Developed as a homologation model to meet Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) production requirements, this 1988 BMW E30 M3 is one of approximately 5,300 units produced for the North American market from 1987 to 1990. It has undergone a comprehensive restoration, featuring a Satin Black refinish protected with a Dakar Yellow vinyl wrap over M Technic Cloth interior upholstery. Power is derived from a Turner Motorsports 2.5-liter stroker S14 engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, while additional equipment includes 17" BBS LM wheels, a custom exhaust system, and more. This E30 M3 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.
Compared to the standard E30 3-Series, the M3 features entirely unique body panels, with only the hood and roof shared between the two models. It is distinguishable by its flared fenders, model-specific bumpers and rocker panels, and signature fixed rear wing. Originally finished in Lachs Silver, this example has been refinished in Satin Black as part of a comprehensive restoration and is protected by a Dakar Yellow vinyl wrap. Exterior details include a sunroof, integrated front fog lights, black-finished side mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets. It rides on aftermarket 17” BBS LM wheels wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with an accident-free CARFAX report.
Inside, the front sports seats, rear bench, and door panels have been outfitted with M Technic cloth upholstery. Equipment includes manually-adjustable front seats, a three-spoke M-Tech I steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, an onboard computer, air conditioning, cruise control, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, power windows, mirrors, and locks. All gauges and electronics are reported to be in proper working order with no warning lights illuminated.
Power comes from a rebuilt S14 DOHC inline-four engine with a Turner Motorsports 2.5-liter displacement upgrade kit, which delivers power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. During its restoration process, it received a custom exhaust system, an oil service, new shocks with lowering springs, brake lines, a new radiator, new brakes (pads and rotors), and all rubber items (gaskets, lines) replaced.
This sale will include a toolkit, a spare tire, a battery charger, and a clean title. The CARFAX report notes a potential odometer rollback.
