Produced in collaboration between MAN SE and Volkswagen, this 1988 MAN G90 FAE 4x4 is reported to be a retired Danish Military vehicle. Upon the seller’s acquisition in 2020, this example was imported for personal use and has undergone a host of cosmetic and mechanical upgrades including a refinish in Squirrel Gray, a drivetrain refurbishment, the fuel injection pump rebuilt and tuned, and several additional items. An extremely capable and versatile utility vehicle, it is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.
This short wheelbase 4x4 is said to have been professionally stripped and refinished in Squirrel Gray as part of the restoration, which also included the installation of LED lighting, custom roof canvas, and a modified spare tire carrier. The chassis, bumpers, fenders, mirrors, and roof rack have been painted black, and a set of matching custom 20” Hutchinson 2-piece aluminum beadlock wheels have been mounted with Michelin XZL tires. The chassis, bumpers, and fenders have been finished in black.
The cabin presents black upholstery with black/grey cloth seat inserts, rubber floor mats, a grey headliner, and green-finished door panels which hark back to the vehicle's original color. Equipment includes seating for three, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, climate controls, drivetrain controls, and passenger-side grab handles.
This MAN equips a 6-cylinder diesel engine generating as much as 150 HP, allowing for a top speed of approximately 75 MPH. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission and locking front, middle, and rear differentials. The seller adds that a host of service items were carried out throughout the past 2 years, including the drivetrain refurbished, all fluids and filters changed, the fuel injection pump rebuilt and tuned, injectors modified to compensate for extra fueling, timing tuned to assist fueling, and all wiring sorted according to original diagrams. Equipment includes front/middle/rear differential locks. The seller states there are currently no outstanding maintenance items.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “I imported and started the rebuild process of this rig a little over 2 years ago with the intention of turning it into a camper. I concentrated on the mechanical side 1st. I completed the refurbishment and have now run out of time and space to complete the camper part. I have too many projects at the moment and would love to see someone either use it as it is with the canopy and fold-down sides or build an actual camper box on the rear bed. It's super fun to drive and can go anywhere you point it. It has around a 400-mile range at 55-60mph.”

I had a 4Wheel Camper "Granby" "Fleet" tray-back all picked out too. All the measurements fit and leaves you room in the front under the overhang to put tall locker boxes or even a "moto" and still be able to lift the cab.
Perfect candidate for an expedition/overland rig.
Unimog quality @ 1/3 the price and no silly portal boxes to deal with.

How long is the bed inside to inside?
Nobody has any questions...?

@2017Holden
1) No DEF and no computers. Everything is mechanical.
2) The hoops and the canvas are easily removed so you can have a "pick-up" style bed or you can fold down the 3 sides and they slide off so you can have a complete "flatbed". The "flatbed" would be real easy to load a prebuilt camper(4Wheel Camper
tray-back style) onto and then remove it later if you needed the truck haul stuff.
3) Zero issues starting in cold weather
4) The spare tire can be lowered/raised by a toddler. Super simple design. A geared hand-crank winds one way raise and the opposite to lower.

Does it require DEF? Can the framing for the canvas top be removed from the bed so you have access to all sides of the bed? Does it have a problem starting in cold winter conditions? What's involved in removing the spare tire?
Thanks

Well good morning everyone and welcome to the final few hours of the our auction. I wanted to let everyone know that is watching, bidding, and possibly bidding that I WILL let you know when the reserve is met. I hate it when an auction is really exciting and goes right up to the end and then no one actually wins it because the reserve was not met. I will be watching this closely and might even lower the reserve to keep things fun and interesting. Good luck today and happy bidding.

It has the "2 windows down 55MPH model a/c unit installed."
No it does not have AC.
Does it have AC?
Good morning and Happy Tuesday!
I hope everyone had a fun and safe holiday weekend.
To answer some questions I have received...
1) My Insurance policy is around $1000 annually for $300K coverage thru "Progressive Commercial".
2) It only takes 1 person to lift the cab and is very simple. You pull 2 release levers and it starts to go up on its own(torsion bar springs).
3) The ride quality is actually really nice. I think due to how long the leaf springs are is why. It's similar to a VW vanagon of the 80's or even the "Baywindow" bus of the 70's. My Unimog doesn't ride as nice as this and it has coil springs.
4) I wouldn't hesitate to jump in it and drive across the country tomorrow(as long as I had plenty of time to answer people's questions everytime I stopped somewhere).
Hope that helps and please let me know if you have more questions.
