Now available for auction is this 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa finished in Guards Red. The 1987 model year saw the introduction of the 5-speed G50 manual gearbox for the 911 Carrera as well as increased power for U.S. specification engines. This Targa had spent life in Florida and Georgia before moving to Colorado in 2014. Optional front and rear spoilers were equipped from the factory, upgraded two-piece wheels have been equipped, and the cabin has been reupholstered with custom tartan inserts for the seats. Showing approximately 114k miles on the odometer, this classic air-cooled Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
This 911 comes finished in Guards Red with a removable black roof panel and matching Targa band. Front and rear spoilers came as optional factory equipment, and the car has been fitted with a set of aftermarket 16” Fuchs-style wheels dressed in BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport tires. The seller notes several touch-ups and imperfections on the front end and fuel filler door, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The seats have been reupholstered in black vinyl with custom tartan inserts for the centers. Some wear is noted on the carpeting and an aftermarket Panasonic radio has been installed. The seller confirms all gauges and accessories remain fully functional, although the A/C system is recommended for a recharge.
This 1987 Carrera is equipped with an air-cooled 3.2L flat-six engine producing as much as 217 HP and 195 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed G50 manual transmission. A major service in 2010 is said to have included an engine rebuild with refreshed piston rings, valves, a new clutch, and more. The seller notes over 15 years’ worth of service records will accompany the sale, and the CARFAX report shows 6 service maintenance records between 2014 and 2021.
This sale will include a toolkit, spare tire, and a clean title. For any driver looking to get behind the wheel of a classic air-cooled Targa, this G50-equipped 1987 example is certainly worthy of consideration.

@9NEIN1 A/C could use a recharge. No leaks to the targa top. Clutch was done when engine rebuild was done, about 9k miles ago. Don't know about a pedal rebuild- all feels good to me when driven. Everything in working order except for the a/c as noted
How is the AC? How many miles on the clutch? Has the pedal assembly been rebuilt? Any leaks from the targa top in the rain? Anything NOT working? Thanks!
@32targa No leaks or seapage. Car has been a primarily southern car. No corrosion. Some small surface rust on some bolts on the underside. Thats not a patch on the floor but some exposed floorpan where the covering material has come off.

Any leakage/seepage? Did you notice any rust on the car? Is the bare spot in pic #53 a patch on the floor pan?

@32targa Yes, front and rear spoilers are factory options. Photo of rear spoiler shows the Porsche name.
Is the spoiler genuine? Is it a factory option that came with the car?
Hi, I see not signs of prior body work on the car and Carfax shows none. Yes, the other pair of seats are included. I can get battery box photos up in a couple days. That is not oil you see but water where I sprayed my garage floor before pulling the car back in. Engine is dry and I will post photos showing so. If you notice, the water is far forward from where the engine is. Thanks.
Just a few questions. Is that an respray or was there more done? Do the two seats pictured all in black come with the sale? Is it possible to get a photo of the battery pan w/o the battery in place? There looks like quite a bit of oil under the car. Is that from this 911?
Thanks!
The wheels are HRE lightweight 2 piece wheels.
