Available for auction is this extremely rare 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera M491/M470 Cabriolet finished in the paint to sample color of Maraschino Red Metalilc over a cream and accenting burgundy partial leather interior. Not only does this example possess the desirable G50 5-speed manual gearbox, it also represents one of the few M491 Turbo-Look Cabriolets reported to have been delivered to the U.S. in 1987. Furhtermore, this Carrera represents one of only approximitely 58 models equipped with the M470 options which allows for a front and rear spoiler delete. Sold new by Concourse Motors Porsche in Milwaukee (Now Porsche Milwaukee North), it was then purchased by a couple in 1991 who meticulously serviced it for 30 years before selling it to its current owner. Coming with extensive maintenance records and a one-of-a-kind specification, this 911 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of South Carolina showing approximately 48k miles.
This Carrera is finished in the color of Maraschino Red Metallic. It most notably features both the M491 and M470 options which make for an extremely unique look, keeping the wide-body turbo fenders while deleting the front and rear spoilers. Exterior work includes a new burgundy soft top installed about five years ago and repainted side mirrors approximitely four years ago, both performed by the second owner. This example rides on factory 16” Fuchs wheels dressed in Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires from 2021 and also comes with a factory-optioned tonneau cover. The seller notes minor cosmetic imperfections, with the most notable being some chips on front end and one small ding on passenger rear end (see photo gallery). The seller also notes that all of the rubber is supple. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The partial leather interior sports cream-colored seats with an accenting burgundy dash and seat piping. Modifications from the second owner include a Clifford IntelliGuard 100 alarm, Whistler Spectrum 2 radar detector, Alpine CDE-HD149 Bluetooth head unit, Boston Acoustic Speakers, and a cupholder between the front seats. The seller subsequently installed a Momo Prototipo steering wheel and had it wrapped in burgundy leather, had the cupholder wrapped in burgundy leather, installed a 917-style natural wood shift knob, and converted the A/C to R134a. The original steering wheel, cupholder, and shift knob are included in the sale. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly aside from the healights intermittently switching from dim to bright. The seller states that this is most likely due to a switch needing replacement.
This Carrera Cabriolet is equipped with an air-cooled 3.2 L flat-six engine that sends up to 217 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox. As an M491 example, this 911 also showcases the widened suspension setup and larger brakes of the 911 Turbo. The seller notes they purchased the car in July 2021 from a couple that owned it for 30 years. They regularly serviced the car and ensured it was up-to-date with appropriate maintenance book stamping (the seller reports the maintenance book shows all service stamps since new). Prior to selling it, they had an oil change performed, valve cover gaskets replaced, and brake and clutch fluid flushed. Upon acquisition, the seller had Complete Car Care in Columbia, SC inspect the vehicle. The 911 was given clean bill of health but was recommended new tires, which the seller obliged.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manual, spare tire, car cover, tonneau cover, battery charger, sales brochure/literature, extensive records, and two sets of keys.

@BlueDevils00 yes I thought same. . The service stamps do good job of documenting odometer
Oooh la la. Mr Webb

The Carfax looks like at first Ontario didn't do the miles to km conversion and then revised the number on the next entry. It seems to match with what would have happened after driving for multiple years and then coming back to NC - guessing

@Wylden, when carefully reviewing the mileages on the CarFax and the Service Book, I have noticed some discrepancies. This may be due to the ownership in Canada and some of the mileages being reported in kilometers rather than miles. Notably, there are two entries in the CarFax of the same exact day, May 17, 2004. One claims a mileage of 26,508 while the second entry immediately following states 42,901. This may be the approximate (but not exact) conversion of miles to kilometers or vice versa but still doesn't tell a whole story. My question is, do you know if the speedometer was ever changed to one with kilometers and/or back to miles at one point? It would explain the discrepancies picked up by CarFax for mileage inconsistencies.

Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
I just found a Porsche front bra in original box that will go with the car. Doesn’t appear I ts ever been out of the box. The label says fits 89 Speedster ?? I sent Pcarmarket a picture of it to upload in the listing.
@IGB911 hi and thanks for the questions! I just got home and took pic of the sticker under the hood per your request. I assume Pcarmarket will upload it in the morning-I texted my contact and asked him to. I do not have access to a paint meter. I leave for business trip to Boston in the morning at 5:30 AM and will return next Friday. I say this so if you or any other potential bidder would would like a picture of anything else I can take it tonight and happy to do it!
A beautiful example! Two questions and if I missed them I apologize in advance: are there paint meter readings? Secondly, is there a picture of option codes sticker on the underside of the front hood? Many thanks in advance.

@tkbrady thanks for the comment and to your point I’ve had 2 people ask me if it is a Speedster :)
Such beautiful lines!
The M491/M470 combo is very rare and the PTS adds to that. I own one of these and can attest that the wide-body with the spoiler delete makes for beautiful classic look - almost Speedster like. This is a great sample.

@BarryLe Unfortunately no. :( I tried before the listing and called the 2 shops in town that can do a leak down again this morning after I saw your comment to see if they could squeeze me in and both shops are slammed busy and cant get me in for at least 3 weeks.
@chuckent Unfortunately i have to go to Boston for work this weekend through next Friday or i would welcome you to come see it Sunday. Thanks!
@DriverM Yes I have original Steering wheel and shift knob- there is a picture of both. Thanks!
would it be possible to look at it this weekend? I will be coming through Columbia on Sunday
Do you have the original steering wheel and radio? Sorry if I missed that somewhere.

Trey: Can you possibly schedule a leak down test before auction end? I think the results would help the bidders.
Sorry in the link. It is Rennbow.org
I have seen this car in person and the original paint Maraschino Red Metallic (which is a 5-Bucket on Rennbow.com and described as "rarest of rare, a unicorn color") is ridiculous!!! Not only is it extremely well preserved, but the way the light hits it really shows of the curves on this M470. Funny, when I went to check the color on Rennbow, it was listed as one of the "Colors of the Day" today.
@clubrcr Ok here is what I found out -per the 2nd owner the top material was replaced but all frame, hardware, cables, etc are stock. Top was replaced by Precision Auto Upholstery in Greensboro NC. I spoke to them today and the owner said the fabric came from GAHH and is manufactured by Haartz which makes the fabric for Porsche. He said the fabric is Sonnenland A5. Same exact color/material that came on the car originally. So guess bottom line is fabric wasn't purchased from Porsche, but its same fabric that they use.
Telling you what I learned :) Hope this helps! Thanks
@clubrcr That's a great question! Being I am not 100% sure I just texted the 2nd owner and asked. If he doesn't reply i will look in the receipts stack tonight. I know the top looks great and fits like OEM to me, but I will let you know what I find out. Thanks!
@chuckent No worries! If you know Columbia I am right downtown on the Congaree River on the West Columbia side. Thanks!
Was the replacement top OEM or aftermarket? thanks,
Bid in the amount of $35,000
Im sorry, I see it in the ad now
where in SC are you located?
Hello everyone! I'm Trey, the Owner of this pretty special 1987 Carrera Cabriolet. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I will do my best to be responsive, thorough, and transparent. This car really needs no excuses as it presents today. I decided to not have it professionally detailed for this auction so you could see the car as it sits in my garage with no Armor All or anything like that on it. I started to deep clean or dye the seats, but decided against it because I really love the natural patina the seats have developed over the years. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding if you find this car interesting to you! One thing to note is if the car sells I will be out of town until Friday August 19th so I won’t be able to deliver or help with shipping until I return.
