Successor to the iconic Jaguar E-Type, the XJ-S model was offered as Jaguar’s flagship grand tourer, designed by Malcolm Sayer and produced in Coventry, England, from 1975 until 1996. The car received a facelift in 1981 with revised styling and a new “HE” high-efficiency V12 with a “Fire Ball” combustion chamber. This 1988 Jaguar XJ-S Convertible is finished in Dorchester Grey Metallic over Savile Grey leather upholstery and is equipped with a 3-speed automatic transmission paired with its 5.3-liter V12 engine. Purchased by the seller earlier in 2024, this Jaguar is now being offered for auction with approximately 23k miles showing on the odometer.
The XJ-S was originally designed by Malcolm Sayer and underwent facelift styling revisions for the 1981 model year by Geoff Lawson. This example is finished in Dorchester Grey Metallic (LDP) with a grey convertible top and matching boot cover. Equipment includes quad headlamps, fog lights, a front air dam, chrome-accented bumpers, chrome wheel arch trim, dual chrome mirrors, a polished external fuel cap, an automatic antenna, dual exhaust outlets, and silver-finished 15” cross-spoke alloy wheels. New Yokohama tires were mounted in 2024 within the last 100 miles. The seller notes the driver’s side fog light lens is broken. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, Savile Grey leather (LDY) is complemented by matching carpets and burl wood veneers spanning the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Accessories include a black two-spoke steering wheel, power-adjustable seats, polished door sills, power windows and mirrors, air conditioning, cruise control, a digital clock, and an AM/FM cassette stereo. A crack is noted on the wood trim.
Rated at 262 HP and 290 lb.-ft of torque, the 5.3-liter V12 engine sends power to the rear wheels through a 3-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Stopping power comes from disc brakes at all four corners. Under the seller’s ownership, the fuel pump was replaced, and the fuel tank was cleaned.
This sale will include an air pump, a battery charger, sales literature, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Beautiful low mileage example. The car drives like a dream. Has few blemishes here and there, like any other older car.”
