In 1987, the Porsche 911 received upgrades including a more potent 3.2-liter flat-six engine and the introduction of the refined 5-speed G50 manual transmission, notably enhancing performance and driving dynamics for the Carrera model. Finished in Marine Blue Metallic over a Champagne Beige interior, this 1987 Carrera Coupe features 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels, central locking, cruise control, an electric sunroof, and more. Initially acquired from Alan Johnson Porsche/Audi in San Diego, California, the car comes with service records exceeding $50k and remains under the care of its original owner. Showing approximately 174k miles on the odometer, this example is now being offered for auction out of California.
This 911 is finished in Marine Blue Metallic (L35U) and features a front valence with integrated fog lights along with an electric sliding sunroof. It rides on polished 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Exalto tires from 2021 and 2022 in like-new condition. The seller notes slight imperfections including a crack in the windshield and minor signs of age on the wheel polish. The hood and front bumper are said to have been refinished due to mileage. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin features Champagne Beige partial leather seats with matching carpets, door panels, and a center console. The Sport seats are said to have been dealer-installed upon initial delivery by request of the purchaser. Other factory equipment includes electrically height-adjustable seats, power windows and mirrors, air conditioning, cruise control, a central locking system, and a Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 cassette radio. A car phone has also been installed. Some patina as expected with age is noted. Decoding the option sticker reveals the following:
Power is derived from an air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine, generating as much as 217 HP and 195 lb.-ft of torque stock. The rear wheels are driven through a desirable 5-speed G50 manual transmission. Stopping is provided by fixed 2-piston brakes and ventilated discs. The seller adds that service documentation exceeding $50k will accompany the sale, showing services as recent as 2024.
This sale will include a clean title, the original owner’s manual set, spare keys, a Clifford alarm remote fob, stamped service book, tool roll, spare tire/wheel, compressor, car phone with phone use contract/user manual, and original purchase contract documents.
The seller would like you to know: “Single owner car from new! Purchased from Alan Johnson Porsche/Audi off Rosecrans Street - San Diego, CA on 8/29/1987. Over $50,000 in records accompany the car along with its original owner’s manual set, spare keys, Clifford alarm remote fob, stamped service book, tool roll, spare tire/wheel, compressor, car phone with phone use contract/user manual, and original purchase contract documents. Upon the car's arrival in San Diego, the seats were swapped out with the current sport seats by the original selling dealer prior to delivery - per request. The car has never been in an accident. The front bumper and hood were repainted due to use & age several years ago. Mild imperfections can be found throughout, but the car is in above-average condition for its mileage. I have purchased 3 new cars in my life- an ‘03 SL500, ’05 E55 AMG, and this car. The ‘03 SL had 161,000 miles when I sold it last month - it had $50k+ in records. The e55 had 202k miles with $50k+ in records when sold last week. I baby all of my cars even though they are my daily road warriors. I hope the records, and photos of the car & my garage show the level of OCD-ness... You won't find a nicer example with these miles. This car presents & drives as well as your 40-80k mile cars. Everything works. The clutch, brakes, and steering are all precise & strong. Windows & sunroof all operate quickly, as they should. The car is completely unmodified with the exception of the heavy-duty strut brace in the frunk. The windshield is original and unfortunately has a crack at the top center & a few stars. It has not grown in size since it occurred some time ago. It's placed just behind the rearview mirror & hasn't been something I've felt needed to be replaced - but the next owner may feel differently. Except for the windshield, everything is up to snuff & in proper working order. Inspections welcome. You might consider David Nutley Automotive for that. Happy to assist with the arrangement of transport should that be necessary. Best of luck & thank you.”

Folks we have learned that accusing folks of wrongdoing has proven to be counter-productive. Some are unfamiliar with the technology and we have seen many folks accidentally outbid themselves. Let's be mindful to the seller and bidders.

@ElisMotorcars @torreypinesdriver Chrome pitted wheels - not an easy fix. Probably need to live with it as is or buy all new wheels.

First start in a week. So it’s cold cold cold. Not a puff of smoke. Not a hiccup. Cars tight & precise. Enjoy the new video clip.

Please be sure to see the original dealers MSRP sticker which notes the sport seats added by the dealer (per my request) prior to taking delivery. They've been in the car since mile 1. The car you see today is exactly as it left the showroom floor - with the exception of the strut brace. Good Luck, Everyone. Thanks for all the kind feedback.

I missed another point worth sharing. Valve covers were done recently as well by David Nutley Automotive.
I’d like to correct a statement I made initially. The windshield is not original. It was replaced by Pioneer Porsche San Diego on 12/20/1991. She was $625.10 back then. My apologies for any inconvenience.
@eggsandwich The unique car phone required an antenna. Thanks Egg Sandwich. Love that handle 👍
OK Folks - here’s the best I could do without scanning / photographing every single document. I’ve posted 37 photos of records. They indicate years of service, mileage in/out, expense & what was done. To keep you having to read them all (but please do) here’s an example of how I’ve kept it. On August 22nd 2018, I took it in to Hoehn Porsche when it failed smog. Here is what I had done after their review of the car.
- Replaced the O2 sensor.
- Clutch replacement kit - Flywheel - release lever - clutch shaft - shaft cover / support - needle bearing - articulated bush - rubber seal - alum seal ring - grooved ball bearing - rubber oil seals - rubber hose - oil hoses - ig wire clip - rubber cap - Engine Compartment Dampening Mat - 4 New Tires - Alignment - Brake Fluid - Horns replaced - original fuel lines replaced - gaskets & flanges - air filter - oil change - breather hoses - clutch slave cylinder - oil hoses - etc - TOTALING $10,363.06. Mileage was 158,655 when done. As far as I can see, based on this file, this was the only time the engine & transmission were removed from the car. I’ve recently had the front wheel bearings & seals done, axel boots, tie rods (930), brakes/pads & sensors, AC charged.
I hope this helps.
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
Sorry I might just not know this vintage very well...are the antennas normally inlaid in these windscreens? Why is there an antenna in the middle of the top of the rear glass? Is that stock?
I’ve returned. I will grab the file & refresh my memory of the big services & share the findings. Thank you all for the kind words & admiration of the car thus far
@WRENCH.56 THANK YOU! I couldn’t agree more. It’s been a fantastic car & continues to be.
WOW! IMO, it just doesn’t get much better than this in the realm of post 60s and pre 993 911s.
It is very rare to find one owner examples of such a great classic. I profoundly respect anyone who drives and obviously well maintains a car for 174,000 miles. I would trust this car far more than one with half that mileage and swapped between 4 to 6
owners.
This thing should do very well by close of auction and I would bid but for my far overcrowded stable. One more sports car and I’m an unwilling bachelor!
Bid in the amount of $47,911
@Swaje I have never modified anything in this car with the exception of adding the strut brace in the frunk. These are the wheels it came with when I bought it brand new. Thanks.
Are these the original Fuchs wheels? Do you have spacers on them? They seem to be a bit wider.
@eggsandwich please be advised as per our policy that the sale is final if you are the winning bidder. This is why we advise performing your inspection prior to close of auction. If you win the car and the seller decides to let the sale be contingent, the service fee rendered to Pcar is non-refundable. The reason for this is that the sellers come here to get the vehicle contractually sold within 7 days, we kindly ask all due diligence be performed prior to the closing. Best of luck.
@eggsandwich Hello @eggsandwich - Not the first time I’ve said that….. 🥪 You are welcome to have an inspection performed. As I mentioned, I’m away tending to an unfortunate family matter. I will present all of the large & important services from the file on Tuesday. Thank you.
Would you be open to a purchase subject to a PPI? Better still can you have a PPI done (leakdown and compression tests) to reassure a bidder? There's not much information relating to the current state of the mechanics of the car.
Very kind of you, @FreshCoast262
Respect! Beautiful car. Good luck with the Auction.
Bid in the amount of $46,388
@Speedj1 please forgive me. My memory doesn’t serve me at the moment. Anything & everything the car ever REQUIRED, I tended to. If a service advisor recommended it, I did it. That doesn’t answer question, I know. When I return Tuesday, I’ll go through records again & let you know. Thank you.
Bid in the amount of $25,000
Love the color blue. Any engine reseal work on this car?
Bid in the amount of $18,911
@RedArcadia Thank you. Most of the maintenance has been by the book on schedule & preventative. No, the engine has not been rebuilt but I will upload the most significant records I come across once I return.
I respect your commitment to your vehicles. Have the engine and transmission been rebuilt? I see there are a lot of scans, but it would be helpful to call out the major services performed.
Fantastic, enjoy those cars!
Bid in the amount of $10,000
Greetings Porsche Lovers! To say the least, this car has been loved. I will deeply miss this car. What I expect to be my last car has just loaded its container ship & is on its way - so I have something to look forward to still. Unfortunately, the listing of this car going live coincides with me heading out of town to tend to a family emergency. I’ll rerun to the car on Tuesday. I’ll do my very best to answer any & all questions remotely. Please buy with the utmost of confidence. I’ve religiously maintained this car. Please read the entire description - I did my best to capture the level of care & condition of this car in photos. I did not photograph every service record. There are MANY. Many thanks for viewing my auction & best of luck to you.
