Mercedes’ original Geländewagen, the W460 G-Class, was assembled almost entirely by hand in Graz, Austria. It features triple-locking differentials and rugged body-on-frame construction that established the G-Class as one of the most capable 4x4s of all time. This 1988 Mercedes-Benz W460 280GE is a rare short-wheelbase example finished in Astral Silver Metallic over black leather upholstery. Imported from Spain upon the seller’s acquisition, this early G-wagon is now being offered for auction out of Florida.
This example is finished in Astral Silver Metallic (9735) and contrasted with a black front grille, front skid plate, rubberized trim, fender flares, and steel bumpers. Other equipment includes front fog lights, a rear-mounted full-size spare tire, and a single exhaust system. The seller adds that the slotted steel wheels will be refinished in black in preparation for the sale.
The cabin is trimmed in black upholstery, spanning the seats, dashboard, door panel, and four-spoke steering wheel. Amenities include heat-insulated glass, a rear defroster, power windows, and an aftermarket head unit with Bluetooth connectivity. Metric instrumentation consists of a 180-KPH speedometer, a 100x/per minute 7k-RPM tachometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary dials for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure.
The 280GE is powered by an M110.994 2.7L inline-six, factory-rated at 156 HP and 167 lb.-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission and a full-time all-wheel-drive system with high and low ranges. Electronic locking differentials are also equipped at the drivetrain's front, rear, and center. Upon importation to the United States, this vehicle reportedly received an AC system retrofit to comply with U.S. regulations for Freon gas, along with a full maintenance service.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “I wanted to buy this car to renew and use it as my daily driver, but I had no time at all, and it is in perfect condition for the age; I’d rather have someone who really appreciates it to drive it.”

Hello sir
Is it possible to have a look on the car before bidding ?
I am in Miami
Thanks
@tegwj It didn’t came with any type of alarm remote control and I honestly never tried to find it so for the alarm I clueless.
As for the kms I also have no idea and I have no contact with the previous owner, the only thing I know about him in Spain is that he collected G wagons and old classic MB.
Ok. Didn't know about the alarm, do you know if the wiring in the dash (or anywhere else) has been cut or modified to install it? Is there a remote on the key? Is there a way to get a picture of the alarm control unit somehow?
If you have any records from the original owner in Spain to validate the 29k kilometers that would also be very helpful as it's unusually low. Thank you!
@tegwj nothing leaking, everything is working 100%, it does NOT have power lock nor keyless entry and also the alarm was aftermarket installed by the original owner but that’s the only thing that doesn’t work or I never understood how to get it to work.
Sorry one other thing, does this one have power locks and keyless entry?
Thanks. Any issues with the diff locks? Leaking seals? I believe they’re hydraulic on this generation so weeping lines etc? Looks like it has heated seats too, also working correctly in all positions?
@tegwj Unfortunately I’m out of town and can’t take the videos but all the electrical works perfect, windows and mirrors are working as expected, AC is original and works perfect as well as all the lights .
There is no rust anywhere, my initial intentions where to make it more off-road looking, install roof rack, ladder, sorrel, lift the suspension, etc. but I travel too much and just didn’t do anything so it is in its original condition the same as I purchased it from the original buyer in Spain.
Can we get more closeups of the typical rust spots? Videos of power windows and all the other electrical and hydraulic accessories all working, what had you identified that needed renewing and would have taken too much time?
Got a chuckle from the Star on the front grille..
