Introduced for the 1987 model year, the S4 version of Porsche’s 928 grand touring car featured a new 5.0-liter V8 engine and improved aerodynamic bodywork. This launch-year example has been kept as part of the owner’s Porsche 928 collection and features a Meteor Grey Metallic finish, a 928 Motorsports centrifugal supercharger kit, aluminum engine mounts, a custom exhaust, aftermarket 18” wheels, updated Porsche Boxster seats, an electric sunroof, and a 4-speed automatic transmission. Benefitting from a major recent service including replacements of the timing belt, water pump, radiator, and more, this 928 S4 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.
Compared to its predecessors, the 928 S4 features a more rounded aerodynamic nose with integrated driving lights as well as larger taillights and a rear wing. This example is finished in Meteor Grey Metallic with a matching rear spoiler and has been modified with 928 GTS-style aero mirrors. Other details include optional body side moldings, pop-up headlights, a headlamp washer system, an electric sunroof, dual stainless-steel exhaust tips, red-painted brake calipers, and aftermarket 18” wheels finished in gloss black with polished outer lips. The seller notes the car was previously refinished to address scratches and the tires are older. The CARFAX report shows a salvage title issued by the state of New York after the vehicle was stolen and recovered in 1999.
The cabin features grey and blue upholstery including newer seats derived from a Porsche 986 Boxster. Other modifications include an aftermarket three-spoke steering wheel, red LED instrument cluster lights, an AEM air/fuel ratio gauge, custom 928 S4 logo floor mats, and an aftermarket stereo with a removable faceplate. The car is also equipped with power windows, a central locking system, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a locking glovebox. The seller notes the power-operated seats and mirrors are not connected and the rear window wiper has been removed. The instrument cluster was recently replaced, and the car’s true mileage is unknown.
This 928 S4 is equipped with a 5.0-liter V8 DOHC engine featuring a 928 Motorsports Stage 1 supercharger kit, aluminum, engine mounts, and a custom stainless-steel X-pipe exhaust. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transaxle. The seller notes the timing belt and water pump were replaced within the last 1k miles along with the power steering rack, oil pan gaskets, header gaskets, belts, hoses, radiator, and fans.
This sale will include a toolkit, a spare tie, an air pump, a car cover, a battery charger, and a branded title.
The seller would like you to know: “The car has a bit of a confusing history, but I will explain I own 6 928 currently in my collection this is mechanically and cosmetically very clean and sorted not perfect but there are no leaks start-up runs drives great no pulling no noises. Quick and has a great grunt but not a loud exhaust system. I would never purchase or sell anything that I don’t feel was clean and safe I wrench and restore these for 25 years. You won’t find another one underneath with all the modifications leak-free tidy inside and out. While a few little things can be addressed you can drive it home and drive it every day with no smoke no noises temp oil pressure battery charging all great. The prior owners that registered and titled the car did a horrible and inaccurate job with documentation which I cannot change. But from a mechanical technician standpoint, the car is better than 60 percent of the 928s I see and that’s a lot. I’m selling it only because of my age and the large number of cars I have in my collection. I hired a very capable experienced manager to handle all aspects of these sales for me. He will be in contact with me through the entire process and can answer any question for you.”

Thanks for the answers to the first two questions. How about the other ones? I particular how long have you owned the car and what did you do to it vs previous owner? Thanks
@TexasTRex seats are power and they work the mirror power is not installed but wiring is available
@TexasTRex kit was not installed by me . Equipment is listed the parameters or mapping of what’s installed is not known
Assuming the "very capable experienced manager to handle all aspects of these sales" is not online consistently, so I'll go ahead and ask some more questions now so they might all get answered at the same time.
The "Carbon Fiber" on the dash and console looks like a sticker. Any prior to application photos to see what has been covered up?
Is there a cap on the dash?
When was the supercharger installed? Is that when the head gaskets were replaced? Are the original parts going with the car to remove the supercharger if needed?
Why was the instrument cluster replaced?
Are there other electrical issues that need to be corrected? Any other accessories not functioning (i.e. A/C, power windows, etc...)
Carfax mileage seems to be consistent up through 2007 at 125,000 miles, tires are from 2011, has the car been sitting for an extended period of time? When did the current owner acquire it? What did they modify on the car vs previous owners?
I'm very interested in this car....at the right price. The answers to these questions and a little more history from the owner are necessary to determine what the "right price" is.
Looking forward to some responses from the owner or "manager".
Ok we haven't gotten an answer on the easy question....so less try a harder one.;).
What has been done to the ignition map to compensate for the super charger? My understanding is 928 Motorsports kits retain the standard ignition timing which makes no since to me but please explain. What has been done and the logic to support it?
More info needed on seats and mirrors....not connected? Obviously more than just unplugged or you would plug them in. Electrical issue? Because the seats were change and are not compatible? Further explanation please.
