Equipped with a desirable 5-speed G50 manual gearbox newly introduced for the model year, this 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe comes finished in rare Lagoon Green Metallic over a custom Leather to Sample interior. It was also ordered with optional Sport Seats and a rare “slicktop” factory sunroof delete. This Carrera is said to have been cared for by the same owner for the past 12 years and has been maintained by an air-cooled Porsche specialist while modified with a B&B performance exhaust, stiffer torsion bars, European spec bumperettes, and a front air dam. This beautifully appointed 1987 Carrera is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Massachusetts.

This 911 comes finished in Lagoon Green Metallic (F2), a rarely-seen color offered by Porsche from the late 1980s through the early 1990s. An optional rear window wiper was equipped from the factory and the car has been modified with slim European spec rear bumperettes, a Turbo-style front spoiler, dual exit exhaust, and updated aero mirrors. It rides on a set of 16” Fuchs alloy wheels. The seller notes both doors were previously refinished, and the CARFAX report shows minor damage to the right front end in 2003. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The custom beige Leather to Sample (99) interior includes optional electrically adjustable Sport Seats and an original Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 radio. Other equipment includes automatic climate control, power windows, central locking system, a heated rear window, and cruise control.

The air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine was rated at 217 HP and drives the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed G50 manual transmission. An upgraded B&B performance exhaust system has been installed along with a front strut tower brace and stiffer torsion bars. The seller states a top-end engine rebuild was completed about 6 years ago at approximately 236k miles and routine maintenance has been addressed as needed.

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

@590HP Sorry, I thought that you were someone else.. I cannot get any additional pictures of the undercarriage because the car is 1 hour and a half from me and there is no lift there. I really am sorry but logistically its not possible..

  • 590HP (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Silverstone I have not visited the car -- its about 3 hours from me

But I would love to see more shots fo the underside

  • Silverstone (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@590HP were you able to get a sense of the undercarriage when you visited the car?

  • Frankobra 1 year, 10 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $45,000

  • 590HP (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

    @Silverstone

Would you please share some undercarriage photos...?

The CarFax shows this car spent about 150K miles in Ohio, so rust is a bit of a concern. I am always nervous when it comes to Midwest Winters and what they do to poor, unsuspecting sheet metal -- especially 1970s and 80s cars...

@590HP @Silverstone -- sorry, that question was for you about underside photos

  • 590HP (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

Would you please share some better undercarriage photos...

The CarFax shows this car spent about 150K miles in Ohio. Naturally, rust is a concern

The car is lovely, but I am always a nervous cat when it comes to Midwest winters and what they do to poor unsuspecting sheet metal...

@mstakacs sometimes it takes extra time for these cars to come off of the sites. The car is not available for purchase anywhere other than PCARMARKET as per the user agreement. It is also to note that the asking price on the vehicle from an old listing in no way correlates with the reserve price on the vehicle.

This is currently listed on their website for $65,000.

@maladent Just an added comment regarding the AC, he replaced the compressor and bought one new condenser and had the other refurbished all last year.

    Thanks

  • Silverstone (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@Frankobra The owner has the car in his garage and he does not own a cell phone nor does he have an email address. I have provided Pcarmarket two videos that I do have so they will likely be posted shortly

  • Silverstone (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@SrryBr0 He does yes, they will be with the car as will the 4 original wheels

    Thanks

Does the owner have the original side mirrors?

@Silverstone Where in CT? We have friends in Fairfield and need an excuse for a visit...

  • Silverstone (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@590HP This is a response to yours as well as others regarding the paint. The paint in general is in very good condition. The owner swapped out the door mirrors as he did not like the square mirrors that were on the car. They decided to repaint the doors when they painted the mirrors and there is definitely a slightly different hue that is noticeable in some light.

    Thanks

  • Silverstone (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@maladent The rebuild was done by the owner and a Porsche mechanic from his local Porsche club. Cylinders were honed, rings replaced as well as the rod bearings. I am happy to put you in tough directly with the owner if you message me and he will be happy to discuss this with you ..

There are no leaks however, transmission works perfectly but has never been rebuilt and the AC does work per spec and was recharged this last summer.

  • Silverstone (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@mezger The car is resident with its owner in CT so I cannot get that picture for you immediately. I can however send you HI RES pictures that I do have of that area of the car that you can zoom in on with good clarity. Just message me your email address..

    Thanks

  • mezger (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

Can you post a few more close up pictures of any paint bubbles around the car? Specifically at the lower rear door/rocker section on the passenger side. Thanks!

Of the Rebuild ? Leak down? Compression?
    A/C working to 911 spec?
    Thanks

    @LiveFromNY Now that you point it out, I can see some differences in pics 7 + 5 + 2 and 19 + 20 + 21 (but not 3)

And there are some gaps on the front + rear of the door (Pic 13 + 19) but again, I expect some of that from a 300k car. You tell me what is within normal parameters

  • 590HP (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

    @nohops Thanks, that is useful.

My 1988 Cabrio in dark (non-metallic) blue that I am going to have thoroughly compounded before I ceramic coat it. The only non-metallic car I have. I have experience with metallic paint issues but I just cannot quit them -- especially the 60s muscle cars born to wear them.

PS: I bet your 1888 has amassed a wonderful patina by now!

  • nohops 1 year, 10 monthsago

I'm a former licensed auto appraiser going back to the mid-seventies, so I've seen a lot. Metallic paint can be difficult to match and can look different depending on the light and direction it's viewed. I have an 1888 911 in dark blue that has some paint issues. I was advised by a highly respected restorer and Concours judge not to repaint the hood. I hope the seller does well with the sale.

  • LiveFromNY (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@590HP Just look at the doors. They have been refinsihed and the paint doesn't match. Not the end of the world, but clearly should be addressed for this car to reach its potential.

  • 590HP (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

    Sincere questions:

@nohops What is wrong with the paint?
@LiveFromNY What is the issue with the doors?

This presents to me as a well-maintained, 35-year old car with 276,049 miles and original paint and interior.

Please educate me as to what I am missing...

Nice car, let down by inferior paintwork.
