Produced for the North American market from 1986 to 1989, the Mercedes-Benz 560SL was equipped by the most powerful V8 engine offered in the R107 lineup, making it a top-tier choice in the SL-Class range. This 1987 example is finished in Signal Red over a Palomino leather upholstery and comes equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission, a dark brown soft top, a removal body-color hardtop, chrome accents, 15” alloy wheels, automatic climate control, a Clarion CD stereo, and more. Showing just under 47k miles on the odometer, this 560SL is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Canada.

This example is finished in Signal Red and comes equipped with a dark brown soft top and a detachable hardtop in a matching body color. The front showcases a chrome-accented grille adorned with the iconic three-pointed star, framed by rectangular dual headlamps. It has chrome-finished bumpers with overriders, integrated fog lights, a power-operated radio antenna, and rides on 15” Gullideckel alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Defender tires dated 04/12. The seller notes the trunk lid has been refinished, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The interior is appointed with bucket seats upholstered in Palomino leather, complemented by color-coordinated door panels, carpets, and wood accents to the dashboard and center console. It has power windows, power locks, an analog clock, automatic climate control, cruise control, and an upgraded Clarion CD stereo. All gauges and electronics are reported to be in proper working order with no warning lights illuminated.

Power comes from a 5.5-liter M117 V8 engine equipped with Bosch fuel injection, which delivers a factory-rated 227 HP and 287 lb.-ft of torque to rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. It features an independent suspension setup with double wishbones up front and semi-trailing arms at the rear, along with power steering and four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking (ABS). The seller notes that an oil change was completed in preparation for the sale.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Yearly production was low with 14770 produced for 1987. Red was one the rarer color options produced, this example with its low mileage and original paint will surely be a head turner and increase in value over time.”

Thank you. Can we get the video of the soft top and closeup photos of the soft top and hardtop latches please. I also still want to know if you have the original export paperwork from when the car left the US.

Hello all, the speaker box in rear was removed successfully, we had originally thought it was stuck to the rear decklid; however, this was not the case. I have uploaded a photo showing no damage and successful removal.
    Thank you!
Good luck to all the bidders!

Hello Seller. Unfortunately you still haven't answered the important question, which is whether the original shelf (*under* the speaker box) has been cut or drilled or otherwise damaged as part of the stereo install. The photos you've shared suggest that the speaker wiring goes through that panel, but it's not clear.

If the speaker box is screwed to that panel, that's also not specifically clear in your photos.

The issue is that finding another panel with the correct color carpet is not always easy. As it is, those speakers make the space behind the seats largely unusable for storage for anything other than very light/soft items. As such I would want to restore the space to factory original configuration, and I'm trying to understand whether I'm going to have to find factory trimmed parts at extra expense.

I also have a few other questions:
    1. Does the car come with the original tool roll, and is it complete?
    2. How many keys? Does it have the valet key?
    3. Original owners handbook or other documentation?
    4. Obviously the underhood liner is absent, is there any damage to the underhood painted area?
    5. It looks like the car still has R12 refrigerant, is it holding pressure and blowing cold? Are the HVAC controls for the blend valves all working correctly?
    6. Is the power antenna fully intact?
    7. Does the rear defroster on the hardtop operate correctly?
    8. Do you have the storage cart for the hardtop?
    9. What is the date stamp for the tires?
    10. What was the nature of the rear deck damage that required refinishing?
    11. Any service records other than what's noted on the Carfax?
    12. Is there original export documentation *proving* the original US provenance?
    13. Can we get videos -- cold start, driving, soft top operation, closeup views of the hardtop latches?

    Thank you.

Yes please. I'd like to understand if the speakers can be removed and the flat shelf behind the seats is factory equivalent in its configuration.

  • Jaysenc (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@tegwj Hello, I can send a picture if you like, you didn’t ask for one in the first question so I answered best I could

  • tegwj (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Hello seller thank you. But that doesn’t really answer my question. Can we get a photo of the speaker panel removed. I want to see what modifications were done for mounting, wiring, etc.

  • Jaysenc (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@tegwj Hello, the rear speakers are easily removable. Nothing installed that can compromise anything

  • tegwj (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Can you indicate whether any factory parts were cut or modified to put those rear speakers in, and/or if it’s easily reversed? Does the panel lift off easily?

Hello all, we are trying to correct the Carfax. In 04/14/2022 the mileage was 46074 miles and not 28629 as stated on the carfax. The service center made an error when inputting mileage.
    Thank you
