Mercedes’ original Geländewagen, the W460 G-Class was assembled almost entirely by hand in Graz, Austria. The 200GE version was only offered in the Italian market, equipped with a unique 2.0-liter M102.964 four-cylinder due to taxation of larger displacement engines. This 1988 Cabriolet is presented in special-order Anthracite Grey Metallic over brown Tartan cloth interior and was additionally ordered with front and rear locking differentials, a heavy-duty battery, headrests for the front seats, a 13.5-liter auxiliary fuel tank, and front towing coupling. It was initially registered in Milan and is said to have received new tires, Bilstein shocks, and service of the steering system, fuel injection, and front axle before being imported to the United States in 2020. Said to be one of just 610 examples produced in total and only 88 built for the model year, this 1988 200GE is now being offered at auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania.
The exterior is finished in special-order Anthracite Grey Metallic (172U) with a black fabric soft top. Equipment includes front and rear steel bumpers, a front tow coupling, a swing-out covered rear tire carrier, headlight guards, black rubberized moldings, a rear tow hitch, and a side-exit exhaust. The seller reports some light scratches throughout the body and a rust bubble located on the rear driver’s side. Detailed images are provided along with a clean CARFAX report. The 16” five-spoke wheels were mounted with Ziarelli Cruiser off-road tires in 2020.
The cabin is trimmed in brown leather with brown Tartan inserts on the front seats and rear folding bench seat. Amenities include heat-absorbing glass, a central locking system, luggage nets on the seat backs, a passenger-side grab handle, a heater, headrests for driver and passenger, and reading lamps. An inclinometer has been mounted to the dashboard under previous ownership as well as an aftermarket radio and speakers. The seller notes that one of the dashboard lights is currently not functioning.
The 200GE is powered by a 2.0-liter M102.964 four-cylinder with Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection, factory rated at 134 HP and 131 lb.-ft of torque. All four wheels are driven by a manual transmission. Features include front and rear locking differentials, a heavy-duty battery, and a 13.5-liter auxiliary fuel tank. In March of 2020, this 200GE received new tires, new Bilstein shocks, and a rebuild of the steering system, fuel injection system, and front axle. The wiring looms, fuel lines and brake pads were serviced as well.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, and some service documentation.

@38ZFX For me, no, it was not that bad.
I know it’s loud but I mean like flopping sound from the top being loose?
@38ZFX That is a very subjective opinion based on what you would think is or is not. I have had it on the Interstate with windows up and it was not overly loud to me. Video of me driving had windows down and going upwards of 50mph.
Does the top make a lot of noise when cruising 65-70?

@RicePark The G Wagen is extremely clean overall. I do have many more detailed photos of top off and undercarriage that I can send via email. Let me know if you want anything.

5 speed manual
Will get other photos uploaded
@Mrosilio I have uploaded so Pcarmarket can add to auction.
Cool truck! Could you provide some close-up photos of:
-the body around the windshield
-underneath the taillights
-shock mounts
-General underbody
-rocker panels
- would be nice to see floorboards / pinch weld under the door seals if possible. -you’d have to remove carpeting / plastic step trim
Looks to be very clean. How are the vibrations in the transfer case shift lever when you’re at highway speeds? Is this a 4 speed transmission or 5? Do you have the import / customs paperwork?
Sorry for the bombardment, like to be thorough.
@Mrosilio Yes, I will do that this weekend time permitting.
Can we get a cold start and driving video?
Thanks
