Available for auction is this 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet finished in Guards Red with a black soft-top over a black leather interior. The 1987 model year marked the inauguration of the new 5-speed G50 manual gearbox and also included revised engine tuning for increased power on U.S. models. Since being purchased by the seller in 1998, this example has undergone regular maintenance and has had many tasteful upgrades including RUF-style front and rear bumpers, 17” Kinesis Cup-Style wheels, a custom sound system, and Fabspeed exhaust. Sporting a truly unique combination of customizations, this Carrera Cabriolet is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California showing approximately 155k miles on the odometer.
This Carrera Cabriolet is finished in Guards Red and has an aftermarket 993-style single-piece black Cabriolet soft top. It rides on 17" Kinesis 3-piece Cup-style wheels with AKT centers, which are dressed in Continental Extreme Contact tires. Other exterior modifications include RUF-style front and rear bumpers, a Carrea-style rear wing with its edge painted satin black, and 964/993 power mirrors. The seller notes that the original bumpers are included in the sale, and the rear wing sits on the original decklid. Additionally, the seller reports a small repair area on the front right fender that occurred under a previous owner. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, the cabin is finished in black leather and is said to be in good condition for the vehicle’s age. The driver’s seat side bolster has been replaced, and the original carpet has been replaced with a 22-piece German-knit OEM-style carpet set. Other interior upgrades include:
A Momo Montecarlo steering wheel (original steering wheel included in sale)
964 factory gauges done by NHS with a Gemballa Tachometer and 200 MPH speedometer
A custom Alpine Stereo System with Polk Audio Speakers, an Apline Subwoofer, Alpine Amp, Kenwood Amp, and Audio Control Preamp
An OEM 964 windscreen
Black aluminum door handles with Porsche Crests
All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.
This Carrera Cabriolet is equipped with an original 3.2-liter air-cooled flat-six engine that produces up to 217 HP and drives the rear wheels through a desirable G50 5-speed manual gearbox. The seller states that the top-end of the engine has been rebuilt by an independent Porsche specialist. Performance modifications include a K&N air intake, Fabspeed exhaust, Jacobs ignition coil, and lowering of the factory suspension to Euro height with 930 Turbo tie rods. Since acquiring the car in 1998, the seller notes the car has been regularly serviced with fluid changes and necessary maintenance. Recent major service includes a tune-up, valve adjustment, spark plugs, oil change, and new rotors. Other maintenance items have included a new starter, new starter solenoid, new battery, new front hubs, new axle boots, new alternator, new footwell blower motors, G50 fork needle bearing upgrade to one with a 930 clutch disc, and rebuilding of all four brake calipers along with new brake lines. The seller notes the engine sound-reducing cover has been removed but can be added back if the new owner prefers a quieter ride.
This sale will include a clean title, spare tire, battery charger, Porsche factory book, some documentation, and two sets of keys.

There is an amazing pride of ownership here. Congrats on this, just one warning- you might regret selling, and a few years from now will either be searching for it again to buy it back, or bidding on a car "just like the one you wish you never sold". GLWTA!

This is a great looking Cabriolet...
@Flsupraguy No drive ability issues, AC works, cruise control works, no oil leaks.
Any drivability issues? Does the AC work? Does the cruise control work? Any oil leaks?
The mechanic shop has service records that can be emailed. The car is available for PPI if anyone wants to have one done. Good luck to all bidders.
@1969911Ss 135k, engine was taken apart by local Independent Porsche shop. Top end was rebuild, with new valves, cams, etc to take care of oil smoke which is common for these years.
perhaps you could give us some more information on when and what was done on the top end rebuild.
@1969911Ss The cabriolet top is factory and its 100% manual. The frame is original. The canvas is German 993 1 piece aftermarket.
is this cabriolet a factory model or aftermarket? can you show how the top goes up and down? I am assuming it is strictly manual.
@TyStav I included this in the walk Around Video, no rust, clean California Car.

@SPDADCT thanks!
@TyStav That's a good suggestion, I will take videos tomorrow and post.
Could you post a driving video and a video walk around of the vehicle? Thanks.
Hello Everyone, A lot of you may know this car from local Porsche Club events, Super Car Sunday, and most C&C spots. I have owned this 911 for almost 25 years and its hard letting it go, but it’s time to find her a new home. I have done my best to restore and maintain everything on the car to ensure everything works as it did new. The car has always been garaged indoors, stored for winter, and registered every year since new. Please feel free to ask me any questions and I will do my best to answer them.
Joe
