Debuted for the 1987 model year, the 928 S4 marked a substantial evolution for Porsche’s luxurious V8-powered grand touring car, including revised aerodynamic bodywork and a new 48-valve 5.0-liter engine. This 1987 example is finished in Silver Metallic over Black leather upholstery and features a 4-speed automatic transaxle, 16” forged alloy wheels, pop-up headlamps, an electric sunroof, a central locking system, power front seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, and ventilated disc brakes. Registered in California until the seller’s purchase in 2021, the car has since undergone approximately $15k worth of service, including a new timing belt and an A/C system overhaul. Showing approximately 67k miles on the odometer, this 928 S4 is now being offered for auction out of Connecticut.
Compared to earlier 928 models, the S4 features a more aerodynamic design with a rounded front end, a rear spoiler, and a revised rear end with larger taillight assemblies. This example is finished in Silver Metallic and rides on factory 16” flat disc forged alloy wheels. Other equipment includes pop-up headlights, headlamp washers, integrated fog lights, heated power mirrors, body side moldings, an electric rear window defogger, an electric sunroof, and a rear window wiper. The seller notes that the front bumper was refinished to address a scratch, and a scratch is present on the passenger door. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The 2+2 cabin is appointed with Black leather upholstery and matching carpets. Accessories include power-adjustable front seats, a black leather four-spoke steering wheel, power windows, a central locking system, an adjustable steering column, automatic climate control, cruise control, a digital clock, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM/cassette stereo. The seller indicates the air conditioning system was completely overhauled under their ownership, and most electrical switches have been replaced. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.
The aluminum 5.0-liter DOHC V8 engine is factory-rated at 316 HP and 317 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transaxle, and braking is facilitated by power-assisted ventilated discs. Service performed in 2024 included new valve cover gaskets, a crankcase breather hose, front brake pads, and power steering line O-rings. The timing belt was also replaced approximately 40 miles ago.
This sale will include a toolkit, a spare tire, a tire inflator, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Looked for this car for 3 years, bought it from a Porsche specialist in CA, had it shipped to Miami, where I spend very little time, was garaged, brought it up to Greenwich, and still not driving it enough. The car is now in perfect condition, and for anybody who loves this car as I do, it is a great opportunity to get a classic Porsche.”
