Finished in Granite Green Metallic over black leather upholstery, this 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa was modified with a custom turbocharger and intercooler setup for its air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine under previous ownership. It comes equipped with a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle, a painted roll bar, an Alcantara MOMO steering wheel, RS-style door panels, Coco floor mats, air conditioning, cruise control, Turbo spoilers, and body-colored 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels. Showing approximately 149k miles on the odometer, this turbocharged 911 Targa is now being offered for auction out of Delaware.

The exterior was reportedly refinished in its factory Granite Green Metallic paint color under previous ownership. It features a vinyl-covered removable roof panel, a black wraparound Targa bar, black Porsche-logo side stripes, integrated front fog lights, a front chin spoiler, a 930 Turbo “Tea Tray” rear spoiler, and 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels with body-colored centers. The Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires show production date codes from 2020 and 2022. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The black interior includes adjustable leather front seats, a painted roll bar, RS-style door panels, an Alcantara-wrapped MOMO three-spoke steering wheel, and two-tone Coco floor mats. The driver is also provided with a boost pressure gauge, power windows, air conditioning, cruise control, and a central locking system. The radio has been deleted with a blanking plate, and all other accessories are said to be fully functional.

The air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine was fitted with a turbocharger, a modified exhaust system, and a custom-fabricated intercooler by a previous owner. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle, and braking is handled by cross-drilled discs at each corner. The seller notes an oil leak from the engine.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This turbo upgraded driver quality 1987 Targa is ready for a new owner to enjoy her to the fullest!”

@MCQueens and @Siberian24 can you post the output of the conversation? I'm also very interested in the response to those questions.

@tommeron 1. the car has a noted slight leak in the valve cover gasket
    2. The 2 pieces do touch
    3. The transmission and clutch is proper working order.
    4. We have no additional receipts other than what has already been provided
    5. The A/C blows warm and has not been converted to R134A
    6. No leaking, the Targa and all seals are water tight.
    7. As far as maintenance is concerned; we just performed a brake flush and repaired the horn

Added: By "not sounding correct", I mean engine doesn't have the sort of "hollow burble" sound of a P-turbo engine.
Other thoughts: Is CIS enriched for HP & heat? Were intakes enlarged for flow? Are valve assemblies stock P-SC? Does this car pass smog requirements? Is there any added oil cooling, other than a stock "oil trombone" in RF fender? Are fan pulley replaced with faster rotation pulleys? Is that the A/C condenser under the car?
A lot of questions, no engine details.

    Some questions, thoughts.
P-original 3.0L Turbo had 6.5:1 compression ratio, and .8bar-.9bar boost, no intercooler. Later 3.3L had 7.0:1 compression with intercooler. While this Targa has a significantly larger intercooler than OEM or even Andial versions, high 9.5:1 compression is "risky". Results of boost pressure, heat, detonation are a tricky balance. The tell-tale says just over .5bar pressure. Any more than that may melt sparkplugs, or eventually destroy the engine. Higher compression gets rid of the low end "sort of slow lugging" when at lower rpms, and does boost HP output. Is the turbo a K26 or a upgrade option K27? Is there pop-off valve or an actual wastegate? What was done to exhaust headers/pipe to muffler? Was muffler modified? Are camshafts stock SC cams or some other variation, and where was the cam timing set at? Was anything done to lower compression ratio closer to factory 7:1 ratio?
Offhand, the engine just doesn't "sound" correct, something is very different. Points mentioned above have serious impact on longevity and reliability of the engine. Do you have any documentation of rebuild or fab what went into engine?
Is suspension stock torsion bars, stock brakes, etc? Does it have 930 pressure plate/LWFW installed? It takes many more components to control or minimize the built in deficiencies of suspension, especially as HP goes up.
    Thoughts? GLWS.

@MCQueens - appreciate the response on the turbo. Been a long week, but I have a bunch of questions I'm hoping you can answer:
    1. Any additional details about the oil leak? How much oil is leaking between changes (or per gas tank or however you'd like to measure)? And where is the leak?
    2. Does the rear lid hit the intercooler? The closure looks off there for some reason, but could be unrelated.
    3. Everything good with the transmission and clutch? (anything sticking or grinding or popping out of gear or any leaks?)
    4. Any additional receipts since 2012?
    5. Does the AC actually work? And is it still R12?
    6. Does the Targa or any other seals leak?
    7. Any thoughts on what maintenance repairs need to be done next?
Seems like you've done a really good job of documenting the cosmetic flaws, but I'm interested in the mechanical side.

Holy cow! I looked at this car when it was avaialble for sale in NH in 2015. The guy wouldn't let me drive it so I passed. There has been a ton of work put into this car since then and she looks so much better now. I remember she pulled hard on acceleration.

The guy also had a bunch of gret market imports in his barn. Little Mazda turbo hatches, original Cooper Minis, all sorts of cool stuff.

I ultimately ended up getting a 2005 996 Turbo that served me very well, but I still think "what if" is I bought this car.

Any idea on the make of the turbo, who built the intercooler or the manufacturer/model of the coilovers?
