With its front-engine coupe configuration, distinctive pop-up headlights, and glass rear hatch, the 944 model remains one of the most iconic sports cars of the 1980s. Equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, this 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo was factory-specified in Guards Red and features an optional limited-slip differential, side protection moldings, cruise control, and more. Showing less than 85k miles on the odometer, this meticulously maintained 944 Turbo is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

This 944 can be identified as a Turbo model by its aerodynamically enhanced front nose with integrated fog lights and a body-colored diffuser beneath the rear bumper. Finished in Guards Red, it rides on 16” Phone Dial wheels dressed in Bridgestone Potenza tires. Features include side protection moldings, headlamp washers, and an electrically operated & detachable roof panel. The seller notes one missing wheel center cap, and the rear windshield wiper has been removed. Minor wear consistent with age is present, including hardly noticeable dents on the underside of the front side fenders due to improper jacking under prior ownership. A full paint correction was completed about one month ago, and detailed images are available in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin sports Black partial leather upholstery with color-coordinating floor mats. Equipment includes a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, cruise control, power windows, and an upgraded Pioneer head unit with aftermarket speakers. The seller notes a small tear on the front left bolster of the driver’s seat, a crack on the dashboard, and a non-functioning horn.

Power comes from a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four engine factory-rated at 220 HP. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transmission with an optional limited-slip differential. Recent maintenance includes new belts, steering rack, fuel pressure damper and fuel lines, radiator switch, distributor cap and distributor, ignition wire set, spark plugs, and balance shaft and serpentine belts. The original Brembo brakes are paired with slotted rotors up front and drilled and slotted rotors at the rear for enhanced cooling.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This car was babied throughout my ownership. I spent countless hours working on this car, replacing everything. The car is so amazing to drive, it’s so well balanced, and the shift experience is amazing. The tactile experience of all the buttons and hearing the door latches is definitely something I’ll miss. I’m selling this car because I’ll be transferring to a new college, and I need to pay tuition on my own. I'm using the money from this car to cover my tuition and dorm expenses. Cars have been my passion ever since I was young, and taking care of them is an even bigger passion. I would clean this car every week and still do. Always respected the warm-up of the car (drive around and let the oil pressure come down, that’s how you know it’s warm enough!). The car, even with previous owners, was garaged most of its life. The car is completely stock, except for the head unit and speakers. There is a small crack in the windshield which will be replaced once the car is sold. Thank you so much for reviewing the listing. Have a good time, and to the next owner, enjoy the car; it’s one of the greatest underrated Porsches out there. Congratulations, you’ve got a great one!”

@montecarlobeach thank you! I agree with all of this is what I’ve been saying since the day I bought it. It’s such a great driving car for the price. I had once read that they had to turn down the power on these because on a track they started to be faster than Porsches at the time new 911’s. I appreciate you commenting! Good luck with bidding if you bid and thank you for the comment again. Have a good day : )

Seems to be a great car. Lately, I hear a lot of enthusiasts bemoaning the high/rising price of Porsche cars. These same people seem to neglect some amazing values in the Porsche lineup. The 914s, 944s, and 968s represent sensational opportunities to enjoy superior driving experiences that generally won't break the bank. Just as the 914/6 represents the pinnacle of the model, the turbo is the best of the very good 944 lot. I'd be very happy with this car as a break from the usual bland commute. Good luck, seller and buyer.

@Artzco Yes. Just one. Most 944 Dashes that I've seen have way more cracking. This one's relatively uncracked compared to most 944's.

It appears to have a large crack in the dash near the windshield…?

Just to let everyone know the video with the car wash. I did not use the brush I just put the soap on it so no scratches!

@puchoboy I would be fine with the PPI as the car is in good condition and there would be nothing to be flagged as concern.

I would be fine with PPI as the car is in good condition and I’m not worried.

@ginoginelli yes indeed! Prices are already rising as on BAT there’s a couple that have now sold over MSRP when they were sold.

  • ginoginelli 5 days, 18 hoursago

Iconic car I had one and it looks like most of the typical issues of the 944 turbo were taken care of which means thousands of dollars and a buyer won’t have to spend to address them. If the 944 Turbo follows the path of the 911 turbo today prices are a bargain.. also considering that the numbers of 944 turbo produced is was lower than 911’s

Hi everyone, My name is Umberto. I am the current owner of the car. I’m willing to answer all questions and concerns! I’m excited to see how this auction goes and am excited to see this car go to a new owner. I love this car but I’m ready to see it go to someone else. Thank you so much and let’s see what happens!
