The 1987 model year saw one of the most significant evolutions for Porsche’s iconic 928 grand tourer with the introduction of the S4, updated with an aerodynamically improved body and a new 5.0-liter V8 engine with four valves per cylinder. Equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, this launch year example is finished in Guards Red over a Black leather interior and features sport-tuned shock absorbers, an electric sunroof, an additional amplifier, and driver’s seat memory and lumbar support. This S4 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida with less than 20k miles showing on the odometer.

This 928 is finished in traditional Guards Red (L80K). Compared to its predecessor, the 928 S4 featured newly revised bodywork with an aerodynamically improved nose, sill moldings, larger taillight units, and a raised black polyurethane rear spoiler. Under current ownership, a set of Augment 17” Phone Dial wheels were mounted with Hankook Venus V12 Evo2 tires which have been driven approximately 100 miles. The factory optional 16” Flatdish forged wheels are said to accompany the sale. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the driver is greeted with Black leather upholstery. Equipment includes a Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 cassette stereo, an additional amplifier, an alarm system, driver’s seat memory and lumbar support, and an electric sunroof. The seller states that the air conditioning system was converted to utilize R134a and that the belt was replaced in May 2024, at which time the system was recharged. The low coolant warning is illuminated, reportedly attributed to a fault sensor.

The 5.0-liter 32-valve V8 engine is factory-rated at 320 HP and 317 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. Clutch operation for the S4 series was improved by the implementation of a larger diameter single-disc clutch, and sport-tuned shock absorbers were additionally opted for. The timing belt was reportedly replaced in 2016, along with the battery and alternator in 2024.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, the original wheels, and some spare parts.

@Lexday47 928's are known to have electrical issues which you can search for. The abs light (bad relay) and dash lights (wire that corroded and shorted) were fixed in minutes. The low coolant light is a bad sensor. After nearly 40 years things on any car will deteriorate. Fortunately, this car has had so much preventative maintenance that there are no issues except the low coolant light. Everything works.

  • Lexday47 (registered bidder) 3 weeksago

Repair order states that dash light issue was patched with a jump wire, any further repair done for a permanent fix. This car seems to have had a considerable amount of issues for only 19000 miles, was it stored for a while and not driven ?

  • vengerider (seller) 3 weeksago

As this is the last day of my auction please feel free to ask any questions you may have. The car is truly in spectacular condition and whoever wins (IF!) will not be disappointed.

  • vengerider (seller) 3 weeksago

@Dozer Please refer to the second video I uploaded which I show the working decklid releases. I believe you can see the clock working in that video as well although I never converted it to 12hr.

Does the clock work? Do the Decklid releases work from both sides?

@jcflinn there are no scratches anywhere on the car those are just reflections. Thank you

  • jcflinn (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 1 dayago

Beauiful car. Are there two small scratches on the left front quarter panel between the side marker and headlight or are those reflections? Thank you.

  • vengerider (seller) 3 weeks, 1 dayago

@Dozer The paint is original. Nothing has been repainted on the car and you view the paint meter readings in the gallery. I uploaded pics of the date codes on 2 tires which indicated 2023 manufacture (first month of 2023 and second to last month of 2022). I cannot get all 4 tires because the code is written on 1 side and I don't have a lift. With that in mind, the tires are brand new and have maybe 100 miles on them.

  • vengerider (seller) 3 weeks, 1 dayago

Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.

  • Dozer (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 1 dayago

Is all the paint original? What are the dates on the tires? Thank you.

  • vengerider (seller) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

Please do not hesitate to ask questions. I will answer them as quickly as possible. This car is immaculate.

@waterski56 Everything works perfectly. A/C is ice cold. Radio is loud. All functions work.

@Xjersey Moonroof works perfectly. Seals are in excellent condition.

I'll take a video of the operation of everything either today or tomorrow and post. This car could sit on a showroom next to new 911 and would look at home. It's that nice.

  • Xjersey (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

How is the function on the moonroof and is the seal in good condition?

  • waterski56 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

With the exception of the coolamt light, does everything work as it should including the AC?

  • vengerider (seller) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

Good day everyone and welcome to my auction of this spectacular 928 S4.

Let me delve into the service history and the low coolant light. When I got the car the dash lights didn’t work, the ABS light was on and the low coolant light was on. I also had the receipt from 2016 as to the last timing belt service with not much service since.

I immediately brought this beauty to KMW Motorsports who I trust implicitly and is definitely one of (if not the) best P-car shop here in S. Florida. All the dash issues were fixed and were rather small with the exception of the low coolant light. It still is on from time to time but they couldn’t justify taking the entire system apart for thousands of dollars for a bad sensor so they left it. Needless to say the cooling system works fine and most of the coolant system was recently replaced.

When they went through the car they told me the timing belt was a newer part and looked brand new. They also told me all the fluids in the car (oil, coolant, diff.) were all recently changed and looked to be new as well. They went over the car top to bottom and said it needed nothing.

I am sure there is a receipt somewhere with the previous owner that would show these services but they weren’t included. The car is virtually flawless, the paint is all original, there is almost no wear anywhere.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck and hopefully someone will take this gem home. There are nice 928’s and then there are NICE 928’s. This is one of the NICEST!!
