We are pleased to present this 1987 Mercedes-Benz R107 560SL finished in Blue Green Metallic (877) over a tan leather interior. Among the most desirable R107 models offered in the U.S., the top-tier 560SL was produced from 1986 until 1989 and featured a 5.5L V8, power accessories, air conditioning, cruise control, and more. This 1987 example is said to have been owned by one family in California from 1992 up until 2021 before joining a collection on the East Coast. Now with just over 125k miles showing on the odometer, this 560SL is being offered for auction by its seller out of North Carolina.

The exterior comes finished in the rare shade of Blue Green Metallic (877) with a matching removable hardtop. Features include North American specification quad headlamps, front fog lights, chrome bumpers and trim, and 15″ Gullideckel alloy wheels dressed in a set of Kumho TA11 tires from 2021. The soft top was replaced in 2010 and some chips are present throughout the exterior as well as minor fading of the painted hardtop. Additional images can be found in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is upholstered in tan leather with matching carpets contrasted by a black dashboard and burl wood veneers. Equipment includes automatic air conditioning, power accessories, and an upgraded Pioneer head unit. The seller reports some signs of wear depicted on the driver's seat and center armrest

Power comes from a 5.5L M117 V8 which was factory rated at 227 HP and 279 lb-ft of torque. Developed primarily for the American market, the 5.5L V8 was the largest offered during R107 production. The rear wheels are driven by way of a four-speed automatic transmission. The 560SL was factory equipped with power steering, a fully independent suspension, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. Service records are said to be available dating from 1992 to 2020.

This sale will include a clean title.

@besi - a lot more records on this one, right? You are waiting for upload, yes? Can you send photos of the dash cracks and wood wear/cracks asap please? 18 hours left. Thanks.

  • besi (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@JNasty there are some minor dash cracks. The wood has some wear from usage but it is not cracked. More pictures coming, I hope the process to have Pcar upload them to the auction gets faster.

Ahhhh, which car to choose. Kind of a Sophie’s choice dilemma. They both drive great. It really comes down to the color preference. The teal is unique and striking. The ivory with brown is classic and stately. We actually have a few more color choices of 560SL coming down the pike. Something for everyone!

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@besi - any dash cracks at all? Or cracks in wood veneer? If so, close-ups please. Also - unfair question - but, you have two no reserve driver quality 560sls on here - push come to shove, if you were keeping ONE of them, which one and why? Which is in better condition? Thanks.

  • besi (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Henning I’ve asked Pcar about the service log image. I’m not sure why it’s not appearing. I tried to paste it into the comments field but as you can see, that didn’t work?. I’m checking with Pcar. It should appear soon. Anyway, it does not show a conversion from r12 to r134a. Thanks

  • Henning (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@besi thanks for the response. Good to hear about the soft top. A new one + labor will be very expensive. I’m guessing it’s still running on R12 instead of R134a based on the sticker on picture 64.
I do not see the service logs uploaded yet on my end. Are you referring to the carfax?
Timing chain guides are brittle at this point if they haven’t been replaced. Will be absolutely necessary to get this preventative job done or risk catastrophic engine failure down the road. Cost is about $2-5k depending on the shop and state.

  • besi (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Vlad600sel hi. The car is in Matthews North Carolina, 28105. I have asked Pcar to update this. Sorry for the discrepancy.

It is ready for any trip, including cross country

  • Vlad600sel (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Wanted to come see it in New Jersey and than I see car is somewhere else can you change the location please
    Gl
Would the car make the trip back to Nj?

  • besi (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Henning regarding the soft top: It was replaced in 2010. I see no cracks or any damage. The plastic window is clear. Looks almost new.

  • besi (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

The previous owner’s service log and some photos of the 560SL have been uploaded

  • besi (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

    @Afine yes, several 560SL, some nice impact bumper Porsche’s, 914s, and 944s

  • besi (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Henning the original Becker is not included. Yes, the AC blows cold, and the heat is hot. During current ownership, it had new Kumho tires installed 11/24/21. The local independent Mercedes specialist looked it over. They did not mention a concern about timing chain. Sorry I don’t know more than that about the chain. I will upload a copy of the previous owner’s service log.

  • Afine (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Was this car a part of the collection ?

  • Henning (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Nice car. Does it come with the original Becker radio?
Does AC blow cold? Any cracks in the soft top clear plastic, hard to tell from the pictures.
Can you provide more info on maintenance, what has been done to the car recently?
Anything with the timing belt guides (this one is fairly important).

Hi folks. Welcome to the auction! This went live before a couple small corrections were made: The car just came back from getting an oil service and the “brake” warning light has been repaired. All gauges and HVAC work as they should. The car is located in Matthews, NC 28105 (not New Jersey). The owner is a collector with several 560SL’s (and several Porsches). Time to thin the herd a little.

Here’s a chance to get one of these durable classics in a rare color. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
