The flagship Porsche 944 model of its day, this 1987 Turbo comes finished in Guards Red over tan leather upholstery. Since the seller’s acquisition approximately two years ago, this Turbo has received extensive service items along with upgrades, including a Lindsey Racing performance chip, M030 sway bars, a K&N air filter, Koni shocks, upgraded brakes, KLA strut components, Paragon coilovers, an aftermarket exhaust, and more. Showing approximately 103k miles on the odometer, this example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Illinois.
Compared to a standard 944, the Turbo model features a more aerodynamically refined nose and a body-colored rear diffuser. Finished in Guards Red, this example rides on bronze powder-coated 16” Phone Dial wheels wrapped in like-new Firestone Firehawk Indy500 tires from 2022. Equipment also includes headlight washers, a sunroof, and tinted windows. The seller adds that a meticulous detail was recently performed along with some dent removal. Imperfections include minor touched-up rock chips, a scratch on the rear quarter panel, and a slight ding above the left rear wheel. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing moderate damage in May 1997.
The interior features tan leather upholstery complemented by matching carpets, with black accents adorning the dashboard, steering wheel, center console, and door tops. Black floor mats with Porsche lettering have also been added. Notable equipment includes automatic speed control, a central locking system, an aftermarket head unit, and Rennline pedal covers. A detail has been performed, and the seller notes a small tear and some seam pulling on the passenger seat, two minor cracks on the dashboard, and some wear on the shifter and the top of the steering wheel. The emergency brake warning light is illuminated due to the removal of the brake wear sensors, and the airbag light is on as the airbags have been disabled.
Power comes from a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine generating as much as 220 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. Modifications include a Lindsey Racing chip, M030 sway bars, a K&N air filter, aftermarket exhaust (manufacturer unknown), Koni shocks, KLA strut mounts, KLA strut tower brace, a Paragon front coilover kit, and a Steering Solutions manual steering rack, with the original power steering rack and parts included with the sale. The seller adds that service has included a timing belt, water pump, distributor, cap, and rotor replacement in 2020, followed by a clutch and flywheel replacement in 2021, as well as an oil pan gasket, battery replacement, Zimmerman slotted rotors and Bosch Blue pads installed in 2022. The car also received new Koni shocks, a manual steering rack, alignment, clutch slave cylinder, and rear cam housing gasket in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, both left and right axle shafts with CV joints were replaced.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a tool kit, a spare tire, an air pump, a power steering rack with assembly items, and the original computer chip.
The seller would like you to know: “Welcome to my auction. I had my first 944 when I was 16, albeit a naturally aspirated model. I always wanted a Turbo model, and 25 years later, I was able to find one locally. I am the fourth owner, and I've spent the past two years maintaining this car and making small changes to improve its performance, all while trying to preserve its stock appeal. The car handles very well, and the Turbo provides the extra power to make back roads enjoyable. It's amazing how well a 37-year-old Porsche drives. Like many owners, I have an opportunity to purchase another car I've always wanted, and with limited storage, this car has to be sold. If you're looking for a near-stock Turbo that's been thoughtfully cared for and can be enjoyed, this is one to consider.”

Awesome!
@flat6club Good news, AC has been repaired, and now blows cold air, receipt for repairs will be included.
@Merlinextralight , yes it was done at the same time, a receipt for that work will be included
Sorry, just saw the timing belt on the CArfax. Do you know if the replaced the water pump at the same time?
Bid in the amount of $7,250
Do you know if, and when, the timing belt and water pump were replaced?
Thank you, I will have driving videos shortly. The power steering is a weak link with 944s. I had a rebuilt PS rack in the car, then the PS pump went out, I replaced that then the PS rack went out. I like to eliminate things that can take away from me being able to drive my cars. The manual rack feels great and was specifically designed for this car.
Thanks, cold start looks good. Why did you install the manual steering rack? Just curious if this is common on these cars as I’m coming from the 911 world and haven’t seen it.
The header and exhaust are not Lindsey Racing. The stock chip will also be provided with the car.
I have an appointment Thursday morning to get the AC inspected to see what is needed to get it to blow cold
@flat6club thank you, there are no oil leaks. I’m not sure what would be needed to get the ac operating but it seems to be a common question so I’ll look into it. The air coming out of the vents is cool but not cold. As far as the exhaust I’m not sure if it’s Lindsey as well, the chip/exhaust came with the car from the previous owner. I’m going to reach out to Lindsey to try and confirm. The header looks newer and the exhaust looks like 3” all the way back with no cat. I have the cat and it will come with the car.
Nice car! I have a few questions @g1331: Any oil leaks? Any idea what the AC needs?
This car has a Lindsey Racing chip, any idea if it has other parts from their turbo kits? Exhaust, etc?
@shlurton the wires just need to be reconnected, the airbags are not physically removed from the vehicle. As for the AC I’ve never looked into why it currently isn’t working. I don’t know if it’s a recharge or something else, sorry.
Do you know what it would take to get the A/C working again and the airbags hooked back up? Thanks!
Thank you for visiting my auction. I will be posting cold start, running and driving videos shortly, as soon as the weather cooperates. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions and I will try to respond promptly. Happy bidding!!
