The E24 was BMW’s original 6-Series grand touring car, with the M6 version carrying an S38 inline-six engine derived from the legendary BMW M1 race car. Of the 5,855 examples built in total, only 1,767 were imported to North America. This 1987 example comes finished in Black (086) over Silver Gray leather upholstery and features a 5-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential as standard. This early M6 was initially delivered in California, where it remained until 2013 before relocating to Chicago. Acquired in 2017 by the current seller in Massachusetts, this example is now being offered for auction while showing approximately 82k miles on the odometer.

Based on the E24 6-Series the M6 boasts distinctive enhancements, such as a larger front air dam and rear lip spoiler, contributing to its more aggressive styling. This example is finished in Black contrasted with chrome trim and upgraded dual-tone 17” deep-dish aluminum wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires from 2014. 3M clear paint protection film has been applied to the front air dam, mirrors, and above the headlights. The seller notes the top of the front grilles, roof, and trunk were refinished due to clearcoat sun damage. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with Silver Gray leather upholstery and includes a three-spoke M steering wheel, an M-branded tachometer, air-conditioning, power windows, rear temperature controls, and a power sunroof. Furthermore, an invoice of approximately $4,000 shows the installation of a modern stereo system with Bluetooth connectivity, an amplifier, speakers, and a subwoofer, as well as restoring the dashboard, rear deck, and speaker covers to factory-correct specification. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are confirmed to be working properly.

The E24 M6 is powered by an S38 3.5L 24-valve inline-six engine producing up to 256 HP at 6500 RPM from the factory. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. Compared with the standard 6-series of the time, the M6 received larger brakes and anti-roll bars as part of its BMW Motorsport treatment. Additionally, this M6 has been upgraded with Bilstein dampeners and an enlarged front anti-roll bar.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I have enjoyed this M6 immensely over the past 7 years and put over 6500 miles of trouble-free driving during this time. It's time for me to move on and give someone else a try. This car is very dependable and in excellent condition. Very solid on the highway and enjoyable around town.  The paintwork is amazing.  I get more thumbs up for this car than any other in my collection. A very well-maintained automobile.”

Had an 85 euro M635CSI. More broom. It was black with a gold pinstripe and gold bbs. Drove it for more than 100k miles, in my opinion the 80s BMWs were the best. I. Should have never sold my car. You will not be disappointed with this car. Beautiful example.

@AnyOldIron. Photos of the confirmed AC test and the rear speaker cover have been uploaded. They can be found at the end of the photo gallery. Please let me know if these answer your questions, and if there is anything else you'd like to know about the M6. Thanks.

Yes, "classy" is a great way to describe it. Thanks!

  • Roundel1000 (registered bidder) 7 months, 1 weekago

Aw man, I got to drive one of these on track years ago. What a fun car! It looks so classy, but can be tossed around like a toy. Way sexier than an ///M3 of the era in my mind.

  • Ken-Mac (seller) 7 months, 1 weekago

@Anyoldiron. Yes, the AC works. I recently had it tested and will post that receipt to the gallery. I'll also post a close-up photo of the rear window speaker covers. The dashboard is perfect. Restored to original factory-spec. Back in the '80s, BMW would warranty any cracked dashboards by replacing them with a cheaper, plastic dash. In 1988, all M6s have plastic dashboards, which don't look nearly as nice. The 1988 M6s also have steering wheel airbags with big plastic covers vs. the vintage 3-spoke steering wheel found in the 1987s.

  • AnyOldIron (registered bidder) 7 months, 1 weekago

Does AC blow cold? Any cracks on the dash? Can you take pics through the rear window of the speaker covers and parcel shelf carpeting. Thanks.

  • Ken-Mac (seller) 7 months, 1 weekago

Thanks for the positive feedback! This M6 is in great shape. A clean CarFax and only "lightly touched" from a restoration perspective, so you can really tell this has been well cared for over the years.

That’s a real beauty Ken. Best wishes for a positive auction.
