Finished in Black over a matching leather interior, this final-year Porsche 928 S features a rare 5-speed manual transmission paired with its 5.0-liter V8 engine. It was acquired from its second owner, the chairman of a New York-based Lamborghini club, and recently underwent timing belt and water pump replacements in preparation for sale. Showing approximately 125k miles on the odometer, this 928 S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania.
The range-topping “S” model can be distinguished from a standard Porsche 928 by its black polyurethane front and rear spoilers, body-color side moldings, and anodized 16” forged aluminum wheels. This example comes finished in Black with optional colored Porsche crest center caps. It rides on a set of BF Goodrich tires dated from 2013 and the seller states the front bumper and mirrors have been refinished. Some stone chips and signs of road-going wear are present throughout the exterior, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The black leather interior offers factory amenities including an electronic climate-control system, cruise control, power accessories, a digital clock, and a four-speaker sound system. An upgraded Blaupunkt head unit has been installed and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional. Noted imperfections include a crack near the glovebox and between the defroster vents on the passenger side as well as some wear on the driver’s seat bolster.
A naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine delivers up to 288 HP and 302 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle. The 928 S is equipped with larger brakes than the standard 928 and features ABS as standard equipment for the 1986 model year. This example was also produced in the latter half of the model year and thus received the upgraded brakes and suspension of the coming S4 generation. Routine oil changes are said to have been kept up to date and the timing belt was reportedly replaced at least four times in the car’s maintenance history, most recently in October 2022 along with the installation of a new water pump.
This sale will include a toolkit, air compressor, and a clean title.

Getting ready to bid, can you explain the mileage as shown on the car fax?
Has anyone addressed the mileage inconsistencies on the carfax? 300k+ down to 90 then to 40, back up to 100k a couple days later. It’s all over the map. What’s the deal?

@charliek911 car only requires a safety inspection in this county. I’m not aware of previous owner removing any equipment.
Does this car still have the original SMOG equipment installed at the factory? Does PA require SMOG testing?
When was the clutch changed?
Neither me or my wife are or were smokers, and guest were not allowed to smoke in the car! As the car has no cup holders, drinks not allowed either.

@pcarmarket - this is an 86.5 (after VIN 1,000) which makes it more desirable (suspension and brake upgrades from the pending S4). Update listing.
