Internally designated by option code “M491”, the Turbo Look package was offered on the 911 Carrera from 1984 until 1989, equipping the car with the wide fenders, brakes, suspension, wheels, and spoiler of the 930 Turbo. An even rarer version of this package was offered without the rear spoiler, designated as "M470". This 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is finished in Marble Grey over Blue and features the M470 Turbo-Look option as well as optional Sport Seats, a central locking system, an elevated steering wheel hub, and a tonneau cover. The seller’s father-in-law purchased the car from its original owner in 1995 and it recently underwent a major service including a transmission overhaul, a new clutch, fuel lines, injectors, valve cover gaskets, and more. Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this rare M491 Cabriolet is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Nevada.

This Carrera Cabriolet came factory-finished in Marble Grey (673), a seldom-seen nonmetallic color offered on the 911 Carrera, 928, and 959 models between 1985 and 1986. It features a dark blue convertible roof and the optional M70 Turbo Look package which adds 930-derived fender flares and bumpers. Other equipment includes headlamp washers, integrated front fog lights, black stone guard decals, and 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels. The car rides on Yokohama tires showing production date codes from 2019 in the front and 2023 in the rear. The CARFAX report shows rear-end damage in 2015 (not from a vehicle accident) and the seller indicates the car received paintwork under prior ownership. A small chip is also noted on the right front bumper as well as a hole in the convertible top cover when the top is down. Invoices show the taillight covers and right-front turn signal were replaced in 2024. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin features Blue partial leather upholstery including optional Sport Seats and matching carpets. Accessories include an aftermarket three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, a carpet dashboard cover, a central locking system, air conditioning, a locking glovebox, analog VDO instrumentation, and an aftermarket Alpine CD player. The seller indicates the carpeting was replaced in 2016 and blue sheepskin seat covers are included in the sale.

An air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 207 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed 915 manual transaxle. The M491 package includes the suspension and braking system of the 911 Turbo with fixed 4-piston calipers and cross-drilled discs at each corner. A pre-purchase inspection was completed by Reno Rennsport in March 2024 followed by a major service including a transmission overhaul, a resealed intake manifold, a new starter and ring gear, new fuel injectors, valve cover gaskets, stainless-steel brake lines, A/C belts, updated fuel lines, a new left rear axle, crankshaft sensors, and a new clutch kit. Corresponding invoices are provided in the gallery.

This sale will include the original window sticker, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, service records, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for looking at our car. It was my father-in-law’s everyday driver until he passed away last month. It’s always been stored in a garage and wasn’t driven much in the last few years. I’ve had it recently serviced to make this sale as easy and enjoyable as possible. It’s a lot of fun to drive and feels great working through the gears. You will definitely get some looks with the top down, and a few head-bobs when you’re out on the road. In fact, in the last month, I’ve had people follow me, just to talk about the car. That doesn’t happen in the Highlander. Good luck bidding and we look forward to this car finding a happy home.”

  • SHOOKS (registered bidder) 7 months, 3 weeksago

Per phone #114 can you tell me about the complete repaint, do you have a receipt for the work?

  • renojosh (seller) 7 months, 3 weeksago

    @okkeith Not to my knowledge.

  • renojosh (seller) 7 months, 3 weeksago

@okkeith Hi. I sent a short driving video when I had the photos taken, but it was not posted by PCar. To be fair it was me driving away from the photo shoot, which was nothing special. Instead, I would refer you to the comments below from pgeorgeson. He took it for a drive when I first got and drove it like it was meant to be driven.

  • okkeith (registered bidder) 7 months, 3 weeksago

Also, is the car missing the front lip spoiler molding?

Wow, thanks for all the views and saves. I’ve lifted the reserve! I’m really excited for everyone as we head into the final stretch. There are a few details that I wanted to be clear about. The tail light covers have been ordered but not installed, which can be confusing looking at photo 129. You can see the difference between the covers in photos 32 and 34. I can include the uninstalled covers for the winning buyer. Also the turn signal assembly was back ordered and did not make it in time for the auction. So, while the turn signals are visible from the rear, they are not from the front. It’s a small part but I wanted everyone to know. I did find a leather front-end bra for the car while I was cleaning out the garage, so that will be included as well. Good luck and happy bidding.

@SHOOKS Your want is a powerful ally. The Porsche is what gives a driver his power. It’s a force that surrounds us and binds the galaxy together.

I want to thank the PCarMarket community for all the interest. I really appreciate it. Please understand that this car belonged to my father-in-law, who recently passed away. To be clear I am not a Porsche specialist, and did not personally own the car, so I’m not able to answer a lot of questions like an enthusiast or a longtime owner would. I’ll do my best and will make the car available for inspection to any potential buyer. Thanks again.

@Ferry The car has no front issues. Maybe the front spoiler was a special order. It appears it was built as one piece to accommodate the license plate and lights. Pictures 62 and 68 show that the crack is not visible with the dash cover on.

  • renojosh (seller) 7 months, 3 weeksago

@Toys1955 The only window sticker is a two page photo copy of the original that is visible in picture 108. Thanks

  • Ferry (registered bidder) 7 months, 3 weeksago

No. At Carrera 3.2 the front spoiler is always one piece. Except special order. So this might be the result of a front issue. Very strange! I would not assume that the crack is not visible under the cover…

  • Toys1955 (registered bidder) 7 months, 3 weeksago

Hi, you have a picture of the window sticker in pic 108 folded in the manuel pocket. Why don’t you open it and load a picture of it. Would be very useful ……. GLWA

  • renojosh (seller) 7 months, 3 weeksago

@Ferry Seems that is the way it was constructed. Maybe to accommodate the fog lights.

  • renojosh (seller) 7 months, 3 weeksago

@Ferry I’ve added photos of the top of the dash that show a crack. When the dash cover is on this crack is not visible.

Why is the front spoiler of 3 parts? Thanks

  • Ferry (registered bidder) 7 months, 3 weeksago

Please show dashboard without cover. If there are cracks, please take close up pictures. Thanks

  • jjmonte (registered bidder) 7 months, 3 weeksago

Thank you. It’s prob just the picture but it seemed that the gap on the left was a little larger than on the right side of the engine lid.

  • renojosh (seller) 7 months, 3 weeksago

@jjmonte Thanks for the questions. The engine rebuild was done in 2003 and I have attached the paperwork. I do not have the leak down numbers, since that test was not run during the most recent maintenance work. Likewise I do not have any paint meter readings, but the paint looks great as you can see in the pictures. I have attached a picture of the frunk label. In regard to the Fuch wheel numbers, I’m probably not going to get a chance to pull the wheels off before the auction ends. The engine number is 674G05357. I don’t know where I would find that on the engine. In regard to measuring the right and left engine lids seams, I’m not sure exactly what that means. Do you mean the panel gap? Could you clarify so I can try and figure it out and see about sending you the measurements. Thanks

    @WLB1214 Hi,
    1. The A/C is still R12 and needs to be repaired but the fan works. It still has the “natural” A/C with the top down.
    2. I believe the tires were done before the alignment.
    3. The manual top was installed in 2008. I have included a new picture of the receipt stating “conversion top with appearance of a 993 top.”
    4. Not sure on the exhaust but you can take a look at picture 102.
    5. I don’t have a picture of the original steering wheel. I will look for it in the owner’s garage but I believe it was changed prior to my father-in-law owning the car.
    6. I believe the rear damage was from the car being “keyed.” I’ve asked for clarification from my mother-in-law who is 83, but she doesn’t remember any accident involving the car. The car was repainted after this incident.

  • jjmonte (registered bidder) 7 months, 3 weeksago

So with this high mileage, has an engine rebuild been done?
Do you have leak down (not compression) numbers?
    Paint meter readings?
Paint/ options code from frunk labels?
    Engine and Fuch wheel numbers?
In terms of rear end damage can you give a measurement of the right and left engine lid seams. Questionable asymmetry.
    Thank you.

  • WLB1214 (registered bidder) 7 months, 3 weeksago

What a great car! A few questions:
    1. I didn’t see anything in RRS documents addressing the AC. Was it converted and repaired?
    2. Were the front tires replaced before the alignment was done?
    3. Looks like the replacement top is from a 993. When was that installed? Is the top power or manual? If power, does it operate correctly?
    4. Dual exhaust: is it just a Dansk muffler or was the entire exhaust changed? Is the cat there and will it pass CA smog?
    5. Do you have a photo of the original steering wheel?
    6. What exactly was the rear damage? Was that when the entire car was repainted? RRS noted evidence of full repaint on the PPI.
    Thank you.

I wanted to give a plug for this car. In full disclosure, I am a friend of the seller and he asked me for assistance in preparing it for sale. I own several air-cooled Porsches, including an 86 Carrera, so I am familiar with these cars. This is an excellent example of a very rare car. I drove it and it shifts great (as great as a 915 can shift) and pulls strong. The car looks and drives great. It was pampered by the long-term owner (the seller's father-n-law) and the seller spared no expense in having work done by a highly reputable local Porsche specialist shop to prepare it for sale. This would be a fantastic addition to any garage. You can bid with confidence.

  • 550bryan (registered bidder) 7 months, 3 weeksago

Really rare spec, without the tail the best looking rear end on any Porsche ever IMHO. This should do really well, I mean where are you going to find another one?

  • GT3er (registered bidder) 7 months, 3 weeksago

Kudos to the guy who ordered this car. Great spec!
