The Porsche 928 S4 debuted in 1987 with redesigned aerodynamic bodywork and a new 5.0-liter DOHC V8 engine, signifying a major evolution of the marque’s 928 grand tourer. Equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, this inaugural year example is finished in the extremely rare shade of Marine Blue Metallic over a Linen and Black interior. It was further optioned with a limited-slip differential, side protection moldings, the Hi-Fi Sound System, rear air conditioning, and more. Modified with a 928 GTS short-shift kit, this S4 is now available for auction by its seller out of Colorado showing less than 61k miles on the odometer.

Distinguished from earlier 928 models, the S4 variant features a more aerodynamically optimized rounded nose and a black polyurethane rear spoiler. This example is finished in Marine Blue Metallic (L35V), an uncommon shade offered only for the 1987, 1988, and 1990 model years. Exterior equipment includes optional side protection moldings, a sunroof, and refinished 16” forged aluminum flat disc wheels mounted with BFGoodrich g-Force high-performance all-season tires. The seller notes the passenger side was resprayed under prior ownership to address a scratch, and a paint correction and CeramicPro coating have since been performed. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the cabin is trimmed in Linen and Black leather upholstery. Features include a Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 cassette stereo, the optional Hi-Fi Sound System with an additional amplifier, left seat lumbar support, and rear air conditioning. The seller notes that the front seats have been reupholstered with genuine Porsche leather, as the original material had lost its suppleness. Additionally, the electronic rear hatch release is currently inoperable, though the hatch can still be accessed using the key.

The fuel-injected 5.0-liter DOHC V8 engine is factory-rated at 316 HP and 317 lb-ft of torque, with power sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle and an optional limited-slip differential. A 928 GTS short-shift kit has also been installed. The seller highlights two major documented services, including a $11k service in 2024 and a $5,200 service in 2025.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, and sales literature.

HI Everyone, thanks for participating in my auction! We're down to the last day and I'm hopeful that the reserve will be met and there is a lucky new steward for this "excellent" car.

I typically use the Hagerty Valuation Tool when considering FMV for collector-grade cars. I just uploaded my search results (including Hagerty's short-term forecast) to the image gallery.

Good luck in the final hours and thanks again!!

@TB12, I'm not aware of anything but the rear hatch latch as mentioned in the PCAR narrative (I just haven't gotten around to replacing the latch mechanism - using the key has worked just fine for me). AC is cold!

I spent over 20k getting this car ready (including the new leather) for the next lucky steward!

  • TB12 (registered bidder) 19 hours, 45 minutesago

Thank you. Are you aware of any immediate Concerns, deferred maintenance ,needs , imperfections, surface rust or repairs needed?
Does the entire AC system blow cold? I’m aware it’s a 38 year car. Looking for correct car that’s been maintained.

I'm seeing a $5K service total in 2025, not the $25K stated...? Thanks.

@Jon_B, Yes my mechanic purchased/installed a Porkentensioner. I found an image buried in my files that he had sent while doing the timing belt service - I just added to gallery.

  • DerekGuarascio (seller) 3 days, 20 hoursago

@JonB, yes water pump was replaced. Stay tuned on second part of your question!

  • Jon_B 3 days, 20 hoursago

Curious if the recent timing belt service included a water pump (im assuming yes) and if the Porkentensioner was used or the factory tensioner was rebuilt? Parts cost aligns with what 928sRus sells so I just wanted to get clarity there. Thanks!

@henryr, no cracking in the interior. There was one plastic trim piece around the radio that had a 1/2" crack on it and I had it replaced (I found the OEM part and my service tech installed (see latest Berg service record 2025))

  • henryr (registered bidder) 5 days, 12 hoursago

no cracking in the dash or pod area?

I have an almost identical twin to this car! Mine has an auto tranny and yours has the correct one! LOL Marine Blue is stunning as it changes color with the fading sun and the contrast of the linen leather is choice in my book. Beautiful car, Derek!

  • DerekGuarascio (seller) 5 days, 21 hoursago

@ThortonMelon, Classic 9 Leather Shop out of Michigan sourced the leather and made the covers, and Auto Weave in Denver installed. Both are pros with decades of experience - highly recommend.

Beautiful car! If you don't mind me asking, who did the leather work?

    Hello PCAR Community!

Thank you for viewing the auction of my 61k-Mile 1987 Porsche 928 S4 5-Speed Manual. The car has been very well-maintained (26 years of records) and is in excellent condition – a true survivor.

I recently installed a Porsche 928 GTS short shift kit to enhance the 5-spd manual driving experience – made a HUGE difference (original shifter included with sale). I also had the OEM wheels professionally refinished (powder-coated Porsche Silver), and had new leather for the seats installed (Porsche leather - OEM German supplier). The leather seats were not soft/slightly discolored with typical aged crack lines (no tears were present – I still have original covers). Leather replacement vs. dying was the best choice for this collector-quality car.

This 928 is otherwise 100% OEM from the factory including the exhaust. The car drives strong/tight.

I’m available throughout the week to answer any questions, thank you!
