Available for auction is this 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo finished in silver over a black partial leather interior. This launch-year 951 features a turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle and comes with a maintenance binder containing service records dating back to the 1980s. Having undergone a major service including timing belt and water pump replacements in October of 2021, this 944 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Louisiana showing approximately 150k miles on the odometer.

This 944 is finished in silver and rides on factory 16” Fuchs wheels dressed in National Ovation tires from 2009. The Turbo model can be distinguished from a standard 944 by its aerodynamically revised nose with integrated fog lights and body-colored diffuser located beneath the rear bumper. Noted imperfections include oxidation on the sunroof, bumpers, and hood as well as small dents and blemishes throughout the body. The seller suspects the driver's side rear quarter panel and bumper to have been previously replaced and notes evidence of a previous red painted finish. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with an accident-free CARFAX report.

The black partial leather interior is fitted with aftermarket cupholders on each door, a Blaupunkt Madison CD player, and recently reupholstered front seats. All gauges and accessories are said to work properly apart from the factory cruise control module and brake pad warning light. An aftermarket cruise control module has been installed and is said to work intermittently.

The turbocharged and intercooled 2.5L inline four-cylinder engine produces up to 220 HP and 243 lb.-ft of torque, sending power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. The 944 Turbo features a reinforced gearbox, external oil coolers, stiffer suspension, and 4-piston brakes borrowed from its contemporary 911. Maintenance records are said to be available dating back to the 1980s with the most recent service in October 2021 including oil and filter changes, timing belt replacement, water pump replacement, balance shaft belt replacement, and front-end seal work. The ECU is also said to have been rebuilt under prior ownership.

This sale will include maintenance records, three keys, a collapsible spare tire with an accompanying air compressor, a car cover, a front bumper bra, and an assortment of spare parts including a rear European bumper section and cat delete pipe. The CARFAX report shows a branded title issued by the state of Indiana in 2000 and 2008, however, the seller contests the mileage shown on the odometer is accurate and has provided a clean Louisiana title.

    A bit more information:

Recently replaced Koni "yellow" Sport shocks and strut inserts along with relatively new engine fuel hoses.

The front seat upholstery is German leather (perforated and plain), not the cheap stuff.

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Fasflo The wheels are original Fuchs 16x7 and 16x8. Previous owner verified part numbers. There is a visible difference in the "depth" front vs rear when looking at the polished portion of the rims. This set of wheels is very valuable as it is an original matched set of one year only (1986), 944 Turbo only wheels.

Can you show the car today? I'm in Mandeville.

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Fasflo the rear tires are wider than the front tires 205 front v 225 - I’m not sure how to check the rims themselves?

  • Fasflo (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

One more question. Are these 7' Fuchs front and rear or 7&8's?

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Fasflo the parts list is an approximate list of extra parts I have in boxes etc that come with the car.

  • Fasflo (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Is your parts list in addition to the car or have some of these parts been installed?

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@david300 the red paint- original rear diffuser was cracked and was replaced with one from a red parts vehicle.

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Fasflo I see clutch and rear seal were replaced in 2009 (receipt). I don't see any mention of torque tube bearings.

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Fasflo yes, files show 1994 the engine mounts were replaced (original receipt)

  • Fasflo (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Great. Also if the clutch and torque tube bearings has had any repairs.

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Fasflo I have a binder showing maintenance history back to the 1980s with timing chain/H20 pump work, etc. I will look for the motor mount work- The previous owner took very good care of it and kept records.

  • Fasflo (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

I see you have maint history. Has the motor mounts been replaced?

  • Fasflo (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

OK Thanks. Do you have any M&R history prior to your ownership?

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Fasflo there’s a PPI report in the gallery that details everything about the car done by Motorworks by Dallas that should answer your questions. If not, please let me know.

  • Fasflo (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Does the steering rack and reservoir hoses have any leaks?
    Thanks.

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Fasflo Handles great I love driving it. I’m in south Louisiana and AC freezes me out on the low setting.

  • Fasflo (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Condition of the steering rack and AC?

@VTBlue I looked and found the paint code LY7Y which is zermatt silver. I have a photo and I’ll get it uploaded shortly.

  • VTBlue (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    @david300 Terrific. Thanks, David.

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@VTBlue the red paint in question appears to be from a replaced lower left fender component that was painted over to match. It’s isolated to that single area. I don’t see any red paint anywhere else on the vehicle.

  • VTBlue (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@david300 , I read the comment about the paint color potentially having been changed from red to silver. Are you able to verify this? I would think that early service records or a quick call to PCNA would be able to resolve the question. Thanks so much and GLWS.

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    @Dom33 thank you

  • Dom33 (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

It sounds very healthy in those driving videos, considering the mileage, and the engine bay looks super clean as well. Good purchase for the next owner!

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@batasrki Great! Let me know if any other questions. Thanks!

  • batasrki (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

    @david300 yes, thanks, I can't hear a rattle anymore.

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@batasrki attached is a short video of running at 5000 rpm’s and another running up to that area. On the other video I was wondering if the rattle was actually the privacy cover flapping in the back. I rolled it up for this video. Please let me know if this is what you were looking for.

Hello, nice looking 951! In the beginning of the test drive video, I think I heard a rattle when the engine spooled up past 3000 rpm. Am I hearing it correctly? Can the seller provide a video going to 5000 rpm or so?
    Thanks!

  • david300 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Hi everyone, welcome to the auction- I brought this 951 recently as I intended to LS swap it. However, I found it is a really nice, classic vehicle that is a lot of fun to drive. I felt it was a shame to do something like that to this car. I am selling it as I want to pursue another project car. Please feel free to ask any questions. Thanks!
