This 1988 Land Rover Defender 90 was imported to the United States from Palermo, Sicily in May of 2020 after receiving a frame-off restoration that included a repaint in BMW Imola Red II, a new mohair soft top, a NAS-style roll cage, a rebuild of the engine, and refurbishment of the interior, suspension, and braking system. The refreshed 2.5 turbodiesel inline-four is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case. Modifications include a 2” Terrafirma lift kit, polyurethane suspension bushings, and 16” aftermarket wheels with mud tires. Now showing approximately 164k kilometers (102k miles) on the odometer and with just over 2,500 driven since the restoration, this Defender 90 is being offered at auction by its seller out of New York.
The frame-off restoration included new BMW Imola Red II (405) paint following the installation of a new hood, grille, front fenders, rear tailgate, and doors. The chassis was sandblasted, acid-dipped, and galvanized to prevent future corrosion. A Safety Devices NAS-style roll cage has been fitted as well as black fender flares, black side steps, a swing-out rear tire carrier, and black diamond-plate trim on the rocker panels, rear bumper, and the tops of the front fenders. A new black mohair soft top was also installed in addition to new glass and clear turn signals. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. This Defender rides on black 16” five-spoke Boost wheels mounted with Comforser CF3000 mud tires. A matching full-size spare is also mounted to the rear carrier.
The interior is trimmed in new black vinyl upholstery with a matching dashboard, replacement door panels, and a locking center console with integrated cupholders. The cargo area is equipped with folding jump seats upholstered in matching black vinyl, with a rubber floormat and matching carpeting. The interior includes manually-adjustable seats, roll-up windows, rubber floor mats, safety belts for the two front seats, and lap belts for the rear jump seats.
This Defender 90 is powered by a refreshed 2.5L turbodiesel inline-four cylinder engine including a rebuilt turbocharger and a new exhaust system, fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel lines, and injectors. The engine was factory rated at 85 HP and 150 lb.-ft of torque, sent to the rear or all four wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission with a replacement clutch, a selectable four-wheel-drive system, and a dual-range transfer case. The seller reports that the transmission and transfer case have been rebuilt, as well as the steering system and axles.
This sale will include a clean title.

@hudd07 Thank you for your kind comment - we agree!
This has to be one of thee nicest interiors I’ve seen on a Defender. So clean and simple. I hope you don’t mind but I saved a couple photos to try to attempt to match this on my 130. GREAT JOB on this 90
Hello Bidders. Good luck as we get close to the final 24 hours. We took the 88 Defender out yesterday and got some videos filmed. Below is a Youtube Playlist link which contains two driving videos, a walk around video, an engine bay tour, and an underbody walk around. We can assure you that driving this Defender is like driving a brand new Defender. Even though it's gone only 2500 miles since restoration it appears as a new truck and drives like a new truck.
Also - it is worth mentioning that the reserve has been met, and this Land Rover will sell to the highest bidder. Good luck everyone
