Now available for auction at no reserve is this 1986 Mercedes-Benz W460 300GD finished in blue over a grey interior with tartan cloth inserts. The first-generation of Mercedes' Geländewagen, the W460 G-Class features robust body-on-frame construction and locking differential that made for one of the most capable 4x4s ever made. The ideal basis for a restoration or custom build, this 1986 example is equipped with an upgraded turbodiesel engine paired with a manual gearbox and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Connecticut.
The W460 is finished in blue and features a rear-mounted spare with a Mercedes-branded cover, black fender flares, body side moldings, and aftermarket front driving lamps. Imperfections are depicted throughout the body including rust spots, bubbles, dents, areas of filler, and chipping paint. Some areas of the floor pans and door jambs have also been rusted-through, detailed images are provided in the gallery. The Mercedes-Benz 5-spoke wheels come dressed in a set of BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tires.
The cabin is trimmed in grey vinyl upholstery with tartan cloth inserts on the seats and door panels. Signs of wear are shown including a crack on the dashboard and damage to the driver-seat cushion. A switch and indicator light has been installed for the front-mounted driving lamps.
Power comes from an upgraded inline 5-cylinder turbodiesel engine sourced from a later model G-Class. All four wheels are driven part-time through a manual transmission with locking differentials at the front and rear. The seller notes this 300GD was purchased as a project with the intent of refurbishment and has successfully completed several long-distance trips over the past two months.
This sale will include a transferrable Vermont registration. This 300GD is just waiting to be restored to its former luster, do not miss your chance at the perfect winter project.
