a large modern SUV and feels she won’t drive it enough to warrant keeping it. She would love for someone to truly enjoy it and appreciate its stellar condition, which it has been kept in for the past 37 years.”
