This 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo was acquired by the current owner in 2019 and subsequently converted into a race car for the PCA SP3 class. It came factory equipped with a limited-slip differential and received transmission upgraded under prior ownership. Under the seller’s care, the car was refinished in Mexico Blue and outfitted with a roll cage along with lightweight body pieces, a MOMO seat, a fire suppression system, a CoolSuit system, a sunroof delete, Bilstein dampers, aftermarket springs, overhauled brakes, and an AiM digital dashboard. The turbocharged 2.5-liter engine was also rebuilt. This 944 was run at the track at four HPDE events since 2021 and was recently serviced in preparation for sale including an oil and filter change, brake fluid flush, new Castrol SRF brake fluid, and the installation of an upgraded Lindsey 3X oil cooler. Accompanied by invoices totaling over $54k invested during the current ownership, this 944 Turbo race car is now being offered for auction out of Florida.

The exterior has been refinished in Mexico Blue (336) single-stage urethane paint and fitted with a lightweight fiberglass bumper and hood featuring Aerocatch hood latches and fixed GTP-style headlamps. Other modifications include a sunroof delete, Lexan rear quarter windows with NACA ducts, front and rear tow hooks, custom windshield securing tabs, and an external cutoff switch. The car rides on black-painted 16” Fuchs wheels dressed in Toyo Proxes R888R tires from 2019. The seller notes an additional set of OEM 16” Phone Dial wheels is also included.

The cabin has been stripped out, refinished in single-stage white urethane paint, and outfitted with a roll cage along with a MOMO Halo race seat, safety harnesses, and a fire suppression system. Other additions include aftermarket pedal covers, a three-spoke leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel, a Simpson safety net, a CoolSuit system, and a custom fiberglass dashboard covered in carbon fiber-look 3M vinyl. The driver is also provided with an AiM MXL2 instrument panel with data-logging capabilities. No odometer is present and the seller notes the car is wired for the Garmin catalyst.

The turbocharged 2,5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine was originally rated at 220 HP and 243 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven via a 5-speed manual transaxle with a factory tranmission cooler and a limited-slip differential. The seller notes the gearbox was overhauled under prior ownership and equipped with a hardened Turbo S 2nd gear and shaft along with a Lindsey Racing semi-rigid transmission mount. The engine was rebuilt in 2019 by TuneRS Motorsports of Coral Springs, Florida including upgraded Lindsey Racing cylinder head components, a Lindsey Racing wastegate, ARP hardware, and silicone vacuum lines and coolant hoses. The braking system has been overhauled and upgraded with custom cooling ducts and stainless-steel lines. The suspension includes aftermarket lowering springs and Bilstein dampers. The wheel bearings and sway bar links have been replaced as well. The seller notes an oil change and brake fluid flush have been completed in preparation for the next owner.

This sale will include extensive maintenance records, an extra set of wheels, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I have owned this car for the last four years and it's been a blast to build the car and enjoy it. The last two years were spent driving in 4 HPDE days at Sebring. The car's latest run at Sebring was a 2’32 without slicks, aero, or upgraded coilovers. 100% confident it can run in the 2'26's with a few more upgrades and be extremely competitive in the PCA Racing SP3 class. Ask any questions and best of luck.”

I trailer it all the time and use race ramps so it's When easier to either drive up or when using a winch. towed even with a flat bed, using race ramps are recommended but not necessary.

    @chrisregalado23

Sorry if this is presented and I missed it, but wondering what the ground clearance is for the car with current setup? A trailer happens to be closing in line with your auction :)

Easily removable. They are only bolted down and not welded. Yes, you can decide to add sliders if you desire. I kept sliders off to save weight.

  • Jeremy (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@chrisregalado23 any sense of how difficult it would be to relocate the fire bottle + cooler to accommodate a passenger seat (first so that someone can improve my driving and second so I can scare my girlfriend and the neighbor's kids to death). Also, am I correct in assuming that making the driver's seat adjustable is simply an issue of adding sliders?

Last day to bid and win on the car! To remind everyone, I'll be in and out of meetings most of the day so I will do my best to reply on a timely manner. Hopefully all the answers can be found on this post! Happy bidding and great way to start @8000rpm

4 track days at 2 hours a day, so 8 hours on the engine. Haven't tracked since upgrade so don't know the Temps, however Lindsay racing does stand by their operating Temps. Oil cooler was for future longevity as was planning on running an Enduro but never got to it.

  • pm2207 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

How many track hours on the engine?

Have you had a chance to track it after installing the big oil cooler? What was the change in oil temps?

  • chrisregalado23 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Hi onlookers and bidders! I'll be available all day to answer questions. Tomorrow I'll be in/out of meetings but will do my best to reply in a timely manner. Best of luck and happy bidding! Who'll be the first to get the ball rolling on this beautiful 944 PCA SP3 race car?

  • chrisregalado23 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

    Fixed seat. I'm 5'11

  • pm2207 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

    Fixed seat or slider?

    What is the drivers height?

  • chrisregalado23 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Hi @pm2207 I have title in my name and in my hand. The cage was built during my ownership, yes. As you can see from the pictures and corresponding invoices.

  • pm2207 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

    Clear title?

    Did you install cage?

  • chrisregalado23 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@uscarrera under my ownership I've only ever done HPDE track days and have not entered it in a competitive manner as of yet. So a fresh log book can be started by the new owner

  • uscarrera (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Does car have any Log Books?

  • chrisregalado23 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Hey @pcar, I've uploaded some videos from Sebring, let's get those live! Ran into some traffic during the laps but easily overtook them in a lower HP car!

  • chrisregalado23 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Hi bidders! Bid often and bid with confidence! I'm going to be out of town on Monday and Tuesday but will do my best to answer any and all questions you may have. Will be uploading a few clips from the most recent track day in Sebring from Nov 2022 shortly!
