Available for auction is this 1987 Porsche 928 S4 track car finished in Dark Blue Metallic. Under the care of its previous owner, an aircraft engineer, no expense was spared in extensively upgrading this 928 for track use before it was acquired by the seller earlier in 2022. The 5.0-liter V8 engine has been upgraded to produce approximately 600 HP thanks to a ProCharger D-1SC supercharger, Bosch 42 lb. fuel injectors, a custom cooling system, an Electromotive Tec-3 ECU, and more. The body’s aerodynamics have been improved while track performance modifications have also been made to the cabin, driveline, brakes, and suspension. Previously listed on PCARMARKET, this 928 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Wisconsin with approximately 33 hours since the completion of the build.

The body of this 928 wears a Dark Blue Metallic finish and has been extensively modified with splitters, wings, cooling ducts, and more. All four-wheel arches were trimmed and fitted with bolt-on flares to accommodate larger tires. Louvers have been added to both the front fenders and hood and provide airflow to a large oil cooler and side wing radiators. The headlights have been removed to create additional airflow and all air inlets and outlets including front bumper openings have been covered with a stainless-steel wire grating. The seller notes the finish shows minor chips and has provided a collection of images for reference in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. Additional modifications include custom steel underbody skid plates, a custom engine bay skid plate, a custom front splitter, a mechanically adjustable carbon fiber rear wing, an aluminum sunroof delete plate, pinned hood and rear hatch locks, a single driver-side windshield wiper, slim profile side mirrors, and a Lexan rear window. It rides on a set of modular race wheels dressed in a set of racing slicks, however, the seller notes that a total of 25 tires and 12 mounted wheels will accompany the car including a new set of racing slicks, a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires mounted on yellow wheels, a set of Toyo R888 mounted on Fuchs style wheels, a set of Continental rain racing tires, and others.

The cabin has been completely stripped and painted black to accommodate additional motorsport equipment while also saving weight. Features include a full weld-in roll cage, a Lifeline fire suppression system, two Kirkey racing seats with RJS 5-point racing harnesses, removable Lexan door windows, a short throw solid ball mount shifter linkage, a MOMO flat-bottom alcantara removable steering wheel, a Roadkeeper two-camera video and data logging system, and a hard mounted tablet and hard mount for a removable laptop. A suite of aftermarket instrumentation has been installed as seen in the photo gallery. The original adjustable gauge pod has been retained and is noted to show a small crack.

Power comes from a 32-valve 5.0-liter V8 engine that has been extensively upgraded with a custom-mounted ProCharger D-1SC centrifugal supercharger, a large custom Mishimoto air-to-air intercooler, pre and post-intercoolers, and a 13.5-quart oil capacity. An estimated 600 crank horsepower (525 WHP) is sent to the rear wheels by way of a rebuilt and upgraded 5-speed manual transaxle equipped with a carbon fiber racing clutch, an 8-plate limited-slip differential, Aeroquip lines, Tilton pump, and upgraded cooler and fan. A spin-on filter was also added for the transmission fluid along with pressure and temperature gauges. Other engine and driveline upgrades include a fully wrapped custom 3” stainless steel dual exhaust, an Electromotive Tec 3 dual-ignition electronic control system and ECU unit, Bosch 42 lb. fuel injectors, a custom cooling system with three radiators and an additional electric water pump, a 3-quart Accu-sump engine oil supplement system, an extended capacity oil pan, a Porsche GT2 oil cooler, a transaxle oil cooler, and more. The suspension has been upgraded with Bilstein adjustable coilovers, adjustable sway bar end links, and a custom 3-piece frame cross member, while the original brake calipers were rebuilt, and stainless-steel brake lines were installed. The transmission has been rebuilt and a Gates long-life racing timing belt was installed 33 engine hours ago. The seller notes a louder interchangeable exhaust pipe also accompanies the sale.

This sale will include additional wheels and tires, three binders documenting the build, racing logs, and a clean title.

Good job - I tried to bid but somehow was unable to. Congrats Rreind1!!

John here the seller of the car I just want to say to anybody bidding good luck, you are not going to regret the purchase initially or down the road. This car WILL run circles around most 911 racecars, and w superior reliability and balance and aero and build thoroughness the winning bidder will be very happy and then some. To get this much development and top of the line engineering and safety combined with the gorgeous looks and purposeful design inside out and under anywhere near this price range is awesome, $80k to build plus endless hours in design and development only 33 hours ago plus more than the current high bid in just wheels and tires represents extreme value. I absolutely want to keep the car but unfortunately other financial considerations force my hand. I am happy to have had it and driven it on the track, I will be available to the winning bidder after the sale for sure and will remain interested in the car forever, when finances allow I would absolutely want to buy it back someday, no other 928 I have seen is as comprehensively engineered and built, have you seen a better built one? ? Thanks and again good luck

@KRMartin928 Thanks for your responses. (You're welcome) To clarify:
    1. Are there Catalytic Converters? Yes or no? (No, just a crossover X pipe right after the headers)
    2. Are there mufflers (even if non-stock) in front of the rear axle. Looks like it from the "bulges" in the muffler heat wrap. Just want to make sure - yes or no. I know a Rear Muffler delete (with the straight pipes you mentioned) would make it too loud for my 103 dB track so I would not use that :-).....(yes mid mufflers before the axle, actually good sized Resonators to use the correct term)
    3. One video mentioned "windows" - I thought it said "slide in"? Are these typical racing type plastic or Lexan windows that fit in for transport or storage or are they something else? (They are Lexan, they have permanently attached stainless cables w stainless pull pins that locate them securely. You could use them for transport or for improved aero on high speed tracks , I did not use them when I took it to Blackhawk Farms)

Do not hesitate to ask me any further questions, I will answer any questions no problem. Hope my responses helped, if you want Cats for road use certainly high flow cats could be added although at 35 years old (actually 20yrs I think) I believe they become exempt (?) A classic blue plate would be the best, never needs new stickers etc... And matches the car color too ?

@KRMartin928 bid w confidence, the ad is COMPLETELY current and accurate, car is turn key and amazing on track and then some, very special car, you will be happy the day you get it and years later, no surprises.

@KRMartin928 Five questions to review please: (see my responses in parenthesis after each of your questions below)
    1. Did you remove the yellow wrap & all the stickers from this car or was that done by "JPD" prior to your purchase? ( I did not remove it)
    2. Have you driven this car on the track yourself? (Yes, last month at Blackhawk Farms as seen in the track videos and the walk-around where I said I was at Blackhawk)
    3. Why are you selling it after such a short ownership? (Financial considerations w my investments, car has ZERO issues if that is where you are headed w this?)
    4. The wrapped exhaust system looks nice. It appears the cats, front mufflers and rear muffler are all intact (and sounded fairly quiet in your walk around videos). Any idea what sound level it produces? My track needs to be below 103 dB. (It is not stock exhaust anywhere from headers to tailpipes, the car is not LOUD as is at all and though I do not have a DB meter reading my sincere guess is you will have zero issue meeting any tracks sound restrictions as is that being said if you install the other supplies straight pipes w tips it will be louder but w mids still not over the top but I have not heard the straight pipes so this is my best guess)
    5. When this car was previously listed it was shown that it would be sold with a bill of sale. Yet you state this car now has a title and is street legal or registered. Details please? (I never said it was registered, however it does have a title and can be driven on the street if you take the title and go to your DMV, I have not done that and I have a street driven supercharged 928GT for that, it has brake lights and hand signals, no headlights currently no heater no a/c)

@Rreind1 yes I have a clear title I have not operated on the roads of Wisconsin as a road going vehicle so I haven't titled it I can however it's not required under those circumstances but yes you can title it and drive it on the road if any clarification is needed don't hesitate to ask the title is currently Michigan and clear

  • Rreind1 (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

Great looking car. Do you have a title for it? Is it a Wisconsin title?

  • 928928skiing (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

@MILESAHEADPORSCHE thank you and I couldn't agree more honestly if you were here touching it listening to it driving it looking underneath and everywhere in between and figuring out what's actually done I think you'd be even far more impressed there's so much here and so well prepared anyway thank you

  • MILESAHEADPORSCHE (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

What a special and spectacular 928 Porsche.
One of the best 928 track car builds in Porsche 928 history...
Good luck with the auction and sale!

  • 928928skiing (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

$80k invested plus tires etc.... Zero issues, 33 hours since built on perfect no accident nor rust car. Someone will get a GREAT machine, most complete and comprehensive I have seen and looks and sounds to kill

For clear perspective, the yellow 10.5"x18" front and 12"x18" rear wheels were custom made from Billit for this offset and cost $6k before powder coating, the 19" wheels were not cheap either but I do not know the original cost, the 18" modular wheels on the car in the pictures were more than the $6+k yellows. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires cost over $1800 the new slicks we're $500 + each so $2k there, the scrub slicks were $1800 per set as we're the racing rains, the Toyo R888s we're a solid $1600 all plus labor for the 3 mounted sets so.... All in just in wheels and tires there is at least $$27,400$$ in wheels and tires before Powder Coating and mounting and balancing 3 sets so probably 28,??? Just there?, again no bends at all on any of the wheels

Sorry I downloaded the other video twice this one is very grainy because I compressed it however the sound and the driving experience in the video is very telling I would say she rips really well

Oops I posted the other video twice, my bad , here is a GRAINY longer road video, I compressed it and now looks sort of crappy however the sound and going thru the gears is great

  • 928928skiing (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

Frustrated here.... I have 3 more DRIVING videos on country roads that are a must see, how do I show them? ? I had another driving video that they didn't add for some reason on here I'm going to try and figure out how to do it it was just me real short in the neighborhood hitting it I don't know how to attach it here I'll have to get a hold of them and find out if I can maybe I can put a link let me look

  • 928928skiing (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

@uscarrera make sure if you have any specific questions or needs that you let me know and I will do my best to provide accurate info so a person can make an informed decision based on again accurate information thank you

  • 928928skiing (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

@URS6 I apologize I was using voice to text and there's a couple typos in my long response I think you get the drift though if not ask me what I need to clarify

  • 928928skiing (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

@URS6 yes you would not have a problem with your helmet in the sunroof deleted car I'm assuming you watch the video where I showed the inside of that plus the way the turkey seats are mounted they're very low I'm very comfortable in the car with tons of headroom but I'm only 510 so beyond that with regards to Street driven in Michigan where it's from you were able to drive it on the street it has functioning brake lights but you got in Wisconsin here and presumably Michigan you have to use hand signals for turn signals although you could put turn signals back in it and with regards to headlights you would have to put some headlights in I wouldn't go to the stock style cuz they won't work anymore those spaces are fully being used for cooling and intake however I wouldn't see driving that thing at night anyway it's more or less to take it to a cool car show or drive it somewhere during the day this isn't something that you'd be comfortable in going far there's no heat there's no air conditioning and well it's a pure race car that being said it's never been raised and since it was built top to bottom only 33 hours on the hour meter thanks for your interest and let me know if you have any more specific questions I'd be willing to take videos or specific pictures of items or whatever you'd like anyway thanks again have a great day

  • 928928skiing (seller) 2 years, 1 monthago

This is very cool. I had wanted to track a 928 for many years, but I cannot fit in a sunroof car with a helmet, seems like this solves that. Interested to know more about it being street legal.seems like it would require headlights? Clearly not a daily driver, but I do drive my track car to the closer tracks so that would be a plus to be street legal. Wish it were close enough for me to see in person. Very cool. Watching closely.
