Previously used as a race car between 2006 and 2012 in PCA Club and NASA series racing, this 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe was acquired by the seller in 2022 and has since undergone a custom backdate restoration with RSR-style bodywork in Olympic Blue. The cabin has been completely redone in Pumpkin leather with GT Classic seats, lightweight RS carpeting, a 917-style shifter, and a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel. It derives power from a Porsche 964 engine which has been rebuilt to 3.8-liter 993 RSR specs including Mahle pistons and cylinders, Carillo rods, and Fabspeed headers. The car also features a rebuilt 5-speed G50 manual gearbox with shortened gear ratios and a limited-slip differential as well as an upgraded suspension and 996 brakes. This no-expense-spared RSR-style backdate is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Tennessee.
This Carrera has been fully restored with backdated bodywork including a long nose steel hood and latch panel along with fiberglass RSR-style bumpers, steel fender flares, a sunroof delete, and a fiberglass ducktail rear spoiler. The exterior is finished in the classic 1970s Porsche 914 color of Olympic Blue and decorated with black Porsche side stripes, flag-style door mirrors, custom drilled door handles, black trim pieces, and new H4 LED headlights. The undercarriage is also coated in a protective bed liner. It rides on a set of 17” Braid BZ Fuchs-style wheels measuring 9” wide in front and 11” wide in the rear, dressed in new Nitto tires sized 245-45 and 315-35 respectively.
The interior has been completely redone with black German RS-style carpeting and GT Classics bucket seats in Pumpkin leather along with matching custom door panels and dashboard inlays. Details include body-colored seat shells, a three-spoke 350mm MOMO Prototipo steering wheel in suede, a wooden 917-style shift knob, an air conditioning & heating system, and a custom sound system with a Porsche Classic radio.
Power comes from an air-cooled Porsche 964 flat-six engine which has been rebuilt to 3.8-liter 993 RSR specs including Mahle pistons and cylinders, 993 sport camshafts, Carillo rods, a Steve Wong performance chip, Fabspeed headers, and a stainless-steel RSR-style “Cookie Cutter” Borla muffler. A claimed output of approximately 330 HP and 300 lb.-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheels by way of a rebuilt 5-speed G50 manual transaxle with shortened gear ratios and a limited-slip differential. Stopping power comes from fixed 4-piston Porsche 996 alloy calipers paired with slotted and cross-drilled rotors, stainless-steel brake lines, and a 23mm master cylinder. The rebuilt Carrara front suspension uses Bilstein Sport HD inserts, 20mm torsion bars, a 22mm through-body adjustable sway bar, Turbo tie rods, and an aluminum crossbar with Netrex A-arm bushings. The newly built rear end features Carrera aluminum trailing arms with Netrex bushings, 30mm torsion bars, a 23mm adjustable sway bar, Bilstein Sport HD shocks, and a Sway-A-Way adjustable spring plate system.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a very nice tastefully done 911 RSR-look backdate with heat & AC. The car was completely disassembled for this project, and everything is new or has been redone. The project’s donor was a previous stock class 911 race car. It competed in 20+ races between 2006 through 2012 in PCA Club Racing and the NASA series. It raced at tracks like VIR, Road Atlanta, Sebring, CMP, Roebling Road, Watkins Glen, and Summit Point racetracks. We took this one off the track and back to the street to build this beautiful, fun, fast 3.8L RSR Backdate. The racing logbooks are included with the sale.”
