We are excited to offer up for auction this 1987 - “73 Carrera RS” Tribute Coupe. The original owner, from the Hamptons, NY, had the car for over 15 years/76k miles before selling it to a dealer in Canada. Over the next several years the car was completely transformed into the stunning Carrera RS you see here.
In 2006, in preparation of the build, the car was completely disassembled. The sunroof was deleted and carbon fiber front fenders were used along with a steel hood. The bumpers and Ducktail are made of lightweight fiberglass. In 2010, the previous owner had a minor fender bender and although the paint was very nice overall, commissioned a full respray (Glasurit paint) to bring the car to a very high-level finish. He also decided to change the black RS detail (wheels, trim, emblems) to the stunning blue you see today.
The current owner/seller has been active with Metro NY PCA for many years. To say that he has taken wonderful care of this Carrera would be an understatement. Close inspection of the photos in the gallery are a testimony of just how well cared for this car has been. This RS was featured at the national air-cooled event, Driven to America, as well as the Old Westbury Concours.
Inside, you will immediately notice the rich Alcantara dash and RS door panels while sitting in the comfortable yet supportive Recaro seats. Other nice enhancements include a WEVO shifter, Momo Prototipo steering wheel, and stainless gauge bezels. The original Blaupunkt Reno radio is still present and works.
Power comes from a 3.2L flat-six engine that was swapped in from an 87 Targa 14 years ago. At the time, the odometer was reset to reflect the correct drivetrain mileage. Prior to his ownership, a dyno test revealed approximately 260hp thanks to the Steve Wong Chip, SSI heat exchangers, and an upgraded exhaust. To further increase performance, Bilstein shocks, 986 Boxster Brake Calipers, and 17” Lindsey racing wheels wearing a set of Dunlop tires we installed. The seller states that this is a super fun, well sorted, and enjoyable Porsche to drive and own.
This example is being sold with a clean title, copy of Carfax report, both keys, as well as a binder of documentation.

Hey Bidders, We are not that far away from meeting the reserved, whatever the final price you will still have an appreciating car that you can proudly exhibit at Driven to America.
Good Afternoon Bidders, I'm here if you have any questions! I want to reiterate how well taken care of that this Replica is. I hope you agree that this color combination does not come along very often in this condition. Bid with extreme confidence, good luck,

Why would anyone ever reveal the reserve price in an auction? It undermines the process of an auction and simply makes it a price for sale. If one knows the reserve why would anyone bid above it? I think it is safe to say the current bids are far short of the reserve, though I have no inside knowledge. They are certainly far short of the car’s value to an owner who doesn’t need to sell.
@Siress knowing the reserve would be nice but doesn't change what the car is worth to you. The auction format allows you to bid up to what you’re comfortable with. Just some advice. Bid with you head not your heart. This does look like a nice one. Good Luck.

@Slim_Chance @Slim_Chance, Good question, I don't know with any certainty how the sunroof was mated to the roof , the original color of the car was Marine Blue. I can tell you that the work was done to the highest standards you would never know that this Porsche ever had a sunroof.
Bid in the amount of $36,000
How was the sunroof deleted? Clip or patch? Original color?
@YrsNthemkn You make a very good point, what attracted me to this Replica was the care that the builder had in using the best parts available and paying attention to fit and finish, thank you for taking the time to give a shout out.
@Banango I really appreciate you're positive comments on my RS Replica! Those that know me understand my addiction to Porsche's and the pleasure I get from taking a good car like this one and making it better, thank you.
Bid in the amount of $35,000
I've seen this car often and have admired it for over four years. It is extremely clean and well sorted. Few examples of the type are in this kind of condition, and even fewer are seen with such frequency by so many Porsche aficionados, this car having been present at something like 60% of all PCA Metro NY events over the past years due to its owner's position in the club. Those interested can bid with confidence: the car has a public history in the community.
can't get over how many backdates and outlaws PCAR has for just kicking off still. its hard to get ahold of a good one that isn't some crude weekend project. this looks super clean and well built. will appreciate from afar...good luck!
