Available for auction at no reserve is this 1998 Bentley Eight finished in black over a beige leather interior. Built upon the Rolls Royce SZ platform which it shares with numerous models including the Rolls Royce Corniche and Silver Spirit and the Bentley Mulsanne and Brooklands. The Bentley Eight represented the brand's entry-level model and upon its introduction in 1984 was offered with cloth upholstery, steel wheels, and a unique mesh grill. This example comes equipped with a naturally aspirated 6.75L V8, power-adjustable front seats with position memory, automatic climate control, burl wood trim, an upgraded sound system, and more. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Philadelphia while showing just over 121k miles on its odometer.

The SZ-based Bentley Eight shares bodywork with the contemporary Rolls Royce Silver Spirit and is constructed with pressed steel body panels. This example is finished in black with beige pinstriping and comes equipped with a chrome-trimmed mesh grill. The bodywork shows several minor imperfections including a small dent in the driver’s side front fender. Detailed images can be found in the gallery. It rides on a set of 15” alloy wheels dressed in a set of Cooper Trendsetter SE whitewall tires.

The cabin features beige stitched leather upholstery throughout with contrasting piping on the seating surfaces. Burl wood trim accents the door panels, dashboard, and center console, and black cut-pile wool carpeting with beige binding covers the floors. Amenities include power-adjustable front seats with position memory, automatic climate control, power windows and locks, and an upgraded sound system with a Kenwood radio head unit. Normal wear can be seen throughout the cabin and the seller confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain functional with the exception of the rear passenger window.

Power comes from Bentley’s renowned 6.75L V8 with Bosch MK-Motronic fuel injection. While Bentley never officially released output figures, period publications quoted 220 HP with 300 lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a GM-sourced TH400 3-speed automatic transmission. Compared to the more expensive Mulsanne, the Eight offered a firmer suspension which resulted in improved handling characteristics. The seller confirms that there are no outstanding service items to note at this time.

This sale will include a clean title.

@Khan1984 if you only need to add Freon then why not just do it and not have any excuses.

  • Khan1984 (seller) 1 year, 11 monthsago

@82turboruf maybe they took the original speaker out because there is nothing missing. For the A/C you need to add freeon, and no there isn't any leaks

@Markme built standard to the Eight was a standard non-mesh grill and single plain lights. Many were updated. You dont't like to comment the rest of my questions? Why?

  • 82turboruf (registered bidder) 1 year, 11 monthsago

What is missing on the driver inside door above the speaker? Do the climate control/AC work as it should? Any leaks anywhere?

@mikeammain The Wire mesh grille was original to most Eights. The standard wood trim was straight grain walnut, as on this car, not burl as fitted to the Turbo R. I believe the headlights for US market cars were four rectangular units. This car has been upgraded with the Euro headlamps. I believe the wheels on this car are of a later type than what was on these cars when new.

pls send pictures of the drivers door manufacturer VIN plates and from underside. The mesh grill is updated. The rear speakers are updated as the door speakers and the head unit are. The high glossy veneer isn't original. Any oil leaks reported? Air suspension and brakes working correctly? Thanks

@jessem Thank you for bringing this to our attention, we have contacted the seller and updated the listing description accordingly.

This isn't a Turbo R. Look at the engine. It's an Eight with Turbo R badges. Might want to correct the write-up.
