One of the most iconic sports cars of the 1980s, the Ferrari Testarossa features unmistakable bodywork by Pininfarina and a 4.9-liter Tipo F113 flat-12 engine paired with a gated 5-speed manual transmission. This European-market 1987 Ferrari Testarossa is one of 1,008 examples produced for the model year. It comes finished in traditional red paint over cream Connolly leather upholstery and showcases desirable single-bolt “monodado” magnesium wheels. The car was imported to New York in 1987 and purchased by its first owner in New Jersey, with subsequent registration history in Florida and Virginia. Benefitting from a major engine-out service completed just over 1k miles ago, this Ferrari Testarossa is now being offered for auction out of Connecticut with approximately 33k kilometers or 20k miles showing on the odometer.
The Testarossa’s bodywork was designed by Pininfarina under the direction of Leonardo Fioravanti. Its styling is characterized by distinctive straked side air intakes, pop-up headlamps, louvered taillights, and flying buttress C-pillars flanking a vented engine cover. This example is finished in red and equipped with European-market lighting, dual mirrors, quad exhaust tips, and early 16” magnesium single-bolt wheels with BF Goodrich g-Force Sport tires. The seller states the paint is in excellent condition and the body panels and doos align properly, although some minor paint chips have been touched up on the hood and front bumper. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is appointed cream Connolly leather upholstery, matching carpets, and contrasting brown leather on the dashboard, center console, and lower door panels. Accessories include a black leather-wrapped three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, bucket seats with Cavallino emblem headrests, a gated shifter assembly, power windows and mirrors, air conditioning, and analog Veglia Borletti instrumentation. The seller notes minor cracks on the plastic housing near the odometer and some wrinkling on the dashboard leather near the windshield.
The longitudinally mid-mounted 4.9-liter Tipo F113 flat-12 engine features dry sump lubrication, Bosch fuel injection, Marelli Microplex ignition, and dual overhead camshafts with four valves per cylinder. It delivers up to 385 HP and 354 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The Testarossa features independent unequal-length double wishbone suspension, twin rear shock absorbers, rack-and-pinion steering, and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes. The seller indicates a major engine-out service was completed by Competizione & Sports Cars in Gaithersburg, Maryland, in 2018 with just over 1k miles driven since. The work included, but was not limited to, replacing all belts, valve cover gaskets, water pump seals, and balancing the motor with mercury columns.
This sale will include a toolkit, a wheel lock removal tool, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting our auction on the fantastic low-mileage Monodado example of the Ferrari Testarossa. The car had its full engine out major service completed in 2018.”
